Female filmmaker Neeraja Kona, who made her directorial debut with Telusu Kada starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda, is gearing up for her next project after facing criticism for her first film. While Telusu Kada was billed as a radical love story, it didn’t perform well at the box office, but Neeraja is taking the feedback in stride and preparing for a fresh venture.
During the Gulte directors’ roundtable, Neeraja revealed that her next film will feature Nithiin in the lead. Interestingly, it was Nithiin who had suggested Telusu Kada to Siddhu Jonnalagadda, and Neeraja has long planned to collaborate with him.
Nithiin is known for his success with soft, relatable love stories. Films like Ishq and Gunde Jaari Gallanthainde revived his career, though his more recent projects haven’t fared as well. This new collaboration with Neeraja is seen as an opportunity for him to make a strong comeback.
While a radically different story might be exciting, it could also invite criticism, so a more conventional love story could be a safer choice for both Nithiin and Neeraja. Following the underperformance of Thammudu and Nithiin’s decision to exit Yellamma, careful selection of the script is crucial. An official announcement regarding the Nithiin–Neeraja project is expected soon.
