Akhanda 2 Release Hinges on Court Verdict Amid Financial and Piracy Concerns
The release of Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Boyapati Srinu, remains uncertain, keeping the film industry on edge. With the courts observing holidays over the weekend, the next significant hearing is scheduled for Monday. A favorable decision could pave the way for a release on the 12th, while any delay or unfavorable ruling may complicate the launch.
The film has faced multiple financial hurdles. Discussions held on the 4th and 5th of this month reportedly resolved many issues verbally, though formal agreements are still pending signatures. While director Boyapati Srinu has indicated his willingness to forego a portion of his pending payment, he remains firm on not returning any amounts already disbursed. Reports suggest his total remuneration for Akhanda 2 is around ₹35 crore, with ₹25 crore already paid.
Even with a positive court ruling, approximately ₹20 crore remains to be cleared to settle all dues. Half of this may be arranged through cooperation, but the remainder poses a significant challenge. Financiers are likely to step in only after a favorable verdict; otherwise, the project risks returning to square one.
Another pressing concern is piracy. Leaks of the movie’s content have already circulated, raising the risk of substantial losses if piracy groups exploit the situation. Industry insiders believe that, given the prevailing risks, an expedited release is crucial.
All attention now turns to the court’s decision, which will ultimately determine the fate of Akhanda 2.
