LIVE UPDATES: Counting begins; trends show NDA leading

Share

The people’s verdict on who rules the world’s largest democracy for the next five years, will soon be known as counting of votes has begun for the general elections, held after the most polarised campaign the country has seen. Prime Minister Narendra Modi – whose BJP became the first party to gain majority on its own in three decades – seeks a second term in power in face of challenge from a re-energised Congress under Rahul Gandhi and 21 other opposition parties.

Exit polls have predicted that the BJP would retain power with a comfortable majority. The opposition has pointed out that the exit polls often get it wrong.

Elections were held on 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats and a party or alliance needs 272 seats to form government.

All Eyes on Vikram Lagadapati

Share

Vikram Lagadapati is not new to acting as he has already got name for himself with his performance as Anwar in Allu Arjun’s “Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India”.

Son of producer Lagadapati Sridhar, Vikram Sahidev Lagadapati is now testing his luck as teenage lead star “Yevadu Takkuva Kaadu”.

The film incidentally is remake of “Golisoda”, 2016 Tamil blockbuster.

‘Yevadu Takkuva Kaadu’ is releasing on May 24. It is coming in the direction of Raghu Jaya and it stars Vikram Sahidev as male lead and Priyanka Jain as the heroine.

The caption of the movie is ‘A story of Brave Heart’.

This is said to be a beautiful love story with raw characters. The film’s trailer is interesting and several filmmakers are eagerly waiting for its release as Vikram Sahidev’s acting and dialogue-delivery in the trailer got everyone’s attention.

If he clicks with this film, the industry would get a lead actor to make teenage dramas. So all eyes on ‘Yevadu Takkuva Kaadu’ and Vikram Sahidev.

Will KTR’s dream remain unfulfilled?

Share

More than anybody else, it is learnt Telangana Rashtra Samithi working president and Siricilla MLA K T Rama Rao who is terribly disappointed with the exit polls’ outcome.

Reason is obvious. KTR will have to wait for another four and a half years to fulfil his ambition of becoming the chief minister of Telangana.

All these days, KTR has been pretty confident that his father would move to national politics to play a key role in the formation of the new government at the Centre by floating the federal front.

Even KCR had made the calculations that the NDA might not get more than 200 seats and the Congress-led coalition would not cross 170.

The remaining seats would go to regional parties. So, he wanted to create a federal front with the help of these regional parties and play the role of a kingmaker in New Delhi.

Many times, KCR asked the people to bless him with powers to go to the Centre to play a bigger role in the national politics.

The very purpose of anointing KTR as the working president of TRS and not taking him into the cabinet is only with a plan of making him his successor on the throne.

Even if a situation arises when the NDA falls short of majority, KCR thought he would move to New Delhi to become a powerful cabinet minister and bring big money to the state.

But the exit poll results dampened the spirits of KTR, as they indicated that BJP will return to power with a comfortable majority on its own. In such circumstances, it will not run after smaller parties like TRS for support.

So, KCR has no chances of moving to Delhi and KTR cannot become the chief minister in the near future, unless of course if KCR volunteers to step down for the sake of his son!

Bookings Are Dead Weak For Seetha!

Share

Seetha is all set to hit the marquee on this Friday. The film has been making buzz across social media platforms with trending promos and other stuff.

However, the buzz is not reflecting on its pre bookings. Sita has been receiving lukewarm response on online ticketing websites.

The film is just a day away from hitting the screens and the bookings aren’t encouraging as of now.

People are entirely focused upon the election results tomorrow and in no mood for other sources of entertainment. Perhaps Sita would pick up from tomorrow evening after the results are out.

Seetha was supposed to release in April, but it was pushed to May 24 due to reshoots and delays. Looks like, they have opted for a date that is not so fruitful for openings.

Bellamkonda Srinivas’s recent track record also must be the reason for Seetha’s weak bookings.

