Naga Vamshi Responds to Criticism on Funky Release

Producer Naga Vamshi held a press meet following the first-day, first-show of Funky, directed by Anudeep, addressing media questions about the mixed reception. Despite visible negative criticism online, Vamshi appeared confident and smiling throughout the interaction.
Responding to comments about the film’s structure, he said, “I have been saying for many weeks that we made a film with single-liners. In spite of that, netizens are commenting that it has no flow, that it looks like bits and pieces with patchy editing. When I myself said what it is much earlier, why do they write as if they made a discovery?” He added, “I didn’t say that I made a Sagara Sangamam.”
Vamshi also acknowledged the risks involved in collaborating with Anudeep, noting, “It’s always a risk making a film with Anudeep. Sometimes it may work and sometimes it may not.” He further clarified that the film was made on a limited budget, stating, “The film has no grammar of cinema. I knew that when I made it. I definitely didn’t presume that I made a film that would be liked by reviewers. Even regular viewers are commenting technically about patchy editing.”
While Vamshi’s candid remarks reflect transparency, many feel a softer, more measured tone might have resonated better with the broader Telugu audience beyond the film media. Observers suggest that, having previously delivered a successful comedy like Anaganaga Oka Raju, Vamshi could have approached this release in a way that balanced honesty with humility.
