No Polavaram Reviews Till Results: EC to Chandrababu

Share

With so much criticism against the Election Commission doing rounds in Andhra Pradesh for a haphazard way of conducting polls in the state on April 11th, most of the citizens have been upset with the polling body. Now, the Election Commission has issued orders to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Chief Minister not to conduct review meetings on Polavaram Project apart from limiting video conferences.

Stating the Model Code of Conduct on the complaint of YSR Congress Party leaders, the Election Commission sent notices to the state government. AP Chief Minister held a review meeting on the Polavaram Project works as well as capital foundation works yesterday. According to them, some of the major works belonging to the Polavaram project should be completed before the rains hit the state. Hence, the work has been progressing at fast pace.

However, many are questioning how it would impact the results as these are regular review meetings. Political circles are rife with discussion about why the Election Commission is responding to every complaint of the YSRCP unlike never before. Also, the Model Code of Conduct making an impact after polling is finished doesn’t make any sense, say political observers.

What this means for the government is that nothing can progress and needs to be in a stand-still state until May 23rd. The state government is apparently unhappy with the move as it will bring every work and constructions in the state to a grinding halt!

Pic: Nag Is Fit, What about Rahul’s Wit?

Touching one of the best films like Manmadhudu to make a sequel to it, is a risky thing. Yet Rahul Ravindran managed to convince Nag on that. Looks like the team is preparing for the film very well and here is Nagarjuna stretching and sweating his muscles during workouts for the film between the shots.

Director Rahul Ravindran posted these pictures in an attempt to impress fans, but looks like he is missing the point that it he making a sequel of Manmadhudu, but not Mass. Well, Nag can look super fit anyway, but it all depends on Rahul’s wit.

Many of all the fans of Manmadhudu remember each one liner and dialogue of the film yet and Rahul Ravindran must be writing it very good, though matching the witty one liners of Trivikram is too far difficult.

It’s curtains for 5-time consecutive Lok Sabha winners

Four veteran politicians — L.K. Advani, Sumitra Mahajan, Kamal Nath and Yogi Adityanath — who were elected to the Lok Sabha on five or more successive occasions since 1998 will not be seen in the next Lok Sabha.

Thirteen political leaders who were MPs in 2014 had never lost a single Lok Sabha election since 1998. Now, seven of them are out of the fray while former Parliamentary Affairs Minister S. Ananth Kumar is dead.

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda, Samajwadi Party (SP) veteran Mulayam Singh, K.H. Muniyappa, Bhartruhari Mahatab and Anant Geete are the remaining five who are in the race to enter the Lok Sabha this time.

The political yatra for the 91-year-old BJP patriarch Advani, who helped take the party’s tally from 2 in 1984 to 85 in the Lok Sabha in 1989, has been denied a ticket from his seat Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

He represented the Gujarat capital in the Lok Sabha since 1989 except when he chose not to contest the 1996 elections over the Jain hawala diary controversy.

Congress leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has represented the Chhindwara constituency nine times from 1980, except in 1996-98 (11th Lok Sabha) when his wife Alka Nath was elected.

As he was sworn in as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister in December, his son Nakul Nath has filed his nomination from the Congress bastion.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged the Indore seat for the first time after Sumitra Mahajan was elected from there in 1989 — and remained undefeated.

However, the longest serving woman MP is not contesting this time, miffed over the delay in the announcement of her candidature.

Arjun Charan Sethi, eight-time Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP from Bhadrak in Odisha who defected to the BJP recently, will not contest this time. The BJP has fielded his son Abhimanyu Sethi instead.

Former Minister and seven-time BJP MP from Chhattisgarh Ramesh Bais has been shown the door by the party this time – on the age factor.

Ananth Kumar, who was credited with the growth of the BJP in Karnataka, passed away in November last year. He was a six-time Lok Sabha lawmaker from Bengaluru South since 1996. The BJP has fielded Young Turk Tejasvi Surya.

Another big name in the list of record-holders is Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The firebrand Hindutva leader was elected from Gorakhapur in 1998 and kept winning from there. He resigned from the Lok Sabha after the BJP took power in the state in 2017 to become the Chief Minister.

The BJD has replaced five-time MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani with former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency.

There are five members in the lower house with five consecutive wins who will contest this time as well.

Deve Gowda is contesting from Tumakuru, hoping to enter the Lok Sabha for the sixth time. He gave up his traditional Hassan seat to his grandson Prajwal Revanna.

K.H. Muniyappa, a Minister during UPA rule, has represented Kolar constituency since 1991.

Bhartruhari Mahtab is a five-time BJD MP from Cuttack.

Anant Geete, Union Minister and Shiv Sena MP from 1998, has been fielded from Raigad – the constituency he has represented since 2004.

Mulayam Singh Yadav has been winning every Lok Sabha election since 1998.

In 2014, he won from both Mainpuri and Azamgarh but retained the latter seat.

KCR made me heroine of the world, says Sri Reddy

Controversial actress Sri Reddy who created tremors in Telugu and Tamil film industries by exposing ‘casting couch’, ‘sexual harassment’ and ‘sexual exploitation’ of actresses by heroes, producers, directors and technicians in the industry, is all praise of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao for setting up a committee to address sexual harassment issues in Tollywood.

