Small films left to die

Share
September is all set to say good bye soon and October is all set to see high octane entertainers setting silver screen on fire. Starting from this month till next year Sankranthi holidays big buget films, top hero entertainers will come one by one. In the midst of all this one wonder what will be the fate of low budget film makers. A question arises whether small producer should always remain like that without making any headaway. Industry show discrimination while allotting theaters to film. They classify film makers as big and small film makers. Film makers are always in constant worry as when industry will show discrimination as small film makers in allotting theaters.

Due to this many new and aspiring film makers after doing one film and having first hand experience of all this, said good bye never looking back. This time also many films are languishing for release. They include Harmones, Swati I Love You, Chanakyudu, Srai Vasavi Mahathyam, and many more. Unless until some thing is done to retrieve the situation or the industry will always be in the grips of few influential filmmakers who dictate terms to all.

Heroines not given their due

Share
When Vidya Balan started acting in ‘Dirty Picture’ every one wrote her off saying that she is just trying to create an identity of her own by turning erotic. However she stunned all with her performance in the role of Silk Smitha and then repeated the same in her next films like ‘No one killed Jessika’ and ‘Kahaani’. In Kahaani she won the accolades of many as a pregnant woman who comes in search of her husband in the busy streets of Kolkata. Now more recently Priyanka Chopra and Ileana showed the power of heroines in ‘Barfi’ with their superlative performances which some times even surpassed chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor.
Even Kareena Kapoor did everyone proud with her performance in ‘Heroine’.

This brings a question as to why South Indian counter parts do not make heroine oriented films. Do they lack creativity or fear that those films do not appeal to movie lovers. There is misconception among film makers that movie lovers will only see mass masala entertainers and like their heroes romance heroine and bash baddies. They feel that no one watch heroine oriented films. Bollywood came out of that misconception only recently and may be soon Southern industry will also come out of it.

Tollywood earlier made lady oriented films like Arundhati, Anasuya, Vedam and Mangala. Anushka, Charmi amazed all with their performances. Even Priyamani won national award for her acting in her kollywood film Paruthiveeran. So south is no way inferior to Bollywood and it only takes guts and determination to make heroine oriented films.

Opposing bandhs not anti Telangana

Share
People, political parties and groups who are calling for bandhs and rastarokos demanding formation of Telangana are branding anyone who are opposing bandhs as anti telangana and even going to the extent of assaulting them putting their lives in danger. They are not realizing the fact that there are many lives which are dependent on daily wages and whenever bandhs and rasta rokos are called and organized they lose their earnings.

The protesters counter these point saying all those people are prepared to give their lives for the cause of telangana and are willing to face any eventuality. Those people who are making such points eat the delicious dishes of their mother and sleep well in their houses before arriving to conduct hartals and rastarokos. General opinion among public is before making any such statements they should experience the trials and tribulations of daily wage earners.

Many say though their hearts are for telangana they can not survive unless until they get their daily wages. When Jai Prakash Narayan of Loksatta Party tried to raise their issue TRS and Harish Rao became furious and hurled mike at him. Many are heard commenting how can Harish Rao know the situation of poor as he spent most of his time in US.

Crop Holiday turns Power Holiday

Share

Framers in the state of Andhra Pradesh announced ‘Crop Holiday’ refusing to raise crops due to acute power and water supply. However helpless Govt did not take any measures to solve the problems of farmers. Instead state and central governments are going on increasing prices in all sectors breaking the back of common people.

Cong’s powerful leader JC.Diwakar Reddy who hoped to become minister whenever there was cabinet expansion ever since the regime of YSR, seems to have reconciled to the fact that he will never become a minister as he faced many disappointments from Cong High Command he worships a lot. Now he seems to be coming to the conclusion that Cong is near its end and will never return to power in state.

He says just like farmers announcing ‘Crop Holiday’, days are not far when people announce ‘Power Holiday’ for Congress. He was seen discussing in assembly lobby that had the Govt announced ‘Crop Holiday’ to farmers from its own side, demand for release of sagar water to Krishna delta would have come at all. He felt that this would have got even compensation for farmers from Govt. He predicted that ‘Power Holiday’ is in store for Cong Party in 2014 elections.

Who are BCs?

Share
Now a days entire political community is busy wooing BC community. It all started with TDP supremo Chandra Babu Naidu announcing in full public domain that he will give 100 assembly tickets to BC candidates. Entire BC community, their leaders hailed Babu’s decision and started felicitating him. Cong APCC chief Botsa went ahead and announced that his party will give 200 seats to BCs. This turned all BCs to Cong once again. However YSRCP’s Vijayamma announced that instead of giving them seats 100 or more seats should be reserved for BCs passing a resolution. Cong once again struck saying BCs should be given seats according to their census.

This recently led to discussion between MLAs Tummala Nageswara Rao, Gopala Krishna Reddy and law advisors at TDLP office in assembly lobbies. They felt that with BCs given importance, others like Brahmins, vysyas, Kammas, Velamas and Kapus started demanding their share of tickets. When a legal expert said TDP doesn’t give much importance to Brahmins at all, TDP MLAs countered them saying they are giving importance to BCs. Legal experts countered them saying who are more BCs than them saying BCs stand for Brahmin Community.  They went on to demand how much share their party is going to give. TDP countered them saying during their regime, when Cong started discussion on bramins given opportunity, Minister Tammineni Sitram announced proudly that Babu himself is real BC. They efen countered how can they give tickets to them as they will anyway join Cong later.

