Nayanthara’s Missed Chance Led to a Bigger Bollywood Debut

Lady Superstar Nayanthara is currently the highest-paid actress in Kollywood and a top choice for women-centric films. Known for delivering back-to-back blockbusters, she continues to dominate the box office with both solo and paired roles. Currently, Nayanthara is working alongside Megastar Chiranjeevi in a film directed by Anil Ravipudi, slated for a grand release during Sankranti 2026 — a project that has already created massive buzz.

However, her journey wasn’t without missed opportunities. Back in 2013, Nayanthara was offered the female lead role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express. Due to personal struggles and emotional stress at the time, she was considering quitting films altogether and turned down the offer. The role eventually went to Deepika Padukone, and the film went on to collect over ₹400 crores at the box office. Many called it one of the biggest missed opportunities in Nayanthara’s career, leading to widespread criticism.

But fast forward ten years to 2023, Nayanthara finally collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan in Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan, which collected a staggering ₹1000+ crores globally. Interestingly, had she done Chennai Express, analysts believe it might not have had a lasting impact or may have even affected her flourishing Kollywood career at the time. In hindsight, missing Chennai Express turned out to be a blessing, as it led to a more impactful Bollywood debut with Jawan.

Now, industry experts agree — everything worked out in Nayanthara’s favor, and the delayed entry into Hindi cinema helped her make a much stronger and successful impression.
