In what can be termed as a big embarrassment for Telugu Desam Party Supremo, Chandrababu Naidu. Telangana Council Chairman Swamy Goud had accepted the merger of TDP in to the ruling TRS party today. This merger proposal was put by three TDP MLCs and the Chairman accepted it in the council.
They say that there is a rule in the constitution that if majority of a party MLAs or MLCs are shifting to some other party, they can claim that their parent party belongs to them and their joining to other party will be deemed as merger but not jumping.
The anti-defection law will not be applicable to them in such case. TDP has five MLCs in Telangana Council. Three of them – Balasani Lakshmi Narayana, Venkateswarulu, Gangadhar Goud put up this merger proposal.
After it was accepted, they are now officially members of Telangana Rashtra Samiti. And that leaves TDP with only two MLCs there – Arikela Narsireddy and Potla. TDP claims that this is an anti-democratic move and the Chairman is dancing to the tunes of the ruling party.
They are now planning to move to high court against this move. It will be interesting to see how the court responds to this!
