Nikitha Godishala Murder: Family Says Money Dispute, Not Love Angle

Share

The family of Telugu woman Nikitha Godishala, who was allegedly murdered in the United States, has asserted that her killing was the result of a money dispute and not linked to a romantic relationship, contrary to earlier media reports.

Nikitha Godishala (27) was found stabbed to death in Howard County, Columbia, Maryland, on New Year’s Eve. According to US police, the prime accused, Arjun Sharma, allegedly stabbed Nikitha, reported her as missing, and later fled to India.

Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Nikitha’s father, Anand Godishala, clarified that the accused was not his daughter’s ex-boyfriend but her former roommate. He said Nikitha had been living in Columbia for the past four years and was working as a data analyst.

“My daughter went to the US four years ago. He was only her roommate earlier, along with two others. It is completely wrong to portray him as her ex-boyfriend,” Anand said, as quoted by PTI.

According to the family, the murder stemmed from a financial dispute. Anand Godishala stated that four people were living together in the apartment and that the accused had borrowed a substantial amount of money from Nikitha.

“When my daughter asked him to return the money before he left for India, he killed her and escaped,” he alleged.

Nikitha last spoke to her father on the night of December 31, when she called to wish him on New Year’s Eve. After losing contact, she was reported missing on January 2. Howard County police later confirmed that she was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside the Columbia apartment linked to the accused.

Nikitha’s cousin, Saraswati Godishala, has reportedly lodged a complaint with the Indian Embassy in the US, detailing the financial transactions between Nikitha and the accused in the days leading up to the murder.

According to media reports, Sharma had borrowed USD 4,500 (approximately ₹4.07 lakh) from Nikitha. While he allegedly returned USD 3,500, he later sought an additional USD 1,000, which Nikitha refused to lend.

US authorities have since obtained an arrest warrant against Sharma on charges of first- and second-degree murder, stating that the killing was premeditated. Although some reports claimed that Sharma was arrested in Tamil Nadu, sources later clarified that the detained individual only resembled the suspect and was released after verification.

The accused remains at large, and US authorities are working to trace his whereabouts and pursue his extradition to face trial.

Meanwhile, Nikitha’s family has appealed to both the state and central governments to facilitate the early repatriation of her body and ensure strict punishment for the accused.

Telangana Police, TFCC Join Hands to Crack Down on Film Piracy

Share

Digital piracy continues to be one of the biggest causes of revenue leakage for the film industry. Despite repeated crackdowns and arrests of piracy masterminds operating illicit websites that upload new films within hours of their theatrical release, the menace remains far from eradicated, with several rogue domains still active. Among all Indian film industries, Tollywood has emerged as one of the worst affected by piracy.

In response to recent breakthroughs against organised piracy rackets, the Telangana Police and the Telugu film industry have decided to intensify their coordinated efforts to dismantle these networks by implementing faster and more effective countermeasures to eliminate pirated links in real time.

In a significant move, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) and the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) on Monday signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enabling real-time monitoring, swift takedowns, and coordinated legal action against online copyright violations targeting the Telugu film industry.

The MoU was signed by TGCSB Director Shikha Goel and TFCC President Daggubati Suresh Babu in the presence of Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat the growing threat of digital piracy.

The agreement formalises a structured mechanism for real-time intelligence sharing, rapid escalation of piracy complaints, swift takedowns of infringing content, and coordinated legal action against organised piracy networks. Leveraging advanced technological tools, dedicated teams will work towards the quick identification, blocking, and removal of pirated content through close coordination with intermediaries, internet service providers (ISPs), OTT platforms, social media companies, and app stores.

As part of the initiative, the police department and film industry representatives will hold regular review meetings to assess progress and plan coordinated actions, especially during major film releases.

Key highlights of the MoU include:

Real-time monitoring and intelligence sharing on piracy networks and infringing digital platforms.

Deployment of TFCC anti-piracy agents at the TGCSB Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) for seamless coordination.

Swift legal action on verified complaints supported by digital evidence, with TGCSB acting as the nodal supervisory agency.

Expedited takedown and blocking of pirated content in coordination with ISPs, OTT platforms, social media companies, and app stores.

Use of advanced technology tools such as automated crawlers, analytics, and content identification systems.

This collaborative effort marks a major step towards protecting intellectual property rights and safeguarding the future of the Telugu film industry from the persistent threat of digital piracy.

TDP–YSRCP Credit War Over Bhogapuram Airport Intensifies

Share

A political war of words has erupted over the newly completed Bhogapuram Airport in Vizianagaram district, with both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) staking claim to the project’s credit.

The TDP has asserted that the airport was conceived and initiated during its tenure and maintained that while certain construction activities took place under the YSRCP government, the project reached completion only after the current coalition returned to power.

Countering this claim, the YSRCP has maintained that the bulk of the airport’s construction was completed during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and that the party lost power just before the airport was commissioned.

Adding further momentum to the debate, former YSRCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy took to social media following the successful landing of the first test flight at Bhogapuram. In his post, he expressed happiness over the milestone and recalled that he had repeatedly raised airport-related issues in Parliament and during meetings with Union ministers.

Describing the project as a long-standing aspiration of the people of Visakhapatnam, Vijay Sai Reddy’s remarks were seen as an implicit attempt to stake claim in the ongoing credit battle.

With political tempers running high, it remains to be seen how many more leaders will step forward to assert their role in the completion of the Bhogapuram Airport.

Radhika Apte Slams Glorification of Obsession and Control as Love in Films

Share

Radhika Apte, known for her versatility and fearless choice of roles in Hindi cinema, has spoken candidly about how obsession and control are often glamorised in films and mistaken for love. The actress recently starred in Saali Mohabbat, where she plays a complex character who kills her husband after discovering his infidelity.

While the role demands intense emotions and extreme actions, Apte stressed that such narratives should not be glorified or misinterpreted as expressions of deep or passionate love. Speaking to Hindustan Times, she clarified that the actions of her character stem from prolonged injustice and emotional abuse rather than romantic passion.

“That’s the problem. I don’t think what happens in the film comes from passionate love. It happens because of accumulated injustice and repeated mistreatment. I don’t like glorifying that as some form of intense love for a partner. This is where our perception goes wrong,” Apte said.

She further questioned the cultural tendency to label emotional suffering and sacrifice as love. “In our culture, these acts are often mistaken for love. But when you constantly compromise your happiness to please someone, that isn’t love. I don’t agree with that notion,” she added.

Highlighting how control is frequently portrayed as passion in cinema, Apte remarked, “Whether it’s a husband, the husband’s family, or even parents—expecting someone to obey without regard for their happiness is not love. True love is wanting the other person to be happy. Obedience is not love; it’s power and control. And I’m tired of it being called love or respect.”

Calling for a shift in storytelling, Apte said, “It’s awful. We should stop making films that glorify obsession and control as passion. It’s a big mistake.”

Saali Mohabbat is a drama-thriller set in a small town, revolving around a housewife whose quiet life is shattered by two unexpected deaths. Directed by Tisca Chopra, the film stars Radhika Apte in the lead role, alongside Sauraseni Maitra, Divyendu Sharma, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Anurag Kashyap.
