It has been nearly a week since Kapu strongman and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham launched his fast-unto-death demanding release of arrested Kapu youth in connection with Tuni violence. But he has not been getting enough coverage even in the local media, let alone national media, except to some extent in Sakshi owned by Opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
This is learnt to have raised a new thought in the Kapu leaders as to why they should not have their own media house. They are of the view that the Kapu community has been neglected by the media, which is largely pro-Chandrababu Naidu and it is trying to project the Kapu agitation as violent and harmful to the state. The role of Kapus in building of the state has been ignored by the media, they felt.
So, they are mulling the idea of having their own media house. In the past, Kapu leader and former union minister Dasari Narayana Rao had launched Udayam, but he could not sustain it for many years.Another Kapu leader Botsa Satyanarayna had taken Zee 24 Ghantalu on lease, but he too threw up his hands a few months later. So, it requires a committed investor from the community to take up the media work and make Kapus powerful. Will Chiranjeevi come forward with any such plan? Let us wait and see.
