OpenAI Launches New ChatGPT Pro Plan with Codex Boost

OpenAI has introduced a new ChatGPT subscription tier aimed at expanding access to its advanced coding capabilities, intensifying competition with rivals like Anthropic’s Claude Code.

The company announced the update via an X post, highlighting improvements to its ChatGPT Plus and Pro plans in response to the growing adoption of its coding tool, Codex. OpenAI also revealed that Codex has reached 3 million weekly users, marking a significant milestone. Alongside this, usage limits have been reset to better support developers handling complex workflows.

The new ChatGPT Pro plan is priced at $100 per month in the US, positioned between the $20 ChatGPT Plus plan and the higher-end $200 Pro tier. While the $200 plan is not prominently listed on OpenAI’s website, reports suggest it still exists with more extensive usage benefits.

The $100 Pro plan offers significantly higher usage limits—up to 5× more access to Codex compared to the Plus plan. It also includes advanced features such as GPT-5.4 Pro reasoning, unlimited GPT-5.3 usage with file uploads, faster image generation, deep research tools, agent mode, memory and context features, and experimental research previews.

In contrast, Plus and Go plans come with limited usage caps, while the higher $200 tier reportedly offers near-unlimited access along with 20× higher limits than Plus. OpenAI claims the top-tier plan is designed for “the most demanding workflows,” including parallel development tasks.

According to Codex lead Thibault Sottiaux, the new Pro plan is positioned as a “sweet spot” for many users who need advanced capabilities without paying for the highest tier.

At the same time, OpenAI has revised the ChatGPT Plus plan, reducing temporary Codex access boosts that were previously available. As a result, Plus users may now experience lower usage limits, potentially encouraging upgrades to the new Pro subscription.
