Debates in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly appear to have been reduced to street fights these days with members from both treasury benches and Opposition indulging in the most vulgar verbal attacks throwing decency to winds completely.
Particularly, ministers in the Chandrababu Naidu cabinet had used abusive language against Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, in their aggressive attempt to counter the latter’s allegations against the Chief Minister.
While Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao scolded Jagan saying the latter was making wild allegations without mind and shame (Buddhi ledu, Siggu ledu), another minister K Achen Naidu said Jagan lacked manliness.
“If you are really a man and if you have manliness, prove the allegations made against the government on solar power and Krishnapatnam thermal power plant. Even with regard to land purchases around Amaravati, you had made similar allegations, but when the ministers Pulla Rao and Narayana challenged you to prove the allegations, you ran away like a woman,” he said.
And Jagan had no option but to prove that he was the man of guts.
“When you people surrendered to the Centre during the bifurcation of the erstwhile AP, I was the only man who fought against it and even challenged Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
There were murmurs in the media galleries that things would have more spicy had Roja been in the House. She would have really exposed the manliness of the TDP members, a media wag commented.
