A special court in Nampally on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha in connection with a defamation case filed by BRS working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR).

The case stems from Surekha’s controversial comments last year, in which she allegedly linked KTR to the divorce of actor Akkineni Naga Chaitanya and actress Samantha. According to court records, Surekha failed to appear before the court despite earlier summons, prompting the issuance of the NBW. The case has now been adjourned to February 5, 2026, and proceedings are expected to intensify given the political sensitivity and prominence of those involved.

In October 2024, KTR filed a criminal defamation case against Surekha, alleging that her remarks were derogatory and constituted misuse of her office. He cited Sections 222 and 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samitha (BNSS), seeking prosecution for defamation.

Around the same time, senior Tollywood actor Nagarjuna also filed a criminal case against Surekha in the Nampally court for making personal remarks against his family, again linking his son’s divorce to KTR. KTR stated, “As there is a possibility that people might think what she has said might be true, I have decided to file a defamation and criminal case against her.”

Interestingly, another politician, Kavitha, accused KTR of drug abuse and exploiting young female actors.

Following the backlash, Surekha retracted her comments against Samantha, stating she had full respect for the actress. However, she clarified that she would stand by her statements against KTR and is prepared to face the legal battle.
