Ghaati Movie Review: A Missed Comeback for Krish

Share

Krish Jagarlamudi, once admired for meaningful cinema like Kanche and Vedam, has been waiting for a strong comeback since Gautamiputra Satakarni. He joined hands with Anushka Shetty and Tamil actor Vikram Prabhu for Ghaati, set in the Eastern Ghats and revolving around cannabis smuggling. The premise sounded promising, but the film turns out to be a major disappointment.

Story

Sheelavathi (Anushka Shetty), a bus conductor, and Desi Raju (Vikram Prabhu), a lab technician, are planning to marry after saving enough money. Trouble begins when two cannabis smugglers discover that Desi Raju is secretly producing a new liquid cannabis strain named “Sheelavathi.” Why would a simple man risk everything to enter the drug trade, and how are the Ghaatis tied to this dark business? That’s what the film tries to explore.

Performances

  • Anushka Shetty looks uninterested and delivers one of her weakest performances in recent times.
  • Vikram Prabhu puts in effort but struggles due to poor writing and odd-sounding Telugu dubbing.
  • Chaitanya Rao is the only actor who makes some impression as Kundala Naidu.
  • Jagapathi Babu and Jisshu Sengupta are wasted in poorly written roles.

Overall, the cast seems let down by flat characters and uninspiring direction.

Technical Side

The film’s only saving grace is Manojh Reddy’s cinematography, which beautifully captures the Eastern Ghats. But that’s where the positives end.

  • Music & BGM by Nagavelli Vidya Sagar drag the film down with outdated tunes.
  • Editing is messy, especially in the second half.
  • VFX is substandard, hurting the film’s visual appeal.

What Works

  • Eastern Ghats setting
  • Cultural touch of the Ghaatis

What Doesn’t

  • Predictable story
  • Weak screenplay
  • Poor dialogues
  • Forgettable music
  • Flat performances
  • Overdone action

Analysis

Krish is known for deep writing and powerful dialogues, but here he delivers clichéd and even laughable lines. The film begins decently with the Ghaati backdrop but quickly slips into a routine smuggling drama, heavily inspired by Pushpa but without the grip. The transformation of the hero lacks conviction, and the second half is filled with random action blocks that drag endlessly.

Despite its strong setting, Ghaati fails to rise above weak writing and half-hearted execution. Instead of a comeback, this film further dents Krish’s reputation.

Verdict

Ghaati is a wasted opportunity. Except for its visuals, nothing works — not the story, music, performances, or direction.

Bottomline: A dull and outdated film that is best skipped.

Andhra Pradesh Local Body Elections Set for January 2026

Share

The much-anticipated update on Andhra Pradesh’s local body elections is finally here. The State Election Commission has formally directed the government to conduct the polls by January 2026.

These elections will be held nearly a year and a half after the NDA alliance assumed power in the state, making them a crucial indicator of public sentiment towards the government’s performance.

The recent emphatic win in the Pulivendula ZPTC election already highlighted the alliance’s strong voter base. In contrast, the previous YSRCP government had faced serious allegations of misusing police machinery and administrative power to secure sweeping victories in local polls. With the current government expected to conduct elections more transparently, the results will likely serve as a true measure of ground-level support.

Another key factor will be the working relationship between TDP, JSP, and BJP cadres at the grassroots. The local body polls are expected to act as a unifying exercise for the alliance, strengthening their coordination ahead of future electoral battles.

Adding to this, the government has recently rolled out popular welfare measures such as the free RTC travel scheme for women and successfully implemented several of the “Super Six” promises. With these impactful initiatives fresh in the public’s mind, the ruling alliance appears well-positioned to register a sweeping victory in the upcoming polls.

Kalvakuntla Kavitha at a Political Crossroads

Share

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, once a prominent face of BRS and the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister KCR, now finds herself in an uncertain political space. From being a key player in state politics, she has slipped into the position of a leader without party backing, searching for a platform to revive her career.

Speculation initially pointed towards Congress or BJP as her next possible move. However, given the ongoing liquor scam allegations against her, both national parties appear reluctant to onboard her. For them, aligning with Kavitha not only means taking on her legal baggage but also facing criticism of attempting to exploit rifts within the KCR family—an image neither Congress nor BJP wants at this juncture.

Interestingly, KA Paul, president of the Praja Shanti Party, has openly invited Kavitha to join his BC-oriented party. He even urged her to stand beside him and rebuild her career under his leadership. While this offer exists, it appears unlikely that Kavitha would consider it a serious option, given her stature and political aspirations.