Neither Kajal’s presence nor Teja’s brand seems to be working in its favor at the moment.

Sye Raa Eyeing At The Best Relese Date Possible

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s magnum opus Sye Raa filming is on the verge of completion. It will be wrapped up in a fortnight and Chiru will move onto Koratala Siva’s project from July.

Sye Raa is reportedly aiming at October 2nd release as it is the best possible date to make the most at box office.

It will come just ahead of Dussera in the hope of cashing in on the holiday season.

The release date has been updated with business circles that other producers are already planning their releases accordingly.

Allu Arjun’s film with Trivikram has been moved to Sankranthi and the release dates of other notable movies are adjusted so that there wouldn’t be a clash with Sye Raa.

The magnum opus is likely yo have solo release for Dussera as there are no other biggies hitting the screens in this year post Saaho.

With more than Rs. 200 crore at stake, Sye Raa needs such a window to recover its huge investment.

YSRC set to wrest power in Andhra with landslide win

Share

Amaravati: Dashing all hopes of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) appeared set to wrest power in Andhra Pradesh with a landslide victory on Thursday.

YSRCP was leading in 145 seats in the state’s 175-member Assembly while the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was ahead in 28 constituencies.

Actor Pawan Kalyan’s party Jana Sena was leading in two constituencies, according to information available with the Election Commission.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party was racing ahead across the state from the time the initial trends started emerging.

YSRCP also appeared to be making a clean sweep in the Lok Sabha polls as the party was leading in 24 of the 25 constituencies.

The results came as a huge shock to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who was not only confident of retaining power in the state but was hoping to play the role of kingmaker at the Centre.

In 2014, the TDP had bagged 102 seats while its then ally BJP had won four seats. The YSRCP had won 67 seats while two independents were also elected.

In the Lok Sabha elections held simultaneously, the TDP had won 15 and the BJP two seats. The YSRCP bagged the remaining eight seats.

The trends so far show that BJP and Congress are not leading in any of the Assembly or Lok Sabha seat. No change in fortune is expected for Congress, which drew a blank in the simultaneous polls in 2014.

BJP ahead in 4 seats in Telangana

Share

Hyderabad: In a jolt to Telangana’s ruling party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) which was hoping a clean sweep, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in four of the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

Overall, the TRS was leading in 11 constituencies but party President and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha was trailing in Nizamabad as D. Arvind of the BJP established early lead.

TRS senior leader Vinod Kumar was trailing in Karimnagar, where Bandi Sanjay Kumar of the BJP was leading by over 23,000 votes.

Soyam Bapu Rao of the BJP was also ahead with a margin of over 28,000 votes in Adilabad. BJP’s G. Kishan Reddy was ahead in Secunderabad, the only seat won by the party in 2014.

State Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy was leading in Nalgonda while All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi was leading in Hyderabad.

TRS, which had won 11 seats in 2014, was aiming a clean sweep by winning 16 seats, leaving Hyderabad for its ally AIMIM.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is heading for a landslide victory in the assembly elections and a spectacular performance in the Lok Sabha elections, leads from Andhra Pradesh indicate. Of the 175 assembly seats in the state, he is ahead in 150, compared to the 26 of the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

The majority mark in the assembly stands at 88. He is also leading in 23 of the state’s 25 seats. The Telugu Desam Party of Chandrababu Naidu is leading in only two.

For Chandrababu Naidu, who walked out of the NDA after last year’s budget, the outlook could be grim.

It was Jaganmohan Reddy’s push for the statehood issue that’s said to be at the bottom of Chandrababu Naidu’s move to part company with the BJP and join the opposition camp.

In view of Mr Reddy’s record-breaking padyatras, there were questions why the Chief Minister, despite being closer to the Centre, could not get the Special Category status promised to Andhra Pradesh during the bifurcation of Telangana.

Counting of votes started this morning for the 543 seats of the Lok Sabha. Early leads show Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP has crossed 300 seats.