Will Ileana forgive Tollywood?

Share

Ever since the return of gorgeous Goan beauty Ileana to Tollywood, many commented that she looked like a stick. Many movie lovers, her die hard fans and film makers wrote her off and in her come back films ‘Julaai’ and ‘Devudu Chesina Manushulu’ they included teasers like ‘karuvochina kalaniki brand ambassador’ thus hurting her to the core. Even when Ileana in her media interactions said that her slim look is only for her debut venture ‘Barfi’ in Bollywood, people did not stop commenting on her figure.

She did not take any of the insults from Tollywood heroes who with pride repeated the dialogues penned by film makers or the directors who approved them willingly. She turned enough of it and shifted her base to Mumbai. At the same moment her ‘Barfee’ along with Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra hit the screens and entire Bollywood started singing praises of her. Many top celebrities including Big B lavished praises on her for her performance. North Indian movie lovers is on the verge of making Ilu babe their dream girl and movie analysts and critics predict bright future for her in the industry.

Already film makers are running after her with offers and now many feel Tollywood film makers were taught a fitting lesson by Ileana who made fun of her mocking her to the core. It has to be seen whether they will approach her once again with offers and whether Ilena accepts those offers. But one wonder whether Ileana will ever forgive Tollywood film makers.

Can Tollywood breach Rs 100crs barrier?

Share
Ever since Bollywood breached Rs 100 crs barrier quite successfully on more than one occasion, Southern industry is in deep thoughts as whether they can breach the barrier and show the power of regional language films not only to Bollywood but even to entire world. Kollywood top directors are working on the same and now the question comes whether Tollywood can achieve before anyone does it in South. This is a prestigious issue as Tollywood has highest number of film releases next only to Bollywood.

This year has been quite phenomenal for the industry starting with Businessman, Racha, Gabbar Singh, Eega, Julayi grossed around Rs40 crs-Rs80crs. This raised the hopes in many movie lovers that a day wont be far when tollywood film crosses Rs 100crs mark. Tollywood Jakkana Rajamouli is already eying Rs 100crs mark with his high profile historical film with Rebel Prabhas as hero. In the midst of all this Puri Jagannath, the creator of Business Man is unleashing Gabbar Singh, Pawan Kalyan as ‘Cameraman Gangato Rambabu’. Even Ram Charan is having his Bollywood debut film ‘Zanjeer’ backed with ‘Yevadu’ and ‘Nayak’. Not to forget NTR’s ‘Badshah’ or Mahesh, Venky’s combo ‘Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ nor King Nagarjuna’s ‘Damarukam’.

Rs 100crs many feel may not be that difficult with growing demand for hike in ticket prices and if a film has strong story line now a days Rs 60-Rs70 crs is guaranteed. Now with craze for overseas rights growing it is only a matter of time for Tollywood film to breach the mark.

Directors who disappeared

Share

A keen look at Tollywood film industry and the films that are coming on silver screen one can’t but lament the lack of creative talent in most of the so called directors except for a few. On wonder what happened to tollywood which presented some great directors and those who disappeared leaving their microphones. P.Chandra sekhar Reddy set a new trend during 70s with  family entertainers like NTR’s ‘Badipantulu’, ANR’s Tandava Krishnudu, Krishna’s Padipantalu, Sobhan Babu’s Manavudu Danavudu, Krishnam Raju, Sridhar’s Ramudu Rangadu. Similar is PC.Reddy who even presented lady oriented action films like Chandi Rani, Veera Viharam, Pralaya Garjana, Jamesbond 999, Yamadutalu.

Boyina Subbarao is famous for highlighting relationship between brothers in a beautiful manner. Suresh Productions Savasagallu, Soggadu, Nayudugari Kutumbam, Todikodallu, Mohanbabu’s Pratigna, Saval, Dharma Poratam are some of his commercial hits. Tatineni Rama Rao is known for his family entertainers like NTR’s Vetagadu, Krishna’s Pachchani Kapuram, Sobhan Babu’s Illalu, Balakrishna’s Presidentgari Abbayi.

He even did action films like Iddaru Kiladilu, Chikkadu Dorakadu and Yamadharma Raju. There are many other directors like Bapayya, Vijaya Bapineedu, Dhavala Satyam, Mutyala Subbayya and Tammareddy Bharadwaj. If film makers give them  a chance tollywood’s destiny will be changed.