As things stand, Kavitha is at a critical juncture. With major parties unwilling to extend support and time running out, her next step will decide whether she can reclaim her political relevance—or fade into the background.

Little Hearts Review: Fun Moments, Weak Storyline

Share

After creating a sensation with 90s Biopic on ETV Win, comedian Mouli Tanuj and filmmaker Aditya Haasan return with a full-length feature. This time, Mouli steps into the hero’s shoes, while Aditya dons the producer’s hat. Their latest film, Little Hearts, has hit the screens today. Let’s check whether it lives up to expectations.

Story:
Set in Hyderabad in 2015, the story revolves around Nalli Akhil (Mouli Tanuj), a boy weak in studies and uninterested in Engineering, much to the frustration of his ambitious father. With a low CET rank, Akhil ends up in a long-term coaching institute, where he meets Kathyayani (Shivani Nagaram), a medical aspirant. Love blossoms between the two, leading to humorous encounters between their families. The narrative then fast-forwards over a decade, until 2025, highlighting how their relationship withstands time and circumstances.

Performances:

  • Mouli Tanuj brings his signature deadpan style, quirky expressions, and sharp comic timing, making the character both funny and relatable.
  • Shivani Nagaram charms as the girl-next-door and fits the role perfectly.
  • Rajeev Kanakala delivers one of the film’s strongest performances, balancing humor with emotional depth.
  • Supporting actors Satya Krishnan, Anitha Chowdary, and Kanchi add flavor with their natural performances and situational comedy.

Technical Aspects:
The film is modest in scale but adequate in presentation. Dialogues often click with youthful audiences, though a few jokes misfire. The screenplay moves briskly but lacks the heft needed to elevate the film beyond its comedy layer.

Strengths:

  • Humorous one-liners and witty dialogues
  • Relatable college-and-coaching setup
  • Mouli Tanuj’s comedic energy
  • Youth-friendly treatment

Weaknesses:

  • Very thin storyline with almost no twists
  • Repetitive humor in parts
  • Limited emotional connect

Analysis:
Recent comedies like Jathi Ratnalu, DJ Tillu, and MAD proved that humor-driven films can succeed if supported by a solid story or quirky plot twists. Little Hearts, however, focuses almost entirely on gags, with the wafer-thin love story serving as a backdrop.

The age-gap angle (the heroine being older than the hero) is the only attempt at a twist, but it hardly adds depth. Still, certain episodes—like the viral video scene involving the heroine’s father—land well and leave the audience in splits.

For youngsters hooked on YouTube sketches, meme humor, and OTT-style comedy, the film works as lighthearted entertainment. For older or family audiences, it may feel like an overstretched skit rather than a complete cinematic ride.

Verdict:
Little Hearts entertains in bits and pieces, relying on humor more than story. Fun for teens and college-goers, but not for those expecting depth.

Bottom Line: Youthful comedy with laughs, but little substance.

Teja Sajja on Mythology in Films: “We Are Teaching Dharma Through Cinema”

Share

Mythology-based films are currently enjoying a strong run at the box office, provided they are executed well. While some projects like Adipurush have failed despite the hype, others have struck a chord with audiences. Young actor Teja Sajja is emerging as a notable presence in this trend. His film HanuMan was a commercial success, and his upcoming release Mirai also incorporates mythology, albeit in a smaller way. This led Hindi media to question him on why his films often have religious undertones—a query that genuinely surprised Teja.

During the promotional event for Mirai in Mumbai yesterday, Teja shared his insights about the film, his approach to selecting projects, and his broader career plans. When asked specifically about the “religious flavour” in his films, Teja responded cleverly, questioning why actors who repeatedly do love stories are never asked similar questions. He added, “In fact, I think you should feel happy that we are trying to tell Dharma through our films.”

Teja elaborated that HanuMan is primarily a superhero story with multiple dimensions, including familial bonds and moral lessons, in addition to its religious elements. Regarding Mirai, he clarified that the trailer only shows a brief glimpse of Lord Sriram, while the film itself is rich with thrill, fantasy, and other exciting elements.

Concluding his thoughts, Teja emphasized that he aims to blend moral values and Dharma into his films, making them entertaining yet meaningful—a stance that earned him widespread appreciation.

For Jr NTR fans, this is a moment of pride, highlighting the actor’s immense popularity. The nationwide buzz generated by his recent film War 2, released on August 14, significantly contributed to his social media traction, even though the movie underperformed at the box office.