Responding to Sri Reddy’s fight against sexual harassment of actresses in Tollywood, CM KCR issued a GO (government order) setting up a committee, which will receive complaints and sexual harassment from the victims, conduct inquiry and recommend action against culprits to the government.

KCR has selected actress Supriya, anchor Jhansi, director Nandini Reddy, Nalsar University professor Vasanthi, Gandhi Medical college doctor Ramdevi, social activist Vijaya Laxmi as members in the committee.

Sri Reddy is elated over this and praised KCR to the skies for responding positively to her fight against sexual harassment of actresses in Tollywood and setting up a committee to address these issues and punish the culprits.

Sri Reddy said, “KCR has made me heroine of the world by setting up a committee to address sexual harassment cases in response to my fight against sexual exploitation of actresses in Tollywood. I will ever remain grateful to KCR for his concern towards women in the film industry.”

Naidu cheated Balayya’s son-in-law?

Share

Has Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister played a dirty game on M Sri Bharat, his own party candidate in Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency during the recent elections?

The answer seems to be yes, according to the talk doing rounds in media circles in the port city. The TDP chief was extremely reluctant to give the party ticket to Bharat, as the latter was a political novice without any recognition among the people and therefore, had little chances of winning the seat.

But, he was forced to give the ticket to Bharat under pressure from Nandamuri Balakrishna, his own brother-in-law. Bharat happens to be the younger son-in-law of Balakrishna. Apparently, Balakrishna argued that when Naidu’s son Lokesh (Balayya’s elder son-in-law) can get the prominence the party, Bharat also should be given the same prominence.

Everybody knows Naidu does not want any alternative power centre within the family. So, he gave the party ticket to Bharat but at the same time, reportedly sent secret messages to all the party confidants in Visakhapatnam that they should mobilise votes for Jana Sena Party candidate and former CBI joint director V V Lakshminarayana.

Even Naidu’s aide and minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao reportedly made his followers work for Lakshminarayana, instead of Bharat. As the campaigning progressed, Bharat realized that senior party leaders were not cooperating with him and that the party workers were secretly working for Lakshminarayana.

So, after the polling when it was evident that he is losing, Bharat quietly disappeared from Visakhapatnam. He switched off his phone and remained unavailable even to Balakrishna. He is learnt to have told his friends that he was cheated by his own party boss!

YSRC leaders reposing faith in AP police!

Share

Till the other day, YSR Congress party leaders had been saying that they had absolutely no faith in the Andhra Pradesh police officials, who they alleged, were acting like puppets of Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

After YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy refused to cooperate with Andhra police in the Visakhapatnam knife attack case, the YSRC leaders have stopped filing cases in AP on any issue. They were openly telling the media that they had no faith in Andhra police at all.

Instead, they preferred to lodge complaints with the Telangana police, as they were getting complete support from Tealngana government – whether it was Y S Sharmila’s complaint against social media groups, or IT Grids case or even the latest Lakshmi Parvathi’s case.

Now that the elections are over and there is every possibility of YSRC coming to power in AP, the party leaders have started approaching the Andhra Pradesh police. A couple of days ago, YSR Congress party general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijaya Sai Reddy complained to Tadepalli police alleging that he had been receiving life-threatening calls from Telugu Desam Party supporters. He even gave a few phone numbers from which he was getting threatening calls.

Sai Reddy alleged that he was being threatened not to speak or post anything against TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. “Initially, I did not pay much attention to those threat calls, but the calls were on the rise and were disturbing me. Some TDP leaders also threatened to kill me and I even have video footage of that,” he said.

There is a reason for Sai Reddy approaching the Tadepalli police station. Just a day before the polling, the Election Commission transferred the inspectors in Tadepalli and posted new cops, who are said to be closer to YSRC. So, Sai Reddy approached them!

After LP, Varma to make KCR biopic!

Share

Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma, who kicked up a virtual political storm by making a bold movie – Lakshmi’s NTR, on the last stages of life of legendary actor and former chief minister N T Rama Rao, has now turned his attention on Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Varma on Thursday announced making up of a biopic on KCR with a title: “Tiger KCR” and with sub-titles – “Aggressive Gandhi” and “Aadu Telangana testhanante andaru navvindru” (When he said he would bring Telangana, everybody laughed at him.” He posted the poster of the title and sub-titles on his twitter handle.

He explained that it was the biopic of K T Rama Rao’s father from the time he couldn’t bear the third class treatment being given to the Telangana people by Andhras and how he fought in a fiery way to achieve the Telangana state.

Varma went on praise the Telangana chief minister, stating that KCR was the only politician to successfully groom his children to be worthy of him, unlike the politician in the neighbouring state of Telangana (obviously referring Nara Lokesh, son of Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu).

“The most defining thing for a great politician is to create a biological and ideological legacy and that is where KCR is many miles taller,” he said.

Well, let us wait and see who he would choose for KCR and KTR characters in the film.
