Education Minister Nara Lokesh has drawn a striking comparison between former Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, accusing Jagan of constructing a lavish palace on Rushikonda Hill, Visakhapatnam, using public funds.
According to Lokesh, Jagan assumed he would remain in power for 30 years and went on to build an extravagant residence, depriving tourists of a scenic beach view. The construction reportedly includes three grand structures – one for himself, two for his daughters, and a special camp office for his wife. Lokesh alleged that the opulent palace mirrors the luxurious lifestyle of Saddam Hussein, who was infamous for his grand residences.
Highlighting the extravagance, Lokesh revealed that the palace boasts huge halls, large rooms, Italian marble flooring, and luxurious fittings – all built at the taxpayers’ expense. Additionally, he claimed that a massive housing complex was constructed for over 1,000 security personnel, suggesting Jagan’s constant fear for his safety.
The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) reportedly spent ₹500 crore on the Visakhapatnam palace. Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) imposed a ₹200 crore penalty for environmental damage caused by its construction, bringing the total cost to a staggering ₹700 crore.
Lokesh further criticized Jagan, stating that the extravagant palace serves only four members of his family, excluding his mother and sister, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not have such a luxurious residence.
