Kamchatka volcano becomes dangerous after three eruptions
The Shiveluch volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula erupted three times in the past 24 hours, prompting scientists to warn of heightened volcanic danger, local media reported on Friday.
One of the eruptions was particularly intense, sending an ash plume to an altitude of 11 km. Occurring at a new lava dome near the older Karan dome, it generated a pyroclastic flow, a hazardous mix of scorching gases, rocks, and ash, which extended about 11 km down the volcano’s slope, according to the Institute of Volcanology, Xinhua news agency reported.
“Shiveluch’s eruptions are usually preceded by noticeable seismic signals, but recent major eruptions and the formation of a new eruptive centre suggest changes in the volcano’s behavior,” said the Kamchatka branch of the Russian Geophysical Service, warning the eruptions were “not typical” for Shiveluch.
“Before these eruptions, seismic activity had been at background levels, with only minor thermal anomalies and steam-gas activity,” it said. “This new, more volatile pattern of activity means Shiveluch has become more dangerous.”

Centre to unveil drone technology for fisheries sector in Kochi
New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) The Centre’s Department of Fisheries and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad are organizing a workshop on the application and demonstration of drone technology in fisheries and aquaculture at ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kerala’s Kochi on Friday.
The NFDB, along with innovative startups, will deliver a presentation highlighting the transformative potential of drone technology in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
The event will conclude with a live drone demonstration on various Drone applications in fisheries like fish transportation, fish feed dispensing, and life jacket dispensing for rescue operations etc.
The workshop will offer a distinctive platform to highlight innovative technological advancements, focusing on the pivotal role of drone technology in transforming the fisheries sector and maximising its potential. It is expected that more than 700 fishermen and fisherwomen will participate in the event.
The initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) which aims at fostering sustainable, economically viable and inclusive growth in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Drones offer innovative solutions to a variety of challenges in the fisheries sector, with key applications in water sampling, disease detection, monitoring activities, feed management, and fish transportation. Additionally, drones support precision fishing and stock assessment.
The session will be preceded by the distribution of “Cadalmin BSF PRO,” a specially formulated fish feed designed to support sustainable aquaculture practices for fish farmers. In addition, a booklet, titled “EG Sailas Center of Excellence,” will also be launched, highlighting key advancements and contributions to the field.
Furthermore, the session will mark the official launch of the Marine Biological Association of India (MBAI) National Symposium, an event aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among marine science professionals across the nation.
The Department of Fisheries with technical support of DG Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways, is also organising a ‘One-Day Interactive Workshop on 8th November 2024 (9:30 AM) at Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Kochi, to deliberate upon the issues of registration, survey, and certification of Fishing Vessels. The major objective of the workshop is to provide handholding support to the Department of Fisheries of the coastal State/UTs, to function as the ‘Registrar of Fishing Vessels’, and the required expertise to undertake the technical fitness assessment of the fishing vessels which is a prerequisite for the grant of registration or renewal of registration of fishing vessels.

Talking about his role in the cop drama, Arjun had earlier mentioned that returning to the “Singham Again” character feels like a full-circle moment, reconnecting him to the very roots of his career, which began in 2012 with “Ishaqzaade.”
“Every role shapes you, and this one’s reminded me of the fire that started it all. I owe it to the audience for embracing this transformation and joining me on this journey,” added Kapoor.
“Singham Again” also stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, and Jackie Shroff. It is the fifth installment of Shetty’s Cop Universe franchise. The film, inspired by Ramayana, was released on November 1.

New mom Deepika Padukone made her first public appearance with her daughter, Dua, on Friday.
The actress was seen holding her baby girl in her arms as they were photographed at the Mumbai airport. Deepika was joined by her husband, actor Ranveer Singh. The family jetted off to an undisclosed location for their first vacation together.

One viral video shows Ranveer and Deepika walking through the airport, with the actress holding their baby close to her chest. Afghan police destroy 21 drug processing labs, arrest 20 drug smugglers
Kabul, Nov 8 (IANS) Afghan counter-narcotic police have destroyed 21 drug processing labs and arrested 20 suspects for alleged involvement in illicit drug business in eight out of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, the Interior Ministry said in two separate statements.
Units of counter-narcotic police launched separate operations on the outskirts of Firoz Koah city, the capital of western Ghor province, discovering and destroying 21 drug processing labs, the statement added on Thursday.
According to the statement, a large amount of illicit drugs and the equipment used in manufacturing heroin were also confiscated during the counter-narcotic operations.
Meanwhile, police have taken into custody 20 suspects on the charge of involvement in illegal drug trafficking, sales, and purchases in the provinces of Herat, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Samangan, Parwan, Sari Pul, and Farah, the Ministry said in another statement.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to fight illicit drugs, and drug production and trafficking across the country.
