A joyous mother is delighted by her son taking the top honour of the constitution of India. Narendra Modi constantly visits his mother who is in her last 90s. In the recent times, Modi has visited Heeraben couple of times. Right after winning the Lok Sabha elections, Modi sought her blessings.

Jagan Mohan Reddy takes oath as Andhra Pradesh CM

Vijayawada: Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday took oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh as thousands of his supporters lustily cheered him.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a public ceremony held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here and attended by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and DMK leader M.K. Stalin.

Jagan Reddy, who led the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to a landslide victory in Assembly elections, took oath in Telugu at 12.23 p.m., the auspicious time chose by his advisors.

The 46-year-old is the second Chief Minister of new Andhra Pradesh and succeeds N. Chandrababu Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered the worst-ever defeat in the elections held last month.

Jagan, as the young leader is popularly known, arrived at the venue, standing in an open top vehicle, greeting the crowd with folded hands and a big smile.

As he began taking the oath, there were loud cheers from thousands of YSRCP leaders and workers who had gathered from across the state.

He paused briefly after uttering his initials Y.S., apparently getting emotional on remembering his late father, who was popular as YSR.

After the Governor left the venue, Jagan addressed the gathering. Chandrashekhar Rao, Stalin and Jagan’s mother Y.S. Vijayalakshmi shared the dais.

Christian, Muslim and Hindu priests blessed Jagan on the occasion and prayed for his success and the well-being and prosperity of the state.

Vijayalakshmi turned emotional and broke down as Jagan took oath and delivered his maiden speech as the Chief Minister. Jagan hugged her and wiped her tears.

Son of Congress leader and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and hailing from Kadapa district of Rayalaseema region, Jagan was re-elected to Assembly from Pulivendula. He was twice elected to Lok Sabha from Kadapa.

Jagan had quit the Congress and floated YSRCP in 2011, one-and-a-half year after his father died in a helicopter crash.

Like YSR who became the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh for the first term in 2004, Jagan took the oath at a public ceremony and also signed the first file.

While YSR had signed the first orders to waive farmers’ loans and supply free electricity to them, Jagan signed the orders to enhance social security pension.

Addressing the gathering briefly, Stalin expressed his best wishes and hoped that Jagan will carry forward the political legacy of YSR.

Chandrashekhar Rao, in his speech, congratulated Jagan and the people of Andhra Pradesh for the landslide victory of YSRCP. He said the two Telugu states would work together for their mutual well-being.

He called for cordial relations between the two states to address all issues and ensure utilization of Godavari and Krishna river waters.

Jagan’s wife Y.S. Bharathi, daughters Y.S. Harshini Reddy and Y.S. Varsha Reddy, sister Y.S. Sharmila, brother-in-law Anil Kumar and other family members attended the ceremony.

Telangana Ministers Mahmood Ali, T. Srinivas Yadav, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and TRS MP K. Keshava Rao were also present.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday congratulated Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on being sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

“Congratulations to Jagan Reddyji on being sworn in as the CM of Andhra Pradesh. My best wishes to him, his new team of ministers and to all the people of the state,” Gandhi said in a tweet.

Andhra Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan administered Jagan Reddy the oath of office and secrecy at a public ceremony held at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada earlier on Thursday.

He will replace N. Chandrababu Naidu.

His party YSRCP won 151 seats out of 175 in the Assembly elections.

Pawan Kalyan In No Mood For A Comeback

Share

A section of media is trying hard to write off Pawan Kalyan as one time pony by spreading rumors that he is seriously considering re-entry into films.

As Pawan’s Janasena lost the elections pretty badly and also because Pawan couldn’t become an MLA, media is speculating that he has not much to do in the political arena as of now.

Few gossip sites went onto claim that Bandla Ganesh is in plans to produce Pawan Kalyan’s comeback film. They reported that Boyapati Srinu will direct the film.

They even fixed the remuneration of Pawan Kalyan as Rs. 40 crore and Boyapati’s paycheck at Rs. 10 crore. However, they turned out to be jokers as Bandla Ganesh rubbished the news as baseless rumor.

In fact, Pawan Kalyan is not planning to make a re-entry in film industry. He is determined to leave a mark in Andhra Pradesh politics and has decided to dedicate his full time for serving people.

Although Janasena couldn’t win more than 1 assembly seat in recent polls, it has made a significant mark in nearly 40 constituencies.

Modi congratulates Jagan, assures full cooperation

New Delhi: Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated newly-elected Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and assured him of full cooperation from the Centre.

“Congratulations to @ysjagan on taking oath as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister. I assure full cooperation from the Centre. We will work together to take Andhra Pradesh to new heights,” Modi said in a tweet.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan administered Jagan Reddy the oath of office and secrecy at a public ceremony held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and DMK leader M.K. Stalin were also present.

