The influence of Marvel’s superhero universe is undeniably massive among today’s youth across the globe — even in India. Characters like Iron Man, Thor, Superman, and Batman have become household names. However, Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh’s IT and Education Minister, offers a different perspective, especially when it comes to raising his own son.
In a recent national media interaction, Lokesh spoke not only about the sweeping educational reforms underway in the state but also about his personal approach to parenting. Reflecting on how he and his wife Brahmani are raising their son Devansh, Lokesh emphasized the importance of cultural grounding.
“As parents, we play a critical role in shaping our child’s values and mindset. Instead of leaning into the superhero culture of Iron Man or Superman, we ensure Devansh connects with our own cultural icons like Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama. It’s our way of instilling pride in our Hindu roots and ensuring he understands the greatness of our spiritual heritage,” Lokesh shared.
He noted that this conscious cultural reinforcement is a way to keep Devansh rooted in tradition while navigating a modern world filled with global influences.
Switching to his primary focus — education — Lokesh reiterated his commitment to transforming Andhra Pradesh’s government school system. “I want Andhra Pradesh to lead the country in educational excellence. Our goal is to elevate government schools to the same level, or even beyond, that of private institutions,” he asserted.
Lokesh’s dual focus — cultural grounding at home and academic empowerment for society — reflects a broader vision of shaping not just educated individuals, but also culturally aware citizens.
