‘Don’t compare Bigg Boss show with ANR Family’

Share

Noted filmmaker Tammareddy Bharadwaj found fault with Nagarjuna’s statements in the Bigg Boss show. In the opening episode of the show, Nag recalled his family gatherings when his father and legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao was alive.

“When father was alive, our family comprising of 30 members used to meet every Sunday. He gave a lot of importance to family and bondings. He values family more than anything and that’s why we have stayed connected even now,” said Nagarjuna and then referred to the Bigg Boss inmates. “We are 30 members and Bigg Boss has 15 members. Let’s see how they will stay together,” added Nag.

Tammareddy is not convinced with Nag’s this statement. “ANR is an icon of Indian cinema and comparing Akkineni family with a commercial reality show like Bigg Boss is not appropriate. ANR’s family gathering is to keep the members connected all the time whereas Bigg Boss is all about money and winning,” said Tammareddy.

He added that Nagarjuna should have given a second thought before saying so. “I wonder who is the script writer and I hope Nag would be watchful next time before reading out the script,” concluded Tammareddy.

#BigBoss3: Is Tamanna An Example Of Society?

Share

Bigg Boss 3 has surely stunned the audience by promoting gender equality by making transgender Tamanna Simhadri enter the house. But then, such contestants should actually live up to ethics and promote positivity. Otherwise, they will face criticism like a Babu Gogineni and get eliminated.

Sample this: Other day Tamanna She blasted Ali Reza like nothing else, calling him that he will never become a hero in Tollywood. “Eating tablets for white skin and spending time in the gym for a six-pack body doesn’t qualify you to become a hero,” she said on his face.

And when she was given a chance to express her unexpressed feelings, she spoke about the hardships she faced in life, how she went through the scrutiny belts of society before standing up to something in life including winning a transgender beauty pageant and contesting in the election.

And the hypocrisy part is when Tamanna faced so many hardships in life and so proud about her achievements, why can’t she understand that even Ali Reza might have faced similar hardships to become big in life.

As Tamanna happens to be a transgender, many inmates are not raising voice against her strongly, but she is making use of this vacuum to flaunt her tantrums big time.

Rakshasudu Movie Review

Share

Ratsasan was hailed as one of the best Tamil movies in recent times. It’s a taut thriller with engaging screenplay and excellently executed by director Ram Kumar. Telugu remake of Ratsasan is almost a frame to frame copy of the original. Rakshasudu has its share of flaws, but it engages nevertheless.

What is it about?

Arun (Bellamkonda Srinivas) is a wannabe director, who lands a police job. He uses his research done on serial killers to solve a serial murder mystery happening in the city. A psycho is on the loose who is brutally killing innocent schoolgirls. All that he leaves is the head of a smashed doll as the clue. Arun puts piece by piece together to solve the case.

Performances:

Bellamkonda Srinivas finally gives up on masala elements and action. He takes up a content driven script where he has to play a subdued cop unlike his previous larger than life characters. It is arguably the best character of his career so far and Srinivas has shown signs of an actor who is slowly evolving. He did well in emotional scenes, but still needs to work on his acting skills. Anupama has a very little role to play and she did okay within her limitations. The little girl who played Anupama’s niece is cute. Rajiv Kanakala got a meaty role and he has made the most of it. Saravanan as the villain is good.

Technicalities:

Director Ramesh Varma didn’t try to alter at least a frame in Ratsasan. Remakes can’t get faithful than this. Despite making a frame to frame remake of Ratsasan, the director could only deliver an average film as far as technicalities are concerned. He didn’t have that special eye for technical aspects and therefore Rakshasudu pales in comparison to the original.

Ghibran’s score is repeated from the original and it is top class. Probably the best in recent times. Cinematography is decent and the editing could have been better. Production values are average.

Thumbs Up:

Screenplay

Nail biting sequences

Background score

Thumbs Down:

Stretched climax

Excessive Runtime

Analysis:

Ratsasan has solid content that can stand on its own even with subpar filmmaking. The original was executed superbly and all that the remake director had to do is to copy paste it scene by scene. Ramesh Varma didn’t try to make the slightest of the changes to the original movie, which might not please the viewers that had seen the Tamil version of it. Rakshasudu is inferior to Ratsasan in all departments except the background score which is reused here.

