A gunfire broke out in the Jersey City, New Jersey, on Tuesday afternoon. The firefight began outside of Bayview cemetery and it ended at a Kosher market. The shootout killed six people, including a police officer, three common people and two suspects. Two other police officers were injured.
It all began when 39-year-old detective Joseph Seals tried to intercept the two suspects in a homicide. When detective approached the suspects van, the two suspects had opened fire at the detective and killed him. The suspects had left the spot in the rented truck which was stolen. According to reports, the suspects drove about a mile and stopped and invaded a kosher market. Meanwhile, police rushed to answer 911 calls about the shooting at the cemetery. Police have opened an all-out gun battle at the kosher market. In a cinematic way, cops have surrounded the area and helicopters circled overhead.
Dozens of schools were lock-down for hours and students trapped in classrooms even after the school day usually ends. New Jersey Transit suspended its bus service and a light-rail line for a while. Finally after an all-out gun battle, five people in the market were dead – three bystanders and two suspects. The suspects are yet to be identified. The slain police officer Joseph Seals is father of five children. Jersey City Police Department called it as a tough day.Governor Phil Murphy said, “the selfless work of all members of law enforcement who responded to this incident not knowing what they were entering or even if they would make it out.” He extended condolences to the family of the dead officer, Detective Joseph Seals, and “the innocent victims.”
US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident. “Our thoughts & prayers are with the victims & their families during this very difficult & tragic time,” Trump tweeted. “We will continue to monitor the situation as we assist local & state officials on the ground.”
