‘Purushothamudu’ Movie Review
Raj Tarun is in the news for a lot of reasons these days. One good reason is that his film ‘Purushothamudu’ has hit the screens. The trailer and other promotional content were decent but it did not create a lot of buzz on the movie. With Ram Bhimana as the director and some noted actors playing key roles, let us see how the movie turned out.
Story:
Rachith Ram (Raj Tarun) gets graduated from America and wants to takeover his dad’s (Murali Sharma) company. But he needs to live as a regular villager without any influence for 100 days according to the condition laid down by his grandfather. The hero (Raj Tarun) enters the village and soon becomes their savior as he gets attached to them. In the meanwhile, Vasu (Ramya Krishna) tries to crash Ram’s plans which leads to his son (Viran) taking over the company. The villagers ultimately find out his secret and what it leads to forms the rest of the story.
Analysis:
There are a few heroes who enter the industry with a lot of promise and Raj Tarun is one of them. After ‘Uyyala Jampala’, many thought that the industry found a natural actor. He followed it up with hits like ‘Cinema Choopistha Mawa’ and Kumar 21F’ which showed that he has a good story selection too. But things did not pan out the way everyone thought it would and he kept scoring one failure after another. But the talent in the actor is still intact and all he needs is one good film which he is unable to find. ‘Purushothamudu’ is his attempt at a commercial entertainer loaded with all the elements. Despite a few entertaining scenes and decent performances from the lead cast, the movie had nothing new to offer.
But the problem starts with the second half where the graph goes down completely. It is filled with hero arriving to solve any kind of crisis in the village and getting big elevations at the end. This goes on loop mode for a long time and the fights too arrive in time as expected. The love track gets completely sidelined in the second half and there is a touch of Mahesh Babu’s ‘Srimanthudu’ and ‘Maharshi’ as well. The biggest complaint is the lack of emotional depth as people fail to connect with the protagonist and even the touching scenes fail to move you. Everything falls in a format and offers nothing new. However, a few mass scenes work out and the entertainment is well-placed in the movie. People who love a decent commercial entertainer despite the lack of freshness can have a look at it.
Performances:
Raj Tarun decided to become a commercial hero in ‘Purushothamudu’. People who got used to seeing him in love stories may find it difficult to see him beating baddies left right and center along with getting heavy elevations. He does his job sincerely and tries to carry the film on his shoulders. Heroine Hassini Sudhir looked beautiful onscreen and has a unique charm. However, she needs to improve her expressions and acting skills.
Senior actress like Ramya Krishnan has been offered a stereotypical role but she pulled it off with a lot of elegance and dignity. Viran was decent in his role as well. Praveen’s mass comedy worked out on a few instances. Prakash Raj did a guest role while Murali Sharma sleepwalked through his role. The rest of the actors are okay.
Technicians:
The movie is made on a very good scale and the producers have spent quite well. The richness and technical quality is visible. The cinematography is colorful and the DOP did complete justice to the film. Songs by Gopi Sundar fail to register and their placement leaves a lot to be desired as well. The background score is loud at times and he did his best to lift the proceedings. The editing is good as the movie is just 120 minutes long.
Writer-director Ram Bhimana seems to have gotten inspired by a couple of films while writing the script of ‘Purushothamudu’. He managed to get good performances but his writing lacks freshness. The routine screenplay and predictability are the biggest spoilsport of this movie. The second half goes through the motions as there is a lack of emotional depth in this film.

