Despite a great debut with the movies ‘Sontham’ and ‘Gemini’ for big banners, Surat girl Namitha really could not cement her place in Tollywood. She then shifted to Tamil and it was the same case here. However, she had no qualms about playing any kinds of characters and soon started appearing in item songs, vamp roles etc.
She also put on a lot of weight and this endeared her to the Tamils who have always adored voluptuous heroines. She became a craze there and continued with those kinds of roles. Acting in sensuous and controversial roles, she also got a ‘Sunny Leone’ kind of image there. In the meantime, she made a brief comeback to Tollywood with the movies ‘Billa’ and ‘Simha’ in which she played second-fiddle to the main heroine.
It is now fourteen years since she made her debut down South and has completed 46 films. She has also shed a lot of weight and said in a recent interview that she would be seen in top roles once again. In an industry where heroines appear for a film or two, Namitha is on the verge of completing 50 films. It is no mean feat.