The remainder of the top 10 featured Shubman Gill (5th), Rahul Gandhi (6th), Virat Kohli (7th), Mahesh Babu (8th), M. S. Dhoni (9th), and Rajinikanth (10th). The inclusion of Jr NTR and Mahesh Babu in the top 10 was celebrated as a proud achievement for the Telugu film industry, particularly showcasing the unwavering support of NTR’s fan base.

A teenager has been charged following a stabbing at a western Sydney train station that left a 16-year-old boy critically injured.New South Wales Police said emergency services were called to Merrylands railway station, around 20 km west of central Sydney, at approximately 5:15 pm on Monday after reports of a stabbing.

The victim, a 16-year-old male, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital in a critical condition. Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that he remains in hospital and is continuing to recover.

Preliminary investigations suggest the victim had a brief interaction with two unknown males before being attacked. Police said a 17-year-old male attended a police station on Tuesday afternoon, where he was arrested and charged with seven offences. These include wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, being armed with intent to commit a serious offence, and carrying a knife in a public place.

The teenager was refused bail and is due to face a children’s court on Wednesday. Detectives confirmed inquiries into the incident are continuing.

The Merrylands stabbing comes amid growing concerns over knife-related violence in western Sydney. Just days earlier, police responded to another serious incident at a bus station in Mount Druitt, about 38 km west of the city centre.

Shortly after 10:10 pm on August 27, officers found two 19-year-old men suffering from stab wounds. One man sustained fatal chest injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics’ efforts. The second victim, who suffered stab wounds to his arm, was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and the homicide squad is assisting with ongoing investigations.

New Mahesh Babu SSMB29 Leak Surfaces from Kenya Set

Share

Another outdoor schedule and yet another leak has created headaches for the team of Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s highly anticipated global project, tentatively titled SSMB29. Despite stringent security measures on set, a new working still of Mahesh Babu from the Kenya schedule has surfaced online.

The leaked image shows Mahesh in a rugged, action-ready avatar, wearing an olive green full-sleeved t-shirt and jeans. Judging by the backdrop, the crew appears to be filming in a vast, scenic meadow in Kenya, adding a visual treat for fans.

This isn’t the first leak for SSMB29. During the film’s earlier outdoor schedule in Koraput, Odisha, photos and videos featuring Mahesh and the antagonist Prithviraj Sukumaran were also leaked. Following that incident, director Rajamouli had strengthened on-set security to prevent further breaches.

Leaked images like these risk spoiling the hype and suspense surrounding the film. They can also fuel wild fan theories about the plot and characters. Normally, under Jakkanna’s strict supervision, such leaks are rare. However, for this pan-international, Rs 1,200 crore jungle adventure, the team will need to take extra precautions to preserve the intrigue and excitement until the film’s release.

Inban Udhayanidhi Takes Charge of Red Giant Movies

Share

It’s common to see children following in their parents’ footsteps—doctors becoming doctors, actors becoming actors. However, it’s rare to see an actor’s son stepping into the industry not just as an actor, but also as a producer before his on-screen debut. That is exactly what is happening with Inban Udhayanidhi, the son of prominent actor-turned-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Inban has recently been making headlines in Tamil media for taking charge of his father’s production banner, Red Giant Movies, established in 2008. With Udhayanidhi Stalin fully occupied with his political career, Inban has assumed responsibilities for the banner and is also being positioned to take on acting roles in the near future.

Official announcements have confirmed that Red Giant Movies will release the theatrical rights of Dhanush-starrer Idli Kadai, under Inban’s supervision.

Red Giant Movies has been a significant player in Tamil cinema since its inception. The banner’s first film was Kuruthi, directed by Dharani, starring Vijay and Trisha. Over the years, it has produced several notable films including Aadhavan (2009), Manmadhan Ambu (2010), Aelayum Arivu (2011), Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012), Neerparavai (2012), Vanakkam Chennai (2013), Manithan (2016), and Mamannan (2023). In 2025 alone, Red Giant Movies released two films: Kadalikka Neramillai, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, and Kamal Haasan–Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life.

Idli Kadai, scheduled for theatrical release on October 1, stars Arun Vijay, Nithya Menen, Rajkiran, and Samuthirakani, with music by GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography by Kiran Kaushik.

While Red Giant Movies has had its share of blockbusters, it has also faced several flops, creating pressure on Inban to steer the banner in the right direction. With the responsibility now on his shoulders, Inban is tasked with reviving the banner’s success while simultaneously preparing for his own acting career.