The 46-year-old Jagan Reddy is the second Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh after the state’s bifurcation in 2014. He succeeds N. Chandrababu Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered the worst-ever defeat in the elections held last month.

Jagan Sends Stern Warning To ‘yellow media’

Share

If YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has his way, bad days are ahead for media houses that had been blowing the trumpet of Telugu Desam Party all these years and are doing it even now.

Addressing the massive gathering of public after taking oath as the second chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan directly took the names of Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy and TV5, which are generally being considered pro-TDP media houses and warned them against carrying negative stories about his government deliberately.

“My government is going to bring in transparency in administration and ensure that there is no corruption at any level. Unfortunately, there are yellow media houses like Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy and TV5, which still feel Chandrababu Naidu should continue to be the chief minister. They will carry negative stories on our government,” he said.

Warning them against distorting facts, Jagan said he would not hesitate to file defamation cases against them in courts and request the courts to take stringent action against them.

“I will seek an appointment with the High Court Chief Justice and request him to provide one Judge for heading the Judicial Commission that will clear all contracts. We shall place all the documents pertaining to the contracts approved by the judicial commission before the media, including those yellow media. If they still write negative stories distorting facts, we shall not hesitate to file defamation cases against them,” he said.

In a way, Jagan sent a message to all the media houses that they should write only positive stories about his government and if they don’t mend their ways, they would face the music.

Jagan makes KCR pale with pension hike!

Share

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who took oath as the new chief minister of Andhra Pradesh at a grand function in Vijayawada on Thursday, made his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao pale by announcing the enhancement of old age pensions to Rs 2,250 per month.

Jagan put his first official signature on the file pertaining to enhancement of pensions for the old age people from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,250, as KCR who was sitting on the dais watched with amusement.

Interestingly, KCR issued orders only a couple of days ago on enhancement of pensions from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,016 with effect from June 1. This promise was made by him during the assembly elections held in December, after the Congress part announced doubling of pensions.

Even Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also announced before the assembly elections itself enhancing pensions from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 with retrospective effect from January, obviously to woo voters.

“For nearly four years and 10 months during the previous TDP government, the old age pensions were just Rs 1,000 a month. Even this amount they were not getting properly and regularly. Just two months before the elections, they increased the pensions to Rs 2,000 to garner votes,” Jagan said.

He announced that the old age pension would be paid at the rate of Rs 2,250 in the first year, Rs 2,500 in the second year, Rs 2,750 in the third year and Rs 3,000 in the fourth year.

Setting August 15 as deadline for the first step towards decentralisation of administration, Jagan said four lakh jobs would be provided by creating village volunteer jobs who will deliver the government schemes at the door step and they would be given a honorarium of Rs 5,000 each. There will be one volunteer for every 50 houses.

By October 2, Village Secretariats will be a reality as jobs would be created for 10 locals thereby employing 1.6 lakh more youth into the government fold who will ensure that all the government welfare schemes are being implemented without any glitches and they will be done looking beyond caste, religion or party lines and to drive out corruption. All applications will be cleared within 72 hours.

“The aim is to provide a corrupt-free government and see that all the welfare schemes would percolate to the intended sections without any interruption. There will be a call centre directly linked to Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) to record any incident of corruption or irregularity,” he said.

Secunderabad brings luck to Kishan Reddy!

Share

Secunderabad parliamentary constituency has once again proved lucky for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

G Kishan Reddy, who won the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 62,144 votes over the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, has been picked up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to induct him into the Union cabinet.

In all probability, Kishan Reddy will get a Cabinet post, rather than Minister of State rank berth. Kishan Reddy will take oath as a minister in the Modi cabinet at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday evening.

Kishan Reddy received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office in the morning asking him to be available at Rashtrapathi Bhavan by evening. Later, Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah also called up Reddy personally and congratulated him.

“With the blessings of people of Secunderabad and honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I will be taking oath as Union Minister at 7 pm today. I seek your continued support,” Reddy said in a statement to media.

Secunderabad is now third time lucky to get representation in the Union cabinet. Previously, former MP Bandaru Dattatreya was inducted into the Union ministry twice – once during the Atal Behari Vajpayee regime between 1999 and 2004 and later in the Narendra Modi cabinet in 2014. However, Dattatreya was dropped from the cabinet during a reshuffle later.

A three-time MLA till recently, Reddy lost the assembly elections in Telangana held in December 2018 with a slender margin from Amberpet assembly constituency in Hyderabad.

