Vishwambhara vs Chiru 157: Clash or Compromise?

Share

Vishwambhara, touted as the most expensive film in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s career, is yet to finalize its release date. However, director Vassishta has recently begun a series of media interactions, sparking discussions among fans and industry watchers. The timing is particularly noteworthy, as Anil Ravipudi’s aggressive promotional campaign for Chiru 157 has started to dominate headlines. Industry sources suggest that Vishwambhara’s team initiated this media push to level the publicity field — likely with Chiranjeevi’s full backing.

UV Creations, the production house behind Vishwambhara, is reportedly targeting an official release date announcement on August 22, coinciding with Chiranjeevi’s birthday. If current plans hold, the film will hit theatres in the third week of October. This development puts Chiru 157 — which is being geared for a Sankranti 2026 release — in a delicate position.

While it may seem logical to space out two major Chiranjeevi films, convincing director Anil Ravipudi to postpone may not be easy. Known for his clear vision and confidence, Anil had earlier made waves with his announcement Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, hinting at a firm Sankranti slot.

If both films release as currently planned — Vishwambhara in October and Chiru 157 in January — it will mark a rare occurrence in Chiranjeevi’s career. The last time the star had two releases within such a short span was during the 1980s. In today’s box office landscape, such a move could be risky, regardless of star power. Even Pawan Kalyan’s double-header with Hari Hara Veera Mallu and OG followed a more spaced strategy.

If Anil Ravipudi agrees to defer the release, Chiru 157 might move to summer 2026. Otherwise, audiences could witness a high-stakes double feature season with Chiranjeevi headlining two big-ticket films within weeks. The final call rests with the Megastar — and the outcome could shape the Telugu release calendar in a significant way.

‘Devara 2’ Set to Roll in Early 2026

Share

After months of speculation and radio silence, Devara 2 is finally showing signs of progress—much to the delight of Jr NTR fans. While the first installment, directed by Koratala Siva, emerged as a major box office success and one of the highest grossers of its year, the lack of updates had sparked doubts about whether the sequel would materialize at all.

However, trusted industry sources have now confirmed that the project is very much alive and moving forward. Koratala Siva and his writing team have reportedly locked the final script draft, and a detailed narration session with Jr NTR is expected to take place soon. With promotional duties for War 2 nearing completion and Prashanth Neel’s project currently on pause, the timing seems ideal to initiate pre-production.

Jr NTR is expected to wrap up his current commitments by the end of 2025, clearing the way for Devara 2 to potentially go on floors in early 2026—tentatively around January or February. The team is targeting a grand Sankranti 2027 release, with plans to complete principal photography by Dussehra 2026, allowing sufficient time for post-production.

What’s further fuelling the buzz is the creative team’s decision to revisit and refine the storyline based on feedback received for Devara’s second half. Viewers can expect tighter writing, stronger emotional arcs, and resolutions to several lingering plot threads—such as the identity of Devara’s attackers, Varun’s path to avenging his father’s death, the full extent of Saif Ali Khan’s character’s influence, and the role Bobby Deol will play in the sequel.

There is also strong chatter that Janhvi Kapoor’s role will be significantly expanded in the follow-up. However, final casting and scheduling decisions remain pending and will be confirmed only after the production timeline is locked.

With momentum picking up and expectations running high, Devara 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films on Jr NTR’s horizon.

Prabhas’s The Raja Saab Postponed to Sankranthi 2026

Share

The highly anticipated Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab is no longer slated for a December 2025 release, as initially announced. Industry sources and distributors now indicate that the horror-comedy is likely to hit theatres on January 9, 2026, positioning itself as a festive Sankranthi treat for fans.

Originally scheduled for release on December 5, 2025, the film’s postponement is attributed to the need for additional time to complete its extensive visual effects work. An official announcement regarding the new release date is expected soon.

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab marks Prabhas’s return to the Sankranthi release window—a period that has previously brought him significant box-office success, beginning with Varsham in the early 2000s. In recent years, the pan-India star has largely shifted to summer and monsoon releases, making this festive comeback particularly notable.

The film features Prabhas in the lead role, with veteran actor Sanjay Dutt playing his grandfather. The ensemble cast also includes Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Ridhhi Kumar.

As anticipation builds, The Raja Saab is expected to be a key box-office contender during the Sankranthi 2026 holiday season.

Tesla Fined $243M Over Fatal Autopilot Crash

Share

In a landmark verdict, a federal jury in Miami has ordered Tesla to pay $243 million (approximately ₹1,996 crore) in damages over a 2019 crash involving its Autopilot system that resulted in one fatality and left another victim critically injured.

The incident occurred on April 25, 2019, in Key Largo, Florida, when a Tesla Model S, operating on Autopilot and driven by George McGee, collided with a parked Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle failed to stop at a flashing red light and a stop sign, striking 22-year-old Naibel Benavides Leon and her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo, who were stargazing nearby. Benavides was killed instantly, while Angulo suffered multiple fractures and a traumatic brain injury.

Despite McGee admitting he was distracted and searching for a dropped phone at the time of the crash, the jury found Tesla 33% liable, citing that its Autopilot system was not designed for rural intersections and was being misused outside of its intended highway setting. The total award amounted to $329 million, including $43 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages aimed at deterring similar future incidents.

Tesla has announced plans to appeal the decision, arguing that driver negligence was solely to blame. The company also defended its technology, warning that the verdict could hinder innovation in vehicle safety systems.

The case drew attention to broader issues surrounding Tesla’s marketing practices and data transparency. Plaintiffs alleged that Tesla misrepresented the capabilities of Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features, and initially withheld key crash data that later proved critical to the case.

