More than 250 people died in a plane crash near a military airbase in Algeria. Some survivors were rescued from the wreckage of the plane.
Officials said the military plane went down soon after taking off from the air base in Boufarik, 20 miles from the National capital Algiers. The Ilyushin Il-76 plane designed by Russia was headed for Bechar in southwest Algeria before it crashed. The cause of the crash was not known. Investigation launched.
This is the third airplane accident with high number of casualties in the recent years in Algeria. In 2014, two major plane accidents were reported killing more than 300 people in the same country.