No experimentation says Manchu Manoj

Share
Manchu Manoj was a shattered man after his Uu Kodathara Ulikki Padathara bombed miserably at the box office. Manoj had called the project as his dream project and hard work of three years had gone in to the project. His last movie Mr Nookayya even after earning him good name could not fetch him commercial success. After receiving severe setbacks with back to back experimentation movies, Manchu Manoj had decided to tread the path of commercial cinema for a while. He himself confirmed this on Twitter, he tweeeted,  “Good evening guys 🙂 confirmed 2 awesome commercial scripts 🙂 wil experiment again after these two 🙂 “

Chandra Babu’s Love letter drama

Share
Chandra Babu who is fast losing  credibility promised to write a letter supporting the formation of Telangana thus clarifying his party TDP’s stand to center. All telangana TDP leaders hailed Babu and even announced a day on which Babu will be posting his love letter on telangana to Center. However the due date came and went and nothing phenomenal happened.

TDP and CBN are now conveniently maintaining silence and are not talking about the letter at all. Chandra Babu started doing some drama flying to Delhi and raising hands with all his old friends. Even his TDP cadre and local leaders shifted focus, participating in hartals, dharnas and bandhs on various issues like price rise, farmers issues, petrol and fuel hikes, FDI investments in retail sector etc.

CBN a wily customer as he always is came out of telangana letter trouble by planning pada yatras, doing dharnas on various issues. However if he thinks he can fool the people of telangana with his flip flops thinking that their memories are short lived then he and his party are committing a grave blunder. Analysts feel people are waiting for the right opportunity to teach the political chameleons a fitting lesson.

Ravi Babu eyes Avunu sequel?

Share
Innovative director Ravi Babu who spellbound all with his films like ‘Anasuya’ and ‘Amaravathi’ said ‘Avunu’ to movie lovers yesterday. Ravi Babu emerged successful thrilling viewers giving them great experience. He managed to keep audience glued to seats even though he did not include tried and tested formula of 6 songs and 4 stunts. This itself is a huge achievement for him in this heroine oriented film.

Ravi Babu managed to extract acting talent of ‘Seematapakaya’ beauty Poorna to the full potential. Ravi Babu who included a surprise element in the film in his role seems to be planning for the sequel for his film. Analysts and those who watched the film gets the feeling the way Ravi Babu ended the film. Even though the heroine survived from the assault of the evil spirt, Ravi Babu bought the film to an abrupt end showing that the spirit is still following her.

These things are quite common in Hollywood films and many feel that the abrupt ending of the story sets the stage for the sequel. It has to be seen whether Ravi Babu comes with the sequel in his very next film or will give a break and come with light entertainer as is his wont giving a break for movie lovers before attacking with Avunu sequel if he has any plans in his mind.

High Command angers Cong T forum

Share

Strange are the ways of Cong high command and its central leadership headed by Sonia Gandhi. While anyone would have given first priority to its own representatives and the aspirations of its party cadre, Cong is prostrating before its rival KCR and his TRS who is out to wipe out its party.

Everyone knows that Cong T representatives are fighting for their own existence and are trying to create their own identity in the midst of TRS onslaught in telangana region. Though they are not snapping their relationships with high command and trying their best to maintain the tempo going to the extent of issuing warnings to their own High Command, they are peeved at the manner in which its high command is keeping them in dark over its negotiations with TRS party and its chief KCR.

They are furious that when they are struggling for their own survival how can their high command and madame Sonia ignore them completely and give undue importance to KCR.They are unable to digest the fact that Vayalar Ravi giving appointment to KCR while denying the same to them. High commands strange behavior is not only angering T representatives but also their counterparts in seemandhra. Though both have divergent views, all state leaders of Cong are in unison that high commands undue importance to KCR is wiping the party in the state.

No audio function for Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu

Share
Music album of Pawan Kalyan’s Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu would be out directly in to the market on September 24th. According to our sources say, The police restrictions and the non availability of venues due to Ganesh Nimmajjanam, Telangana March and International Biodiversity Convention had forced the makers to leave out the idea of public function. Instead they might opt for a small press meet to launch the audio. Being directed by Puri Jagannadh, CGR is one of the most awaited films this year as it marks the coming together of Pawan Kalyan and Puri Jagannadh after a decade. Tamannaah is the heroine while Danayya is the producer. Manisharma is scoring the music.

Do or die for Priyamani today

Share
Today is going to be Priyamani’s big day as her female oriented Charulatha is releasing simultaneously in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam in nearly 1100 screens across south India. On the eve of the release she is reportedly very anxious and super tensed as Charulatha is the most important film at the moment in Priya’s career. If the film clicks she will make it really big as a saleable solo heroine in southern languages. The national award winning actress has dubbed in her own voice in all the four versions, which is a unique feat.
Priyamani plays Siamese twins in the horror thriller directed by Pon Kumaran, and is an adaptation of the Thai horror film Alone. Sundar C Babu has provided music for the film.

Can Rebel get a good opening?

Share

The makers of Prabhas’s Rebel have announced the release date of Rebel. The movie will be releasing on 28th September. However, the fans of Rebel star are not happy with the date. 29th is the Ganesh Nimmajjanam day during which several theaters will remain closed. There will absolutely no movement on Hyderabad roads and it will severely effect the movie collections.
And on 30th September, the Telangana JAC had called for Hyderabad March which is expected to be a very big event. Huge police will be deployed in the eve of violence in the previous Million March. So, the openings in the Nizam region in the first weekend of Rebel release will be depleted due to all this. So, it is a bad release date for Prabhas.