The ruling comes at a pivotal time for Tesla, as regulatory scrutiny intensifies around its driver-assistance systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has linked Tesla’s Autopilot to hundreds of crashes, and regulators in California have already denied permits for Tesla’s autonomous taxi services.

With Elon Musk’s robotaxi ambitions facing growing challenges, this verdict could mark a turning point for legal accountability in the autonomous driving industry.

Visa Officer Reveals Why Schengen Applications Get Rejected

Share

In a rare and candid disclosure, a Schengen visa officer recently took to Reddit to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the visa assessment process, shedding light on why many applicants—especially from countries like India—often face rejection. The insights, shared during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session and later reposted on the subreddit r/visarejection, have sparked widespread discussion and debate.

Lack of Home Ties: The Primary Red Flag

According to the officer, a career diplomat handling up to 200 applications daily, the most common reason for rejection is the absence of strong ties to the applicant’s home country. “Not owning property, no stable or well-paid job, no family obligations, no running business—these are key factors that help prove you’ll return home,” he wrote.

Applicants often underestimate the importance of demonstrating compelling reasons to return. Visa officers, the diplomat noted, are trained to assess risk, and the strength of an applicant’s roots in their home country plays a central role in that determination.

Fake Bookings and Inconsistent Itineraries Raise Suspicion

The officer also flagged dummy bookings and unrealistic travel plans as frequent pitfalls. “Bookings that don’t align with your finances” are easy to spot, he warned. For instance, luxury hotel reservations made on modest incomes—or conversely, ultra-budget trips by seemingly wealthy applicants—often appear suspicious. “Even very cheap bookings while being wealthy can look suspicious,” he added, emphasizing the importance of consistency between an applicant’s financial profile and their travel plans.

Cover Letters Skimmed, Sponsorship Letters Valued

Another surprising admission was the limited attention paid to cover letters. “Often ignored or only briefly skimmed,” he said. However, sponsorship letters—particularly for student visa applications—carry significant weight. “Student visa D applications are rarely rejected if the university has already accepted the student,” he noted.

For long-term or multi-entry visas, the officer stated that he adheres to the “cascade regime”—granting longer validity only after an applicant has established a credible travel history.

The Role of Nationality: An Unspoken Barrier?

While the officer emphasized that nationality should not be a determining factor, Reddit users were quick to point out what they viewed as an uncomfortable truth: the applicant’s country of origin often plays a decisive, if unofficial, role.

“He missed the number one factor, though… the ‘home country’ itself is the major factor that affects your ‘score’,” one commenter argued, highlighting perceived biases in the system. Another user recalled a conversation with a French diplomat who admitted, “If you are rich enough by French standards, we just issue the tourist visa assuming you have no other red flags.”

Employer Support Can Help—But Isn’t Always Enough

For applicants lacking business or property ownership, employer support can serve as a compensatory strength. “Show a strong job and have your employer vouch for you with an official letter,” the officer advised, though he acknowledged that this alone may not suffice in all cases.

Religion Not a Factor, But Nationality Might Be

The officer clarified that religion plays no role in visa decisions. However, nationality—though not officially acknowledged—may implicitly influence assessments.

Though the officer did not specify which embassies he has served in, his disclosures offer a rare and sobering look at the inner workings of Schengen visa processing. For many applicants, even a meticulously prepared application may not overcome the challenges posed by a “weak” passport.

Facebook’s Onavo Scandal

Share

In 2013, Facebook acquired Israeli tech firm Onavo for approximately $120 million. Marketed as a VPN designed to enhance privacy, reduce data usage, and secure online activity, Onavo was downloaded by over 33 million users who believed they were protecting their digital lives. Unbeknownst to them, the app served a different purpose: granting Facebook unprecedented visibility into user behavior across their mobile devices.

Through Onavo, Facebook could monitor which apps users opened, how long they used them, the websites they visited, and when—all under the guise of privacy protection. This behavioral data was instrumental in tracking emerging competitors, including Houseparty, YouTube, Amazon, and most notably, Snapchat.

When Snapchat’s encrypted traffic limited Facebook’s visibility, the company initiated “Project Ghostbusters.” This covert operation involved leveraging Onavo’s infrastructure to install root certificates on users’ devices, enabling Facebook to decrypt and analyze traffic from Snapchat by impersonating its servers. The insights gained influenced Facebook’s strategic decisions, including its failed $3 billion acquisition offer for Snapchat. Following Snapchat’s rejection, Facebook launched Instagram Stories, a near-identical clone of Snapchat’s core feature.

After Apple removed Onavo from the App Store in 2018 due to privacy violations, Facebook relaunched a similar program under the name “Facebook Research” (internally known as Project Atlas). This version paid users—including teenagers—as much as $20 per month to install an app with deep-level access to their mobile activity. Apple responded by revoking Facebook’s enterprise developer certificates, disrupting the company’s internal app operations on iOS.

Regulatory scrutiny followed. In 2020, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) filed a lawsuit against Facebook, alleging deceptive conduct related to Onavo’s privacy claims. In 2023, Meta subsidiaries were fined AUD 20 million—one of the rare instances of a tech giant facing financial penalties for misleading users.

Why It Matters

The Onavo case highlights how data can be weaponized by dominant tech platforms. Facebook used a privacy-branded tool to engage in surveillance, clone rising competitors, and shape its market strategy. It also underscores the ethical risks of targeting young users for data collection and the need for robust regulatory oversight.

Even years later, Onavo remains a landmark example of how the pursuit of data can blur the lines between innovation and exploitation.
