Now, T-Neighbours Want Separate State

odisha

Inspired by the Telangana movement, separate state agitations have now been intensified in the Telangana neighboring state of Odisha. 11 districts in the Western Odisha region have been under siege following a dawn to dusk bundh called by the Koshal State Central Co-ordination Committee (KSCCC), the protesting supporters of separate Koshal state movement. The KSCCC has been on a long, relentless battle against the state with their demand for a separate Koshal State comprising of 10 districts in western Odisha based on cultural and linguistic affinity.

As many as 103 organizations supporting the separate Koshal State movement have been talking part in the bundh since this morning, with the participation of BJP and Congress. “Separate Koshal State is a long pending demand and it should have been granted along with Telangana. We will intensify the protests if the state and central governments do not look into our genuine demand,” said Pramod Mishra, Chairman of Koshal Kranti Dal (KKD).

Alleging that the Koshal region has been highly neglected for decades, the Chairman of KKD also said that separate Koshal is the only solution to curb discrimination in employment, education, industrialisation, regional imbalance and development. The Chairman further alleged that the political leaders conspired and merged their lands into Odisha state in 1936 and 1948. “We are demanding a separate state based on the provisions of Article 2 and 3 of Indian constitution,” said Pramod Mishra.
