Biden puts focus on drug prices as he tries to revive domestic agenda
WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden is trying to jump-start progress on his stalled domestic agenda by refocusing attention on one of his most popular proposals, limiting the cost of prescription drugs.
Biden is traveling to Culpeper, Virginia, on Thursday, where White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the president will call attention to the unacceptable cost of medications.
“We need to act to stop the abuse of American families,” she said.
Biden’s trip to Virginia will also be an opportunity for him to start promoting his party’s candidates in November’s midterm elections.
He’s expected to appear alongside Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., who is in danger of losing her seat representing a central Virginia district.
“He is eager to go out there and hit the road for Democrats who are fighting for an agenda for the American people,” Psaki said on Wednesday.
Spanberger is one of several Democrats who have raised alarms about slipping support from voters.
She suggested in a November interview with The New York Times that Biden had overreached with his plans for new government programs that recalled the Depression-era agenda of President Franklin D.Roosevelt.
“Nobody elected him to be FDR; they elected him to be normal and stop the chaos,” she said.
However, prescription drugs remain a politically safe focal point for Biden’s visit.
“I am grateful for the administration’s attention to this issue — but more than that, I look forward to hearing the president’s strategy for how we can sign a transformative prescription drug-focused bill into law,” Spanberger said in a statement when Biden’s trip was announced.
Efforts to lower prescription drug costs have long been popular with voters, but bipartisan consensus has proved elusive.
It’s unclear if there’s a political path forward for Biden’s plans in Congress.
His proposals include capping out-of-pocket medication costs for Medicare recipients at USD 2,000 per year and insulin at USD 35 per month.
In addition, Medicare would be allowed to negotiate prices for a limited number of prescription drugs and drugmakers would be required to pay rebates if they raise costs faster than inflation.
“It’s safe to say that all of us can agree that prescription drugs are outrageously expensive in this country,” Biden said on December 6.
The provisions are part of Biden’s expansive domestic agenda, known as Build Back Better.
However, the legislation is at a standstill because of resistance from moderate Democratic Sens.Joe Manchin, D-W.V., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.
Chiranjeevi happy with Jagan’s response on industry issues
The highly anticipated meeting between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Tollywood representatives has come to an end with a positive note.
Megastar Chiranjeevi, who led some of the tops stars in TFI to the meeting, said that he was very happy with the decision of CM Jagan.
“We feel that ticket prices issue will be completely solved with this meeting,” he said. Chiru, speaking to the media, said the CM is committed to helping the industry, and he intends to support the survival of small budget films.
Chiranjeevi said that a GO is expected to be released by the end of this month. He lauded the efforts of AP Cinematography minister Perni Nani for working towards solutions for the industry related problems and arranging a meeting with the CM.
Megastar also informed Jagan Mohan Reddy wants to develop the film industry in Visakhapatnam on the lines of Hyderabad. He said the talks were held in a cordial atmosphere and the issues would be resolved amicably.

HYDERABAD: TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday, February 10, 2022, penned a poem marking her protest against the “hijab row”.
“Wearing and applying Sindoor is my conscious choice. Wearing Hijab is Muskan’s choice. Let women decide what they are comfortable in embracing and wearing, ” Kavitha tweeted along with her handwritten poem, “Hum Sab Hindustani”.

Superstar Celebrates His 17 Years Anniversary With NSG!
Superstar Mahesh Babu might be busy with his meeting with AP Chief Minister YS Jagan along with his Tollywood co-stars and filmmakers but he took time to greet his better half on their wedding anniversary. Superstar and Namrata Shirodkar are married 17 years ago and they are one of the most perfect couples in Tollywood.
Mahesh took to Twitter a few hours ago and posted a click of his entire family. He wrote, “So easily 17! Happy anniversary NSG!! Many more to us… It’s all about love.” We can see Mahesh with his loving wife Namrata Shirodkar Ghattamaneni together while their kids Gautham and Sithara are on either side. As we know, Mahesh and Namrata met during the shoot of ‘Vamsi’ and fell in love. They dated for a few years before getting married in 2005. Namrata decided to quit acting and look after the family along with Mahesh’s professional life.

3 BJP MLAs under house arrest following clash with TRS workers over PM’s Telangana comment
HYDERABAD: BJP MLAs Eatala Rajender, Raghunandan Rao and Raja Singh have been placed under house arrest by police since Wednesday night, February 9, 2022, preventing them from meeting BJP workers injured in the clashes with TRS workers in Jangaon earlier that day.
BJP State General Secretary G Premender Reddy has expressed anguish over the way party’s leaders were being prevented from exercising their constitutional rights.
On Wednesday, TRS workers tried to burn an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Jangaon crossroads in protest against his statement in the parliament regarding the way the bifurcation of erstwhile AP was done.
Clashes between BJP and TRS workers erupted when BJP workers tried to prevent them from doing so.
“The police have filed cases on BJP workers who were injured in the clashes instead of acting against the attackers. They played mute spectators while BJP workers were being attacked,” said E Rajender.
Premender Reddy and BJP’s legal cell members are visiting Osmania General Hospital to visit the injured party workers at 11 am.

What’s Behind Pawan’s Temple Tour Plan?
Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is planning a long tour from one temple to another. He plans to start the tour covering 32 temples, all belongs to Lord Narasimha, in the two Telugu states.
According to the plan, he would tour two temples in Telangana and 30 temples in Andhra Pradesh. The tour would have several intervals that suits his movie schedules as he has plans to do more films before the next round of elections in 2024.
This temple tour is not because he is aligned right now with the BJP, but he wants to target AP chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in every schedule of the tour from one temple to another.
He plans to speak about the Christian connection of Jagan Mohan Reddy and thus consolidate Hindu votes against the YSR Congress. As understood from his previous political activities, this is not from his own agenda. Neither is it from his ally, the BJP’s agenda.
This comes from the TDP which has been speaking more than the BJP about the Christian connection of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Chandrababu Naidu wants one activity or the other from his supporters that speaks against Jagan Mohan Reddy. He leaves no opportunity to create and promote such activities for his political mileage.

Tollywood superstar Ram Charan is currently in Mumbai. Well, he has been in Mumbai for the past one week or so and this is an unusually long Mumbai trip. Now, there are several speculations pertaining to Charan’s lengthy Mumbai tour, and here is one such rumor that is going viral on social media. Apparently, Charan is orchestrating a business expansion prospect in Mumbai. He is said to be working on a prospective project related to his airlines’ company.
It is known that Charan came on board for TruJet Airlines back in 2013 and he has been one of the operating partners of the company ever since. Now, Ram Charan intends to further promote his airlines business and he is even contemplating a business expansion project.
