Prabhas Heads Off to Paris
Tall and handsome Prabhas on Sunday was spotted at Hyderabad airport leaving for Europe. He boarded the Paris flight.
It is learnt Prabhas left for Paris on a personal trip. It is quite common for Prabhas to relax in European resorts whenever he gets free time.
After the release of “Saaho”, Prabhas has asked director Radha Krishna to make some changes to the script of “Jaanu”. Hence the shoot was stalled for now.
Only after the shoot of this movie was rescheduled, the movie’s heroine has allotted her dates to Akhil Akkineni’s movie and she is now shooting for this Akhil’s romantic drama.
Prabhas has been staying away from the media after the release of “Saaho”. The team has been maintaining total silence about the movie that was a hit in Hindi but flop in Telugu.
The USA loves India, Trump says after ‘Howdy, Modi!’
President Donald Trump said on Sunday the USA loves India, expressing his gratitude to over 50,000 India-American for giving him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi a rousing welcome on their arrival at the packed NRG stadium here for the much-awaited “Howdy, Modi” event.
Trump and Modi embraced each other and walked together towards the stage waving at the boisterous crowd that had been waiting eagerly for the historic occasion.
It was for the first time that Trump and Modi shared a stage together and addressed a record crowd of 50,000 Indian-Americans.
“The USA loves India!” Trump said in a succinct tweet.
He described as “incredible” the electric atmosphere at the NRG arena in Houston.
Later in his speech, Trump describes Modi as America’s “greatest” and “most loyal friend”, and said the prime minister was doing an exceptional job for India.
“Under Prime Minister Modi the world is witnessing a strong, thriving and sovereign India,” he said.
Trump said he was looking forward to work with Modi to make “our nations more prosperous than ever before”.
iSmart Shankar Beauty Looking for Offers
The massive success of “iSmart Shankar” has changed the lives of the movie’s hero Ram Pothineni, director Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmee for the good.
The film also brought luck to Nabha Natesh as she has recently bagged two more new movies. But it is Nidhii Agerwal whose fate has remained the same even after scoring a big hit in her career.
Nidhii Agerwal debuted in Naga Chaitanya’s “Savyasaachi” and later did “Mr.Majnu” with Akhil Akkineni. Both movies tanked at the box office winning her ‘iron leg’ tab.
The success of “iSmart Shankar” has changed this image but offers didn’t come her way yet.
Nidhii is now looking her luck again in Bollywood. Her Instagram feed is proof that she is wooing the makers in Bollywood.
Photos and videos in hot avatar are being uploaded by her daily.
Naidu Looking For New Reason To Fight
TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu did not make much issue out of the boat capsize in Godavari killing more than 30 people so far. He had just tweeted on his twitter handle and left it to his party.
He did not make any issue out of it. May be he is worried about the half-a-dozen such incidents happened during his tenure between 2014 and 2019.
He made an issue out of the group rivalry of Amthakuru in Palnadu a State issue. In fact, it did help him in terms of media exposure to infuse life into the party.
Later, he took the dead body of Kodela Sivaprasada Rao and held that frozen body for three days and rallied in Narasaraopet, the adobe of Palnadu region in Guntur district.
Be it Challo Athmakuru call or the corpse of Kodela could not help him breathe life into his party. They were all exclusive events planned for the media hype.
Now, the TDP chief is seriously on the lookout for a reasonably good issue to take on the Jaganmohan Reddy government.
Though Andhra Jyothi Radha Krishna could bring in the question paper leakage in the village secretariat recruitment, for reasons known to him, Chandrababu Naidu did not take it to fight on as it involved in the lives of 1.26 lakh youth and their families.
Well, it is to be seen how long will it take for Naidu to take a next issue and fight against the government.
Valmiki Underperforms at US Box-office
“Valmiki”/“Gaddhalakonda Ganesh” is posting good numbers on the domestic front but the US Telugu audiences have not shown the same love to Varun Tej.
Among the young stars, Varun Tej is the only star who has two movies (F2 & Fidaa) that had crossed more than $2 million at the USA box-office. He has a good track record here.
However, the seemingly ‘mass content’ has not brought the USA Telugu audiences to the theaters in big numbers.
Harish Shankar directed “Gaddhalakonda Ganesh” grossed in the range of $350k in its first weekend.
#Valmiki – Premiere: 84,872 Fri: 79,649 Sat: 108,333 Sun: 65k (apprx) Total Weekend Gross: $340k (apprx)
The film grossed better than his previous solo release “Antariksham” ($282k) but collected a lot lower than “Tholi Prema” ($600k+).
