Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, who was once hailed for his decisive leadership and resounding victory in the 2024 elections, now finds himself at the center of growing political controversy. Once seen as a dynamic and disruptive force in regional politics, Kalyan is increasingly being portrayed as a sidelined figure within the state’s administration.
A significant flashpoint emerged with Kalyan’s recent endorsement of Hindi as a primary language across South India. His statement, suggesting that people in the South should start learning Hindi, has triggered widespread backlash. Critics argue that this stand not only alienates regional sentiment but also reflects a departure from his earlier political ethos. Actor and activist Prakash Raj, who previously collaborated with Kalyan, went as far as to accuse him of surrendering his political integrity to the BJP and promoting its Hindi-centric narrative.
Adding to his woes, Kalyan is facing criticism from within the state’s political establishment. Leaders of the opposition YSR Congress Party, particularly former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, have publicly questioned Kalyan’s role in the governance of Andhra Pradesh. Dharmana claimed that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu holds the reins of power, with Kalyan playing a largely symbolic role. He further criticized the government for borrowing over ₹2 lakh crore without visibly allocating sufficient funds toward development, warning that the burden of public dissatisfaction could eventually fall on Kalyan.
As the state grapples with contentious debates—ranging from language politics to fiscal management—Pawan Kalyan appears increasingly cornered. With both political allies and adversaries casting doubts over his influence and intentions, the once-celebrated leader is now navigating one of the most complex phases of his political journey.