Despite his defeat, the BJP high command chose him as the party candidate from Secunderabad, denying ticket to Dattatreya. Reddy made a remarkable comeback by winning the MP seat with a huge margin.

Jagan begins to show his mark!

Share

Within hours of taking oath as the second chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday afternoon, YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy began showing his mark on the administration.

In the very step, Jagan sacked the top bureaucrats working in the Chief Minister’s Office including senior IAS officers Satish Chandra, Sai Prasad, Girija Shankar and Adusumulli Rajamouli, who were playing a very key role during the Chandrababu Naidu regime.

Orders to this effect were issued by Chief Secretary LV Subrahmanyam soon after the swearing-in ceremony.

At the same time, he issued orders bringing K Dhananjay Reddy as additional secretary in the CMO.

Dhananjaya Reddy had been working as managing director with the AP Tourism Development Corporation and is said to be a close a friend of the YSR family.

During the regime of Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, he worked as director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Advanced Research in Live Stock at Pulivendula.

In fact, Dhananjay Reddy had been looking after Jagan’s official activity for the last one week and his appointment as additional secretary was formalized after the latter took oath on Thursday.

Retired chief secretary Ajeya Kallam is expected to be appointed as principal secretary and will head the CMO.

Stop all ongoing works, Jagan tells officials

Share

Faced with huge financial crisis in Andhra Pradesh allegedly due to mismanagement of funds by the previous Telugu Desam Party government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu, YSR Congress party president and new chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy began setting the system right in the right earnest.

Before leaving for the swearing-in ceremony at Vijayawada, Jagan discussed the financial position of the state seriously with the officials and gave certain instructions.

Soon after the oath-taking ceremony was completed, Chief Secretary LV Subrahmanyam issued a series of instructions to all the departments.

He asked the authorities to stop all ongoing works immediately.

He pointed out that a number of engineering works were sanctioned earlier without any norms and some of them even by relaxation of FRBM (Fiscal Restructuring and Budgetary Management) norms resulting in a huge burden on the state exchequer.

“There is also a case for a thorough review of ongoing projects as priorities have not been followed. Since most of the works are financially unwise, all the departments should halt the works till further review is made,” he said.

All the works sanctioned prior to April 1, 2019, but not grounded are cancelled. In the second case, the works grounded but expenditure is less than 25 per cent of originally estimated value shall be reviewed afresh.

“No payment will be done in this regard before obtaining orders afresh from appropriate authorities,” Subrahmanyam asserted.

The chief secretary also directed the secretaries to adhere to the motto and clearly state that they have undertaken a thorough review of works and procedures in vogue. If Business Rules have been moderated or sacrificed, steps are to be initiated for obtaining orders for appropriate authorities afresh, he warned.

At the same time, he directed the Director of Works Accounts to issue instructions to all the Pay and Accounts Officers, Assistant Pay and Accounts officers to clear the bills subject to certifying the bills as per the new guidelines by the DDOs concerned.

Jagan already said that he would cancel all the tenders and go for reverse tendering. He also ascertained that he will establish the irregularities and corruption in the previous tenders given by the TDP government, before cancelling them.

TIME Magazine Now Says Modi Has United India

Share

After publishing a controversial cover photo and story called Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘India’s Divider-in-Chief’ in its pre-election analysis, the TIME Magazine now has published a cover story that says ‘Modi has united India like no Prime Minister in decades.’ The article with this headline is indicative of a complete U-turn by the magazine on its stance.

In the editorial, the writer Manoj Ladwa, asked: ‘How has this supposedly divisive figure not only managed to keep power, but increase his levels of support?’ and answered: ‘A key factor is that Modi has managed to transcend India’s greatest fault line: the class divide’. Ladwa also credited Modi’s emergence as someone who has unified his origins in a backward caste – which the western media deliberately missed.

‘Narendra Modi was born into one of India’s most disadvantaged social groups,” he explained. “In reaching the very top, he personifies the aspirational working classes and can self-identify with his country’s poorest citizens in a way that the Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty, who have led India for most of the 72 years since independence, simply cannot,’ Ladwa’s editorial mentions.

The writer also adds that Modi was criticised unfairly. ‘Yet despite the strong and often unfair criticisms leveled at Modi’s policies both throughout his first term and this marathon election, no Prime Minister has united the Indian electorate as much in close to five decades,” he said, referring to Indira Gandhi’s massive 1971 victory,’ he elaborates.

Earlier, the TIME Magazine’s cover story by Aatish Taseer, son of noted right-leaning journalist Tavleen Singh, wrote the story and indicted Modi as a ‘Divider’ of India. The cover story remained on all international editions, except the US edition. Going by its earlier pre and post-election editions, it looks like the media too will not be spared from scrutiny!