Gen X emulates millennials’, Gen Z’s spending on travel, F&B and services
New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) An increasing number of Gen X customers, those in the age group of 41-60 years, are spending more online on travel, food and beverages (F&B) and services categories like millennials’ and Gen Z, according to a report on Friday.
The report by fintech startup Simpl, showed the Gen X customers showed the fastest growth in spending in the first six months of 2024.
While spending on travel grew 72 per cent, F&B and services recorded 60 per cent and 57 per cent growth respectively.
This shift in consumer behaviour is primarily attributed to the growing number of services going online providing ease, convenience, and affordability in addition to customers getting habituated to smartphones via simpler app experiences, said the report.
“The Indian e-commerce industry is witnessing tectonic shifts where customers in the age group of 41-60 years have pipped 18-25 year olds in the growth in online spending,” said Puneet Singh, CXO- Business, Simpl.
“Interestingly, Gen X and Boomers also saw a 52 per cent increase in the frequency of transactions in the first six months of 2024 as against the same period last year. These shifts are driven by greater sets of services available online along with customers’ innate behaviour to seek affordability and convenience online,” he added.
The surge in the adoption of e-commerce services is also leading to a significant increase in the average order value (AOV) across categories.
While the AOV for health and fitness grew by 42 per cent to Rs. 1,022 from Rs 720, travel and marketplace AOV grew by 38 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.
Interestingly, the AOV of Boomers and Gen X is 20 per cent higher than that of Gen Z, in a testament to the growing trust and usability of internet commerce among seniors, the report said.
As heat records tumbled 3 days in row, Guterres calls for global action to save lives
United Nations, July 26 (IANS) As global temperature records tumbled three days in a row this week, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for international action to limit the impact of heat and save lives.
“Billions of people are facing an extreme heat epidemic — wilting under increasingly deadly heatwaves, with temperatures topping 50 degrees Celsius around the world. That’s 122 degrees Fahrenheit — and halfway to boiling,” he said at a news conference here on Thursday.
“This past Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday were the three hottest days on record,” he said, citing Copernicus Climate Change Service data.
“Heat is estimated to kill almost half a million people a year, that’s about 30 times more than tropical cyclones,” he added.
“Extreme heat amplifies inequality, inflames food insecurity, and pushes people further into poverty,” he said.
Guterres called for action in four areas to ameliorate the effects of the heatwaves sweeping the world: Care for the most vulnerable; increased protection for workers; boost the resilience of economies and societies, and action to fight climate change by committing to keep temperature increase to 1.5 degrees.
To protect the most vulnerable, he said, “We must respond by massively increasing access to low-carbon cooling; expanding passive cooling – such as natural solutions and urban design; and cleaning up cooling technologies while boosting their efficiency.”
He referred to a report from the International Labour Organisation on the effect of heat on workers released on Thursday that warned that more than 70 per cent of the global workforce – 2.4 billion people – are now at high risk of extreme heat.
Japan weather agency warns of heatstroke
Tokyo, July 26 (IANS) Japanese weather officials urged people to take measures to prevent heatstroke as scorching heat is expected again across wide areas of the Asian country on Friday.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said high temperatures have continued for several days in the Kanto-Koshin region, forecasting severe heat again in some areas on Friday due to a high-pressure system.
Daytime highs are expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius in Maebashi and Kumagaya and 36 degrees Celsius in Mito, the JMA said, adding the mercury may rise to 35 degrees Celsius in central Tokyo, Yokohama, Utsunomiya and Kofu and to 31 degrees Celsius in Niigata, Xinhua news agency reported.
The weather agency and the environment ministry have issued heatstroke alerts for Ibaraki Prefecture, the Izu Islands and Chiba Prefecture. People are urged to avoid going outside as much as possible.
On Thursday, Kiryu City in Gunma Prefecture recorded a dangerous level of 38.3 degrees Celsius. Many people have been taken to hospital in recent days with apparent symptoms of heatstroke.
Barack and Michelle Obama endorse Kamala Harris for US President
Washington, July 26 (IANS) Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, on Friday, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidential race.
“Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” Barack Obama posted on X along while also sharing the video of the conversation.
During the phone call, the Obamas told Harris that they’ll “do everything” to get her through the upcoming US elections and into the Oval Office.
“I am proud of you. This is going to be historic,” Michelle Obama told Harris.
Expressing her gratitude, Harris said, “Michelle, Barack, this means so much to me. I am looking forward to doing this with the two of you.”
“The words that you have spoken and the friendship that you have given over all these years mean more than I can express. So thank you both; it means so much to me…And we’re gonna have some fun with this, too,” she added.
The Obamas are among the last major Democratic party figures to formally endorse Kamala Harris in her presidential bid after US President Joe Biden dropped out of the race under mounting pressure from those sceptical of his chances.
Harris is believed to have already picked the endorsements from the majority of the Congressional Democrats and Governors.
The Governors backing her included most of those who were expected to throw their hats in the ring, such as Gavin Newsom of California, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan.

కొంత కాలం తర్వాత మళ్లీ శేఖర్ కపూర్ కలిసి ప్రేమ్ సినిమాలోనటించమన్నారు. అప్పుడు ఉన్నత చదువుల కోసం విదేశాలు వెళ్తాను అని చెప్పాను. కానీ మళ్లీ అప్పుడుకూడా నటించాల్సిందేనని పట్టుబట్టారు. దీంతో మళ్లీ ఒప్పుకోక తప్పలేదు. ఈసారి షూటింగ్ కూడా మొదలైంది. కానీ మధ్యలోనే ఆయన సినిమా నుంచి తప్పుకున్నారు. ఆ తర్వాత అదే సినిమా ఐదేళ్ల పాటు చేసారు. కానీ ఈసినిమా ఒప్పుకుని చాలా పెద్ద తప్పుచేసాను అనిపించింది` అని తెలిపింది.
ఆ రకంగా టబు శేఖర్ కపూర్ దర్శకత్వంలో వచ్చిన రెండు అవకాశాలు కోల్పోవల్సివచ్చింది. అంతే కాదు శేఖర్ కపూర్ గనుక అంతగా ఒత్తిడి తీసుకురాకపోయి ఉటే? టబు అనే అందం సినిమాల్లోకి వచ్చేది కాదేమో. ఉన్నత చదువులని విదేశాలకు ఎగిరిపోయేది. కానీ శేఖర్ ఒత్తిడితోసినిమా అనే పునాది ఆమె హృదయంలో బలంగా వేయడంతో ముంబై బాలీవుడ్లో కొనసాగుతుంది. ఈ అమ్మడు తెలుగు ఆడియన్స్ కి ఎంతోసుపరిచితం అన్న సంగతి తెలిసిందే. కానీ టబు చదువుకి మాత్రం అడుగడుగునా శేఖర్ కపూర్ అడ్డు తగిలారు అన్నది వాస్తవం.

ఇప్పటికి పూరి జగన్నాథ్ మార్క్ ని బీట్ చేసే స్థాయిలో ఎవరు సినిమాలు చేయలేకపోయారు. అయితే పూరి జగన్నాథ్ చివరిగా లైగర్ సినిమాతో డిజాస్టర్ అందుకున్నారు. విజయ్ దేవరకొండ హీరోగా పాన్ ఇండియా లెవల్ లో లైగర్ మూవీ చేశారు. సినిమాపై విపరీతమైన హైప్ క్రియేట్ అయ్యింది. డిస్టిబ్యూటర్స్ మూవీ రైట్స్ ని భారీ ధరలకి కొనుగోలు చేశారు. అయితే రిలీజ్ తర్వాత లైగర్ డిజాస్టర్ టాక్ సొంతం చేసుకుంది.
