Jagan Mohan Reddy Tightens Administration

Share

It has been six months since YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took over as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and he has already shown his mark on the state administration.

However, Jagan has realised that the district administration has not been in tune with his thinking of bringing governance close to the people. So, a day after completing six months in office, Jagan made a quick review of the functioning of the administration by holding a meeting with collectors and gave a fresh set of guidelines to them.

Naturally, Jagan giving his piece of mind to the collectors has become a lead story for the major Telugu dailies in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Sakshi carried a banner story on how Jagan asked the Collectors to stop wasting on video conferences and teleconferences but focus on field level inspections. He asked them to be on the field for 15 days a month, sleep in the villages and get closer to the people.

Eenadu also carried it as a second lead story, highlighting Jagan’s dissatisfaction over the Collectors’ callous attitude. It quoted Jagan as saying that the Collectors should change their attitude and be on the field for 15 days a month.

Andhra Jyothy, as usual, took a negative stand and sought to attack the Collectors for blindly following the instructions of the government and becoming puppets in the hands of the ruling YSR Congress party. It alleged that the Collectors were interested more in publicity than the field work.

Known for its own style of reporting, Eenadu carried a flyer on growing atrocities of women across the country in general and Telugu states in particular, but poor record of awarding sentencing the accused in the rapes and killings of women.

Alongside of this report, the daily carried the day’s developments on Hyderabad veterinarian murder case which evoked nation-wide outrage. Such reports will definitely attract more readership.

Eenadu’s first lead story is on Andhra Pradesh high court chief justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari’s speech at the state judicial officers’ conference at Acharya Nagarjuna University campus in Guntur, highlighting the need to dispose of cases quickly to restore the confidence of the people on the judiciary.

It also carried another special story on how families living under a bridge in Vijayawada. A human interesting story that will have good readership.

Sakshi carried a second lead report on the state government’s latest health initiative – YSR Arogya Aasara, a revamped Arogya Sri programme which has been under implementation for over a decade.

Interestingly, the state government issued a full-page jacket advertisement to Eenadu but only a half-page ad to Sakshi, despite it being Jagan’s own venture. As usual, Andhra Jyothy did not get the ad.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam trust board chairman Y V Subba Reddy’s rejoinder on the allegations of Jesus Christ name popping up in the TTD weblink was also prominently carried by the media on Monday.

Reddy clarified that the TTD website doesn’t have any such mention of Jesus and only Google link mentions that on which an enquiry would be ordered.

Otherwise, there are no other major controversial reports in the Telugu media on Monday.

US BO: New Films Fail to Bring Josh

Share

The overseas market for Telugu films shows no signs of revival. The dull phase is continuing. Last weekend’s new releases have also failed to cheer up the exhibitors and distributors.

The much-delayed Nikhil Siddharth’s ‘Arjun Suravaram’ and small-budgeted film ‘Raja Vaaru Raani Gaaru’ hit the screens in the USA last weekend.

Since ‘Arjun Suravaram’ got delayed many times, audiences have lost interest to watch it in the theaters.

Despite this, Nikhil Siddharth can heave a sigh of relief that the movie has at least managed to bring in about 100k dollars.‘Raaja Vaaru Rani Gaaru’ that featured newcomers and made by new director and producer has collected about 10k dollars.

The next week releases such as ‘90ML’, ‘Mismatch’, ‘Pressure Cooker’ also don’t seem to give an impetus to the revenue at the USA box-office.

Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya’s ‘Venky Mama’ and Sai Dharam Tej’s ‘Prati Roju Pandage’ may bring in audiences to the screens.

#JusticeForDisha: Family locked its house

Share

After fed up with intervening into their privacies and for not meeting their demands, #JusticeForDisha’s family members locked politicians, police and media out of their colony in Shamshabad on Sunday. Those who came to console the family have been disregarded and asked them to not come from here on.

The family had colony’s fellow residents in support and the local crowd were irked with the repeated attempts of VIPs trying to offer sympathies and condolences. The residents also put up a placard that read “No entry for media, politicians and police.” The family locked its house from the outside. Disha’s parents gave a statement that they are least interested in getting sympathy and consoling talks with any VIPs. All they want is only justice, they said.

