Andhra Pradesh: Amaravati back to headlines!

Share

The NDA government’s move to incorporate Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh in the revised map of India prepared by Survey of India and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement that he would tour the capital area on Thursday has brought the controversy over the Andhra capital back into headlines.

As if to neutralise the impact of these developments, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting with officials of the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) on Monday and asked them to complete the pending works as quickly as possible on a priority basis.

He also announced development of plots allotted to the farmers who have given their land for the capital city.

He directed that the officials concentrate first on the constructions that are about to be completed and for the same, the government is ready to grant funds. He said that the reverse tendering in the construction works will reduce the amount.

Jagan’s review meeting has become the banner story for Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy.

Both the dailies focussed on his statement that there was no need to take up construction of assembly, secretariat and high court buildings for now, apparently to give an indication that the Jagan government might relocate these structures.

Andhra Jyothy went a step ahead and carried a second lead story on municipal administration minister Botsa Satyanarayana describing Amaravati as a burial ground and asking the TDP president why he was visiting such a place.

Sakshi, however, carried Jagan’s review meeting as a small item, asking the officials to complete the incomplete structures. However, it made the outburst of a section of Amaravati farmers against Naidu as its second lead story.

The controversy over English as a medium of instruction continues to hog the media headlines.

Eenadu carried a big story on the TDP chief expressing doubts whether Jagan and his ministers would find fault with even Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi for stressing on mother tongue. It also published a small story on Pawan Kalyan’s comment in this regard.

Andhra Jyothy also carried Naidu’s Kadapa meeting, but downplayed his comment on English, while Sakshi completely ignored it.

Andhra Jyothy and Sakshi gave prominence to Jagan’s call to the people to report to the toll-free number 14400 on any issue of corruption, including irregularities in sand supply. For Sakshi it is a banner story and AJ also carried it as a single column at the top.

The Maharashtra episode in which Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP demonstrating their strength by parading their MLAs has been taken as a flyer in Sakshi and in the other two dailies, it was taken as main story prominently.

Eenadu carried an interesting political story of YSRC MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju going to the BJP office despite the recent controversy over his support to Telugu language and his salutes to PM Modi. Obviously, it was meant to needle the YSRC.

Andhra Jyothy also has its brand of negative story on Polavaram Project Authority refusing to intervene on release of funds by the Centre for the Polavaram project and asking the Jagan government on its plan of action.

Allu Arjun Seeks Ideas to Crack the Market

The overseas market is at an all-time low. Even big-budgeted movies are not raking in big moolah.High-profile movies like “Sye Raa” and “Saaho” too have become duds in the USA market. Compared to other stars, Allu Arjun doesn’t have a big craze in the USA.

“Sarrainodu” was the biggest hit in his career in the domestic market but the movie was a dud in the USA. “Duvvada Jagannadham” was an average grosser while ‘Naa Peru Surya’ was a huge dud.“Julayi”, “S/o Sathyamurthy” and “Race Gurram” were the only three films that made big money in the USA among Bunny’s movies.

Now, “Ala Vaikunthapurramlo” is making all the great buzz. The film is directed by Trivikram who has tremendous craze in the USA market.Trivikram’s ‘A Aa’ still remains one of the all-time biggest hits overseas. With ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramlo’ music becoming viral, Allu Arjun is more confident that he would crack the market this time. However, the bad situation in the USA market is a worrying factor.

Bunny has now asked his time to come up with ideas to promote the movie for the USA market in innovative and revive the market there. His film is competing with Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sarlieru Neekevvaru’. And Mahesh Babu is considered as the king of the overseas market. But even Mahesh’s recent films didn’t perform much there. So, this time it is going to be an interesting battle.

Amaravati row heats up, Jagan orders to speed up work

Share

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday directed the officials of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to complete the works as quickly as possible. The decision comes three days ahead of leader of opposition and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Amaravati to highlight how the development works in the state capital came to a standstill after Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) came to power.

The chief minister reviewed the CRDA work at a meeting with Urban Development and Municipal Administration Minister Botsa Satyanarayana and officials of CRDA, the official body constituted in 2014 and entrusted with the task of building the capital city and capital region.Reddy asked the officials not to go for unnecessary expenses, keeping in view the economic conditions of the state.

The government also decided to develop the plots allotted to the farmers who had given their land for the capital city.He directed the officials to concentrate first on the construction that are about to be completed, saying the government is ready to grant funds for the same. He said that the reverse tendering in the construction work will reduce the costs.

The chief minister sought details of the works and expenditure incurred so far. He also sought information on the designs of the roads in the CRDA area and instructed the officials that there should be no mistakes in the planning. He instructed the officials to take advice and suggestions from IITs on cost, design and other aspects of road construction. The decisions assume significance in the wake of former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s upcoming visit to Amaravati.

The TDP chief has announced that he will visit Amaravati, his brainchild, on November 28. This comes in the wake of Singapore Consortium pulling out of the project, and farmers who gave their lands for the capital moving the high court.Earlier in the day, minister Satyanarayana questioned Naidu on the development undertaken during the last five years.Satyanarayana said only five per cent of works were completed in Amaravati during Naidu’s five-year rule.

“The budget for development of capital has been estimated to be Rs 1.9 lakh crore but only Rs 4,900 crore has been spent,” said Satyanarayana and alleged that Naidu turned the capital city into a graveyard.”Farmers should question Chandrababu on development when he visits Amaravati,” the Minister said. He also assured Amaravati farmers that all the government orders issued earlier would be implemented and continue to develop plots given to farmers.

After the YSRCP government took over in May, all works in Amaravati were kept on hold, pending probe into alleged irregularities by the previous government in awarding contracts and in allotting prime lands to those close to then Chief Minister. The government is also cancelling the contracts awarded by the previous government to go for reverse tendering, saying the exercise would save public money.

Amid uncertainty over the future of Amaravati, Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government last month formed an experts’ panel and also sought suggestions from people.Satyanarayana had earlier said after the receipt of the panel’s report the government would decide whether to go ahead with Amaravati as the state capital or look for another location.

Tamil ‘Arjun Reddy’ Turning Out To Be A Hit

Share

When the trailer of ‘Arjun Reddy’ Tami remake is out, many cinema lovers from the Telugu arena haven’t even liked to 1% of the love they showered on the Telugu original. But it looks like Tamil folks are happy with the way this film shaped up and the box office run in the first weekend stands a testimony of that.

Released on last Friday, the Tamil version of Arjun Reddy, ‘Aditya Varma’ featuring star hero Vikram’s son Dhruv in the lead, is doing well at the box office. After collecting 2.8 crores gross on Day 1, the film collected a total of 8 crores gross in its opening weekend across Tamilnadu. Collecting almost 5.5+ crore ‘share’ in the opening week is a big thing for a newcomer and surely we must say that the power of content has done that easily.

While reviews of the film are mixed, some hailed Dhruv’s performance but haven’t said great things in comparison to Vijay Devarkonda’s original version in Telugu. However, it seems like youths got connected to the movie and Dhruv along with Banita Sandhu have impressed the audiences.

Trade experts are predicting that the film might turn a hit in the long run if it continues this form for the next two weeks at least.
