‘Big Directors Don’t Take Me In Their Films’
Mumbai: Akshay Kumar has revealed the secret behind why he only works with new directors.”I work with new directors because big directors don’t take me (in their films). That is the truth,a claimed the Bollywood superstar, while interacting with the media at the trailer launch of his upcoming film “Good Newwz”.
Akshay’s comment came in the wake of an observation by Karan Johar, one of the producers of the film, that he was a star who had worked with many debutant directors.
The actor further explained: “When big people don’t take you (in their films), you have to start your own journey. If you don’t get a job in a big publication, you will go through a smaller one. From there you jump. You cannot just sit at home and wonder why people don’t take me (in their films) despite me being so capable.”
Asked if there was a time when big directors were only interested in working with the Khans, Akshay replied: “They (big directors) went to the people who deserved. You see, it’s not that only the Khans were around. There were the Kapoors and the others. I presume I didn’t deserve it, so I earned it my way.”
The actor maintained that even though big filmmakers produce his films, they don’t direct him. “I still don’t have big directors (directing me). They are producing films with me, but they are not directing. Mr Karan Johar is there, you should ask him. You should ask Adi Chopra,” he said.
Sharing his experience of working with newcomer directors, the superstar further said: “Raj (Mehta, ‘Good Newwz’ director) is my 21st new director. I also feel their greed to do good work is far more than many old directors. For them, it is a do or die situation, because (they think) if the film doesn’t work, then they are finished.”
However, the actor mentioned, that although he works with new directors, he doesn’t try to guide them as he trusts their capability.
“My input is nothing. I am not any kind of guiding force. I have not opened a school. They come, they do their own work. They do a good job, that’s why they are with me. Actually, more than anything else I trust the script and the screenplay. With that 60 per cent of your job is done. The rest is done by the director,” he said.
“Good Newwz” is slated to hit theatres on December 27. The comedy also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani.
Who stalled censor certificate for KRKR?
The much-talked about political satire – Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu – made by maverick film maker Ram Gopal Varma, which was supposed to be released on Friday last, was denied censor certificate by Central Board of Film Certification in Hyderabad.
Apparently, the censor board authorities raised a serious objection to the controversial content in the film, as it has several characters which resemble Andhra politicians including chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, evangelist-politician KA Paul and other senior political leaders.
It is learnt the censor board members felt the film would trigger political unrest in the state, which is already volatile with the allegations of attacks and counter-attacks between the ruling and the opposition parties and caste conflicts.
They did not relent even after RGV proposed to change the title of the film to “Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu.” Since the film already generated a lot of curiosity among the audiences, RGV decided to go for an appeal before the review committee.
Sources, however, said there was more to the denial of censor certificate by officials than what meets the eye.
Apparently, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Andhra Pradesh belonging to a particular community targeted in the film had brought a lot of pressure on the censor board authorities and managed to see that it was denied the certificate.
It is a different matter that the review committee might finally give the certificate, but it would definitely order several cuts in the film, sources said.
Congress got Rs 170 crore from Hyderabad firm: I-T
New Delhi: The income-tax department has issued a notice to the Congress seeking an explanation over the party allegedly receiving funds to the tune of Rs 170 crore from a Hyderabad-based firm as part of its tax evasion probe in an Rs 3,300-crore hawala racket case, officials said on Tuesday.
They said the notice was issued to the party to take the probe forward in the case that came to light last month after multiple raids, with links to “leading corporate houses” in the infrastructure sector, were conducted in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
According to the officials, the funds to the Congress were sent by Hyderabad-based infrastructure company.
Some functionaries of the Congress and an Andhra Pradesh-based political party are also under the scanner of the taxman in this case, they said.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which makes policy for the income-tax (I-T) department, had said in a statement in November that the raids to unearth the large tax evasion nexus were conducted in the first week of the month.
The raids were conducted on 42 premises in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ero-de, Pune, Agra and Goa on a group of people issuing bogus bills and conducting hawala transactions, the statement had said.
“The search action was successful in unearthing incriminating evidences and establishing the nexus between big corporates, hawala operators and identification of entire chain of delivery, as well as siphoning of funds by way of bogus contracts to the tune of `3,300 crore,” the CBDT had said.
The raids resulted in busting of a “major racket of cash generation” by leading corporate houses in the infrastructure sector through bogus contracts and bills, it added.
Hawala denotes illegal transaction of funds by skirting the legal banking channels.
According to the CBDT, funds meant for public infrastructure projects were siphoned off through entry operators, lobbyists and hawala dealers in this case.
The companies involved in siphoning of funds were said to be mostly located in the National Capital Region and Mumbai.
“The projects involved in bogus billing are major infrastructure and EWS (economically weaker section) projects located in south India.
“Evidence of cash payment of more than `150 crore to a prominent person in Andhra Pradesh has also been unearthed during the search,” the CBDT had said.
“Unexplained cash of `4.19 crore and jewellery worth in excess of `3.2 crore was also seized during the search operation,” it had said.
Does Pawan Kalyan Understand Telugu Properly?
Absurd thinking of Pawan Kalyan has reached further heights. Consumed by hate towards Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he seems to have forgotten the basic Telugu language as well.
Chief Minister Jagan recently said that ‘not going back on the promises made’ is his caste and humanity is his religion.
He implied that he doesn’t belong to any particular caste or creed. Honoring every word that uttered is considered as a caste then I am that person is what he meant.
Pawan Kalyan twisted those words to his convenience.
“Does that mean other castes go back on their promises and words?” Pawan Kalyan questioned. He doesn’t know the Telugu language properly. Or he can’t grasp the meaning of the words.
Ever since he saw rout in the recent elections, the actor turned politician has developed loathing towards Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. This is why he declares that he will not accept Jagan Mohan Reddy as Chief Minister of Andhra Prades.
What a stupid statement! Who cares whether he accepts Jagan as a CM or not? It is the mandate of the public. He was elected by voters.
Pawan Kalyan is neither MLA, nor does his party have enough numbers to declare opposition party in the state assembly. His grandstanding is silly. Behaving as if he were some superior constitutional authority is exposing him as a drama artiste.