On the other hand, Nani’s “Gang Leader” has flopped badly. The film grossed $910k so far
All eyes on Jagan, KCR meet today
The two Telugu chief ministers are holding a crucial meeting in Hyderabad today. This is the second meeting in a row in the last three months.
The officials of the two states have been holding similar meetings to sort out bifurcation issues.
The issues like sharing of assets and liabilities of the institutions listed in Schedule IX and X of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 is one of the core issues for this meeting.
The other issue is the linking of Godavari with Krishna to give water to Rayalaseema in AP and Nalgonda and Mahaboobnagar in Telangana.
The two chief ministers have come out with a plan to take Godavari water to Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar. The two states would share the project cost, while Telangana would execute it.
Opposition parties in the two states have criticised the move, but the two chief ministers are firm on going forward with their plans.
Water for the two States is very important in the years to come as Krishna river would have no water with Karnataka and Maharastra either increasing the height of the existing projects are constructing new projects.
The only source for the Telugu States is Godavari and hence the two chief ministers are bent on using the Godavari water through this mega project.
There is at least 3,500 tmcft of water in Godavari going into the sea every year. The governments want to use it for the drought prone Rayalaseema in AP and Nalgonda and Mahaboobnagar in TS.
‘World Famous Lover’ Director Denies Rumours
There came reports out of nowhere that hero Vijay Deverakonda has asked director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s help for his upcoming movie ‘World Famous Lover.’
Reacting to these rumours, director of the film Kranthi Madhav has denied them.
Speaking he said, “I have no clue how these rumours came out. We are still shooting for the film and there are two schedules pending.”
Adding further the director said the film will take its own time to come to the editor’s desk and also decide on the teaser and other things later.
Currently ‘World Famous Lover’ is shooting in Hyderabad and a schedule is being planned in foreign land.
Raashi Khanna, Catherine Tresa, Aishwarya Rajesh and Izabelle are the female leads.
Police Complaint Against Andhra Jyothi
A complaint was given to the police against Andhra Jyothi daily for misleading people and playing with the lives of candidates who have written the village secretariat exam.
Ruling YSR Congress State secretary Pyla Narasimhaiah had lodged this complaint with Tadipatri DSP Srinivasulu on Sunday.
Narasimhaiah alleged that the Andhra Jyothi was spreading fake news about the village secretariat exam question paper leakage causing tension and agony to the 19.50 lakh candidates who appeared for it.
He said that the State government had taken up recruitment of 1.26 lakh candidates for the village and ward secretariats across the State. The exam was conducted from September 1 to 8 and the results were released on September 19.
The recruitment process will begin this week and the village and ward secretariats will start functioning from October 2.
While the government is moving forward with its plans on recruitment, Andhra Jyothi is publishing news about the leakage of question paper to a select set of people who scored the top ranks.
Narasimhaiah told the police that the news was disturbing and disappointing as 1.26 lakh candidates in distress over their future.
The YSR Congress leader said that Andhra Jyothi and its publisher Vemuri Radhakrishna were spreading fake news only to create socio-political unrest in the state.
As this is a bigger game of politics, it is to be seen what the police would do.
Will the police act like they are acting in the case of social media posts or will they wait for the clearance from the government to make next move, is the big question now.
Trump tries to reset optics for 2020 via ‘Howdy Modi’
New York: With an eye on next year’s elections, US President Donald Trump tried at the ‘Howdy Modi!’ rally to reset the optics for his campaign among immigrants – a group among whom he has fared badly because of the broad brush accusation of being anti-immigrant.
Unlike his ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) rallies for his re-election campaign where the audience is predominantly white, he was on Sunday in the midst of about 50,000 brown people – a striking visual contrast – at Houston’s NRG stadium.
And it was broadcast live nationally by some channels.
His address was like his usual stump speeches proclaiming his tax cuts, low unemployment, strong economy and border security – except for the omission of partisan attacks on the Democratic opponents and the addition of elements specific to India.
Another huge difference was that Trump, who likes to be the centre of the universe, was not the main speaker at the rally for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The New York Times said he was playing a “second fiddle” and The Washington Post “an unusual role of warm-up act”.
It was also the biggest crowd he has addressed during his campaign, though short of the 70,000 he had said that would be there, a number beyond the stadium’s capacity.
