Ramayana, one of the most ambitious projects in Hindi cinema, is shaping up as a true global spectacle. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, the epic is being mounted on a staggering ₹4,000 crore budget across two parts by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios.
Malhotra emphasized that Ramayana is not being designed solely for Indian audiences but for viewers worldwide. “It should speak to you like any other film,” he said, underscoring his vision of making the story universally relatable beyond religious or cultural boundaries.
The producer boldly compared the film’s scale and cinematic intent to Hollywood benchmarks such as Avatar, Gladiator, and the works of Christopher Nolan. He further stated that the film’s success would be incomplete if it failed to connect with audiences in the West. “If people in the West don’t like it, I consider that a failure. It is meant for the world. If you don’t like it, shame on me; we should have done a better job,” Malhotra remarked.
With this ambitious vision, Ramayana aims not only to retell an iconic Indian epic but also to position itself as a world-class cinematic experience.