Right now, the family is vexed over the police for not taking timely action for their daughter on November 27 and all they need is to comprehend their agony and leave them alone. Many VIPs came to pay a visit including Governor Tamilsai Soundarajan and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy.

On Sunday, CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and CPM leader J. Ranga Reddy was stopped by locking the gates. Only Congress MP Revanth Reddy and Union minister Sanjeev Kumar Balyan accompanied by TRS MP Ranjith Reddy were allowed in.

Also, questions are raising among colony members on why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet tweeted on the incident, who is surprisingly active on social media. Former CPI(M) MLA J Ranga Reddy and his party workers were also stopped by the residents and asked to go back. Yet, the MLA and his colleagues squatted at the gates some time, expressing support for the family.

Brahmanandam campaigns for BJP

Share

Comedian Brahmanandam is not doing many films these days like earlier. Everyone in the industry, including the audiences outside are in opinion that Brahmi will certainly bounce back.

In a surprise move, Brahmanandam took part in an election campaign and stunned everyone. Going into details, for about 16 assembly constituencies in Karnataka, the by-elections will be held soon and for BJP candidate Dr. Sudhakar, Brahmi held a road show in Chikkaballapur.

This constituency and nearby places like Baagepalli, Gauribidanuru have lot of Telugu speaking people presences as they are located on the border of Andhra Prasesh. In order to attract voters, the BJP candidate roped in Brahmanandam.

But many say that Brahmi is not joining politics for now and added that it is not an alternative career for him. If Brahmi does(in future), he will join the list of comedians like Ali, Pridhviraj and others to have stepped into politics.

The only thing we can take a note from this is, Brahmi’s charm. As the star comedian is going through dull phase, we have to see how will Brahmi’s campaign help the BJP candidate.

In 2018 for the same Chikkaballapur constituency, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan campaigned for independent candidate Naveen Kiran.

2 Indian Students Killed in US Hit and Run Crash

Washington: Two Indian students were killed in a hit-and-run accident in South Nashville, Tennessee on Thanksgiving night, authorities have said.
Judy Stanley (23), and Vybhav Gopisetty (26), were graduate students of the Tennessee State University (TSU) and were pursuing food science degrees in the College of Agriculture, the university said.

The university students have raised — through a GoFundMe Page — more than $42,000 for their last rites and funeral in India.

According to the local police, Stanley and Gopisetty died in an apparent hit-and-run incident on the night of November 28. Stanley was seeking a master’s, Gopisetty, a doctorate, the university said in a statement.

David Torres (26), the owner of the GMC pickup truck involved the double-fatal crash on Nolensville Pike near Harding Place, surrendered before the police, Metro Nashville Police Department said on Sunday.

“Torres would not answer questions. Officers took a DNA sample. Investigation continuing,” the police said.

According to the police, Torres’ vehicle crashed into a Nissan Sentra, in which the two Indian students were travelling. The pickup truck was speeding and ran a red light when it hit the passenger side of the Sentra, witnesses said according to ABC-affiliate News 9.

The car went off the road and through a fence before slamming into a tree on the Walmart property. Stanley and Gopisetty succumbed to injuries and their families have been notified, police said, adding that Torres ran away from the scene.

According to eyewitness Louis Mireles, he was walking to the bus stop when he heard it happen and saw the GMC driver run away from the scene.

“Boom boom like that and I looked backward. It was right there I would’ve been dead right there, but something told me to step back,” local News 4 quoted him as saying.

“They’re dead but we are going to make them alive again, so people get their chance in court get him because that guy ran… he didn’t even care about their lives,” Mireles said.

Bharat Pokharel, Associate Professor at the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Agriculture said the students were “humble, innocent, and hardworking” with a “prosperous future”. “I could not believe what had happened to the lives of these two young energetic scientists, he said in a Facebook Post.

Sharath Julakanti of the food science club at TSU has created the GoFundMe page.

According to the page, Vybhav Vipul Sudhir Gopisetty landed in Nashville with a dream to shine in the field of food science and completed his master’s with excellent scores and four publications in international journals.

