Rana Daggubati’s portrayal of Bhallaladeva in Baahubali remains one of the most iconic performances in his career. However, few know that the role almost went to another actor — veteran actress Jayasudha’s son, Nihar Kapoor.
In a recent interview, Nihar Kapoor revealed that the makers of Baahubali had approached him for the role of Bhallaladeva when Rana briefly opted out of the project. Nihar mentioned that he even trained for the role for about 3-4 weeks before Rana eventually rejoined the film.
Nihar further shared,
“They later asked if I would be interested in playing the Kaalakeya role instead. They showed me sketches of the character, which involved extensive prosthetics and makeup that would conceal my face.”
He added that his mother, Jayasudha, advised against accepting the role, especially since it was his debut and wouldn’t showcase his real appearance on screen. Reflecting on it, Nihar said,
“We decided not to go ahead with it. But when the film released, the character turned out fantastic. Still, I have no regrets.”
Nihar Kapoor is now gearing up for his big-screen debut in Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu, scheduled for release on July 24.