The optics and crowd size appeared to be his main motivations to take the unprecedented step of attending a large ethnic rally for a foreign leader. In recent memory, no President has done this – and possibly never.
“The Prime Minister of India has asked me to make a speech and I will make a speech in a stadium loaded up with something like 70,000 people or whatever the maximum is,” Trump said before leaving for the rally.
And probably unprecedented was also the presence of a large number of Democrats among the about 60 elected officials, including Governors, Senators and Representatives, who were on the stage before him.
For them too, the large crowd of Indians, many coming to Houston from their scattered constituencies across the nation was a draw.
The rally was an opportunity for Trump to present himself as a supporter of legal immigrants, while opposing illegal immigration, a distinction that has been erased by the media and his political opponents to make him appear an anti-immigrant racist.
“We are proud to have you as Americans,” Trump said, praising the Indian diaspora for accepting American values.
Holding them out as the kind of immigrants he would like for America, he mentioned their contributions especially to medicine, technology and job creation through entrepreneurship.
“Indian-Americans are writing the story of American greatness,” he added.
According to the Pew Research Centre, the nearly four million people of Indian descent are the highest earning ethnic group in the US, with a median income of $100,000, almost double that of the national median, and with 72 per cent having at least a bachelor’s degree.
Trump emhasised the difference between legal and illegal immigrants to scattered applause.
“We proudly fight for our citizens,” he said apparently referring also to Modi.
Trump said that he was against free benefits to those who enter the US illegally and added that he was going take care of the Indian-American citizens first – with emphasis on “citizens”.
Speaking about his focus on tightening the borders, he said: “Border security is vital to India – we understand that.”
While the media and Democrats have have cast him as a racist opponent of immigrants because of Trump’s comments about criminal illegal immigrants, his demand for a border wall and his administration detaining illegal border-crossers and tightening the conditions for seeking asylum, in reality his stand is more nuanced with a distinction between law-abiding legal immigrants and illegal immigrants.
The rally gave him a stage to broadcast his welcome to legal immigrants.
Indian professionals now wait as long as 10 years for a green card that gives them permanent immigrant status.
Trump has proposed an immigration system similar to that of Canada and Australia that would favour professionals and the educated that would benefit Indians waiting to immigrate.
Whether his overtures to Indians – and through them to other immigrants – would make difference is another matter.
According to the Asian and Pacific Islander Vote survey, 82 per cent of Indian-Americans chose Democrat Hillary Clinton, while only 9 per cent were for Trump in the 2016 election.
Trump’s outreach to Indian-Americans by attending a rally of Hindu Republicans before the election did not seem to have made a difference.
In the US, a religion-based and ethnicity-based campaign is an accepted practice and that was the first time a presidential candidate had come to a rally of Hindus.
While they make up only about 1 per cent of the US population, Indian-Americans are outsize political donors.
According to another research, Indian-Americans have contributed $1 million to Trump re-election campaign and $2 million to various Democrats fighting for their party’ presidential nomination.
Top 5: Gaddalakonda Ganesh Is On Fire
1) Gaddalakonda Ganesh – Valmiki: Changing the title at the eleventh hour hasn’t affected Varun Tej’s mass entertainer Valmiki’s opening at all. In fact it went on to register the best weekend numbers for a Varun Tej starrer.
The film has collected around Rs. 13 Cr share in Telugu States in its first weekend and is likely to breakeven by the end of its first week run.
With no competition until Sye Raa arrives, Gaddalakonda Ganesh should make handsome profits with strong hold in B and C centers.
2) Nani’s Gang Leader: Mediocre content is the main reason for Gang Leader’s lackluster show at the ticket windows.
The film’s collections dropped after its first weekend and there isn’t much respite in the second weekend as well. The film has turned out to be a box office failure.
Vikram Kumar is yet to deliver a hit post Manam.
3) Bandobast: Tamil Superstar Suriya pinned high hopes on Bandobast directed by KV Anand. The film failed to get decent opening despite a stellar star cast.
It will go down as one of the most miserable flops in Suriya’s career.
4) Dream Girl: Ayushhman Khurrana’s Dream Girl is unstoppable at the box office. The film has done terrific business in its second weekend and is set to cross Rs. 100 Cr mark today.
It is the second film of the fastest rising star of Bollywood to breach this benchmark.
5) Prassthanam: Deva Katta’s Prassthanam has won the critical acclaim but the box office numbers have been disappointing so far.
It has collected around Rs. 3 cr nett in its first weekend in spite of a star like Sanjay Dutt playing the lead.