“Judy Stanley came from a middle-class financial background; she was a girl with positive attitude and hardworking in nature. She was passionate about helping poor people by participating in various volunteering and fund collecting program but finally a situation arise, where we are now collecting fund for her funeral,” the page says.

“We kindly request everyone to support them for their funeral which is to be held at India,” it added.

No Remuneration For Venky, 2 Lakh Salary for Director

The pre-production work for Asuran’s Telugu remake is in full swing. Venkatesh will soon be stepping into Dhanush’s shoes for this intense crime drama. SVSC and Brahmotsavam director Sreekanth Addala, who will be helming this crazy remake, is leaving no stone unturned to deliver a blockbuster.

When Suresh Babu officially announced that Sreekanth Addala will direct Asuran remake, fans and film industry people were in for a huge surprise. The reason is that Sreekanth Addala has been lying low with back to back flops. Also, all his movies so far have been light-hearted entertainers and he has never handled an intense crime drama.

And here’s the story behind Sreekanth Addala’s entry into this remake. Apparently, Suresh Babu has asked Sreekanth to wrap up the entire film within a mere Rs 13 crore budget. Furthermore, Sreekanth, who once directed stars like Mahesh Babu and Venky, is now been rumoured to have been signed by Suresh Babu for a monthly salary of Rs 2 lakhs.

The buzz in film circles is that even Venkatesh will not be charging any remuneration and he will be taking his share from the profits. We believe even Sreekanth may get a share from the profits after the film’s release. Suresh Babu will co-produce the film along with Asuran’s producer Kalaipuli S Thanu.

Samajavaragamana has reached 100 million views on YouTube and still going strong.

Balakrishna’s Ruler From Rs. 4 Cr To Free Distribution!

Share

Balakrishna’s upcoming film Ruler hasn’t lived up to its title in the overseas circuit. The producer expected the film to fetch Rs. 4 crore for its overseas distribution rights, but they didn’t even find someone who could invest one-fourth of it.

As the film is approaching the release date the makers have decided to release the film on their own. They are releasing it though some local distributor on commission basis. They are not going to charge the distributor for other expenses.

It is literally free of cost and the producer will get whatever it collects after deducting the exhibition costs, taxes and the distributor’s commission.

It’s quite a remarkable fall from what they had expected at the beginning. It is getting extremely difficult to find distributors for big ticket films in overseas market.

There’s no wonder that a mass masala movie like Ruler has no takers given the disastrous performance of Balakrishna’s previous films, the two part biopic of NTR and Jai Simha.

Vet’s rape, murder case in fast track court, announces KCR

Share

Telangana Chief Minister K .Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday directed officials to ensure that the accused in woman veterinarian’s gang-rape and murder are tried in a fast track court and the culprits get stringent punishment.

In his first reaction since the ghastly crime on the outskirts of Hyderabad on November 27, the Chief Minister expressed his deep anguish.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, decided to set up a fast track court to deal with the case. He asked the officials concerned to take measures in this regard.

He noted that in the case relating to rape and murder of a minor girl in Warangal, setting up of the fast track court ensured the verdict in 56 days, and in in the young veterinarian’s case too, the verdict should come quickly.

The Chief Minister announced that the government would extend all the necessary help and support to members of the victim’s family.

According to Chief Minister’s Office, he was upset that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes are living amidst us. He termed the incident gruesome and inhuman.

Police on November 29 arrested four truck drivers and cleaners for the gruesome crime, which sent shock waves across the country and evoked huge public outrage.

Protests were held in several parts of the country to demand death penalty to the accused.

The accused trapped the woman by deflating one of the tyres of her scooty when she retured to Tondupally toll gate on Outer Ring Road in Shamshabad around 9 p.m. to pick up her parked vehicle and return home.

According to police, after raping the victim one after the other for nearly an hour, they carried the body in the truck to dump it near Shadnagar town, about 28 km from Shamshabad, and burnt the body.

A magistrate in Shadnagar town on Saturday remanded the accused to judicial custody for 14 days.

They were later shifted to Cherlapally jail in Hyderabad.