Despite being an inferior product to the original, Rakshasudu will still engage its viewers because of its engaging screenplay and well paced narrative. It never goes off track and doesn’t play down on the violence portrayed on screen. It is not a film for faint-hearted. The crime scenes are not shown in detail, but we get the effect of it. Even the subplots like a perverse schoolteacher are shown in a shockingly disturbing yet effective manner.

The thrill factor is always alive and there are some intelligent twists and turns that keeps the audiences on the edge of their seats. However, there is a downside to it. The motive of the villain is shown before the climax and it wasn’t so effective. Also the film runs for too long after the villain is revealed. These are the minus points in the original film and the makers of Rakshasudu didn’t have the courage to alter the highly successful and acclaimed original film.

All in all, Rakshasudu would be an engaging watch for those who haven’t seen the original. It will thrill the genre lovers with its taut and engaging screenplay. But it will seem like a poor copy for those who had watched it in Tamil. All said and done, Rakshasudu is a far more better project from Bellamkonda compared to his recent outings. Would this be enough to fetch him that long-awaited success has to be seen.

Verdict: Carbon Copy!

Big Rumour: Sye Raa Shifting To Sankranthi?

Share

Already the Sankranthi fight got intensified with Allu Arjun fixing his film’s release and Mahesh Babu putting up his Sarileru Nakevvaru on the same time. And it looks like, these two films are going to face the major axe if Megastar Chiru takes the final call.

Due to the pending visual effects works, we hear that Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa is not able to come on said October 2nd date. And then, there are no big holidays or long holiday seasons in the next couple of months for this magnum opus to take on the box office. Reports are coming that Ram Charan is mulling over a Sankranthi 2019 release in case if the film misses out October release.

And with Sye Raa being made with such vast budgets, even distributors are said to be happy in case if the film gets postponed to January 2020. Because that will give them a holiday season boost to make the most of the investment as the film’s pre-release business is touching some all time record figures.

Meanwhile, if Sye Raa moves to this new date, we have to see who will occupy October 2nd and who will opt-out from Sankranthi eve.

#BiggBoss S03 E12: House Gets First Captain, But..

Share

At least someone makes some sort of sense in Bigg Boss house, but they don’t get any deserving position inside the house. That’s what happened with Himaja last night, but then, popular vote always goes to those who could swing the mood and never cares for goods and bads.

Last night Bigg Boss has given a task where the person who first touches a diamond will become King for the house until the next time buzzer rings. Varun Sandesh got the chance first and became King, and made HImaja wash clothes, Mahesh do cleanup inside the bedroom. Then Ali Reza became the second king and asked all the men to dress up as women and do a dance. While Varun Sandesh refused to do it, Tamanna called this a crap thought along with Jaffer.

However, Tamanna has crossed the limits by mouthing Ali Reza some sharpest words including that he could never become a hero in the Telugu industry and she will look to that. On the other hand, Himaja after getting hold of the diamond next time has stunned everyone by giving them a chance to speak openly and express their unexpressed thoughts. That’s an emotional scene we have to say.

Later when Bigg Boss asked to choose the first captain of the house among Varun, Ali and Himaja, 6 of them voted for Varun and 6 for Ali. To break the tie, Himaja cast her vote in favour of Varun and helped him become the First Captain of the house.

Looks like the house got divided into two factions already with Varun Sandesh and Ali Reza leading the packs. However, they should have chosen Himaja as she is the only female option, and also a sensible girl among the lot.

Prakash Kovelamudi, Kanika Dhillon Separated

Share

In a startling announcement, noted filmmaker Prakash Kovelamudi, son of senior director K Raghavendra Rao, and his wife and Bollywood screenwriter Kanika Dhillon announced that they have been separated since 2017. The ex-couple made the news official during a joint interview with a Bollywood portal.

Prakash revealed that Kanika moving back to Mumbai while he had made Hyderabad his base was the main reason behind their separation. However, Kanika insisted that they both are still very good friends and that they will be collaborating with each other in future.

Prakash married Kanika in 2014. They worked as a director and screenplay writer respectively on Anushka’s Size Zero and the recently released Bollywood thriller, Judgementall Hai Kya. Kanika wrote the scripts for recent Bollywood biggies like Manmarziyaan, Kedarnath and Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra. One.

No Match To The Competition

Share

In politics, a defeat is not necessarily the end of the road. Even the BJP and Congress were at one point of time relegated to single digit representation in Parliament from which they came back strongly. And that is because they managed to learn from their mistakes and change strategies accordingly.

Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP and Jana Sena received a severe drubbing at the hands of the electorate. It goes without saying that both Parties need to do some serious introspection, especially the Jana Sena.

The TDP of course had failed miserably when in power, giving priority to only one community and indulging in unprecedented corruption at the expense of the rest of society. But Jana Sena, the one-man-army founded by Pawan Kalyan was comprehensively rejected by the people which is synonymous with the public rejecting Pawan Kalyan and his personality.

Nevertheless, the power star seems to be continuing with his same listless statements like in the past.He once again said that he could have easily become a Union Minister if he chose but he decided to work for the people.Fact of the matter is: in the recent election, he had the least credibility among the people.

And, to put things in their proper perspective, Pawan Kalyan is clearly no match to the cunningness of Chandrababu, to the hard-working nature of Jagan, the ruthlessness of the BJP or the demagoguery of KCR. Simply put, he is an LKG student up against PhD candidates. The only advantage he has is caste: his community is the largest in AP but all the rest of society voted unanimously for the YSRCP which prevented him from becoming a king maker.

The biggest challenge is to present himself as a viable alternative to the current dispensation. That calls for a complete turnaround in both his personality and that of his Party which is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

But, until that happens, he is no match to the competition at all.

BJP plans to woo Telangana NRIs

Share

Bharatiya Janata Party which is going all out to capture power in Telangana in the next assembly elections in 2023, is planning to influence the voters in the state through non-resident Telanganites residing in different parts of the world.

Though NRIs won’t be able to participate in the electioneering in India directly, they play a crucial role in deciding the fate of the parties back home indirectly through various means – party funding, social media campaign and influencing the voting of their relatives back home.

That is why every political party has an NRI wing in the US and other countries and during the elections, they try to woo the NRIs through these NRI wings.

The BJP, too, is no exception. Though it is more than four years to go for the next assembly elections in Telangana, the party has started pampering the NRIs.

State BJP president Dr K Laxman said NRIs living in the US were inclined towards the BJP and they wanted to strengthen the party in the state.

“I have visited America; there NRI organisations and overseas friends of BJP had organised meetings and gave an overwhelming response to the party. They want to strengthen the BJP in Telangana. Many of them have taken BJP membership so that they can work for the party in Telangana. They take pride in the Modi government,” he said.

The BJP president lashed out at Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for dancing to the tunes of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

He alleged that it was Owaisi, and not KCR, who was running the government and not KCR.

“Owaisi had said once that the symbol of TRS party might be a car but its steering was in his hands, indicating that Telangana government is run by him, not KCR. This is because TRS revolves and runs around AIMIM agenda,” Laxman told a news agency.

Opinion: One striking benefit of bifurcation

Share

The Owaisi brothers, especially Akbaruddin Owaisi, can consider themselves very lucky that they are living in India populated by the peace-loving Hindus.Time and again, they have spoken derogatorily about Hindus, Hinduism and Hindu gods without absolutely any provocation.

Had they resorted to such kinds of remarks elsewhere in any other country, they would have immediately been cut down to size.Since they constitute the majority population in Hyderabad, they are under the impression that they are invincible as long as they are holed up in the Old City.

Provoking the Hindus repeatedly and not getting a response in return is probably being interpreted by the Owaisi brothers as a sign of weakness. They are making a serious mistake if they are indeed thinking along those lines.

Lord Krishna forgave Sisupala a hundred times before beheading him with the Sudarshan Chakra. It is precisely this same degree of tolerance imbued in the Hindu race. Therefore, the Owaisi brothers and their followers should not push their luck beyond a point.

Against this backdrop, the Owaisi brothers would be well-advised to remember the history of Hyderabad in 1948 when the State was freed from Nizam’s Rule.Nearly 40,000 of their community were killed before the Indian Army took control and restored normalcy. And Akbaruddin repeatedly keep asking for the police to be removed for 15 minutes. God forbid!

The MIM is now looking to expand its footprints across the nation and this clearly means more unrest and provocation. It is here that Andhra Pradesh can consider itself lucky.Following bifurcation, the nuisance of the Owaisi brothers and the poison they emit has been left to Telangana. And now, the onus is on Andhra Pradesh to ensure that the status quo remains that way and the venom of MIM does not seep into the State.

This will result in a peaceful Andhra Pradesh.
