New Delhi: Dinesh Karthik has beaten Rishabh Pant in the race to become the second wicket-keeper in the Indian team for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales.

The five wise men of Indian cricket, led by M.S.K. Prasad, met in Mumbai on Monday and picked the 15-member squad.

Much to the surprise of many, the selectors dropped Ambati Rayudu from the squad while Vijay Shankar was picked for the quadrennial extravaganza.

Vijay Shankar goes to the showpiece event as the number four batsman and Ravindra Jadeja has been picked as the third spinner ahead of a fourth pacer. KL Rahul joins in as the back-up opener.

While skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, M.S. Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah picked themselves on the back of some consistent show in recent times, there were three main areas of concern that the selectors needed to take a call on.

The much-debated number four slot, whether Pant or Karthik go as the second wicket-keeper behind MS Dhoni and finally, if the team will pick a fourth pacer or an additional third spinner considering that the wickets will be on the slower side at this time of the year in England has been answered.

The current Indian team management and selectors have often spoken about continuity and that is exactly what they have done with regards to the team for the World Cup.

Having tried Shankar at the top, they have backed him in the squad. The fact that Shankar continued to bat at number three or four in this edition of the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad was another hint that the team management had asked him to settled down to the idea of batting at the top.

Karthik has eclipsed Pant to the second wicket-keeper’s spot. Even though Karthik failed to do much in the 12th edition of the cash-rich league, the team management had already said they aren’t looking at it.

In the bowling department too, it was a case of backing an in-form Jadeja because not only has he done well for Chennai Super Kings, but also, wickets are expected to be on the slower side during the showpiece event. More importantly, Jadeja brings with him solidarity at the lower end of the batting and not to forget his brilliance on the field.

Pandya, having missed the series against Australia, due to issues with his core is back and fits in as the all-rounder who will also be looked at as the finisher.

While both Prasad and captain Kohli had made it amply clear that players’ performance in the IPL would not be considered, sources in the know of developments told IANS that it was indeed difficult to ignore some of the breathtaking knocks played by the likes of Rahul.

Polls over, but TDP-YSRC clashes continue!

Share

It has been four days since the high voltage elections to the Andhra Pradesh state assembly were held, but there seems to be no respite in the violence between the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress party in different parts of the state.

According to the latest information, a tense atmosphere prevailed in Nellore town on Monday after TDP workers staged sit-in dharna in front of YSRCP Rural MLA and present contestant Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy’s office.

They alleged that Kotamreddy supporters have attacked TDP leader Tirumala Naidu by following his car and also damaged the vehicle.

They complained to police that YSRCP workers under the directions of their leader Kotamreddy have made an attempt on the life of Tirumala Naidu.

When TDP workers including women begun dharna in front of Kotamreddy’s office and started slogan shouting, the YSRCP workers also rose shoutings against TDP.

Both the groups indulged in scuffling and police who were present tried to stop them. Later, they lathi-charged both the warring groups. The police took a few workers into custody.

In the last two days, similar reports of clashes were coming from other parts of the state like Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari, Chittoor and Anantapur.

Since the verdict of the people is sealed in the electronic voting machines, neither party would be able to influence anybody with such clashes.

Naidu’s tour against EVMs becomes a laughing stock!

Share

TDP chief and AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu’s so-called “Mission Delhi” to fight against usage of EVMs in elections, has become a laughing stock in Delhi.

Naidu stayed in Delhi for two days on Saturday and Sunday to meet Election Commission officials and garner the support of Opposition parties against EVMs.

While his visit did not evoke any response or create any impact, it turned out to be a ‘free comedy show’ to media and leaders of various parties in Delhi.

This is because Naidu himself claimed in his Delhi tour that TDP is going to come to power again in AP by winning over 120 seats out of 175.

Immediately, in the next second, Naidu claimed that the elections were ‘farce’ and EVMs were tampered to benefit YSRCP.

Naidu’s contrasting statements left media and leaders in Delhi in a state of utter confusion.

They questioned how can Naidu express confidence of TDP winning over 120 Assembly seats while at the same time accuse EVMs of being tampered to benefit YSRCP.

Naidu and his yellow media created a big hype on his Delhi tour saying that 22 national and regional parties have extended support to Naidu in his fight against EVMs and they all will attend Naidu’s meeting in Delhi on Sunday.

In the end, leaders from just five parties turned up.

They include Congress, CPI, CPM, SP and AAP. These parties hardly have any hold in any state at present and their presence in Naidu’s meeting could hardly create any impact.

To suit yellow media’s hype on the meeting, Naidu has booked a big auditorium in Delhi to hold the meeting with Opposition leaders and invited all the national channels.

The auditorium was empty. Only six leaders were on the dais with Naidu but the number of reporters and cameramen from media were over hundred.

Even media people were more interested in having a free delicious lunch provided at the venue than covering the event.

Row over Hyderabad BJP MLA ‘copying’ Pakistani song

Share

Hyderabad: Telangana’s lone BJP MLA Raja Singh landed himself in embarrassment after the Pakistan Army accused him of copying their song but he stood defiant saying he did not have to copy anything from a “terrorist state”.

“Good to see even #Pakistan media is covering my song #HindustanZindabad. I’m more surprised that even a terrorist nation produces singers. #Pakistani singer’s may have copied my song, we don’t have to copy anything from a terrorist state like Pakistan,” Singh said in a tweet.

Spokesperson of the Pakistan Armed Forces, Major General Asif Ghafoor, who in his tweet on Sunday had accused the BJP legislator of copying the song, responded to Singh on Monday, saying: “Pakistani media isn’t covering the ‘so called’ song. In rest of the world, this is called something else…”

“Glad that you copied. But copy to speak the truth as well. #PakistanZindabad,” Asif Ghafoor had earlier tweeted from his personal handle, ridiculing the MLA for replacing ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in the song with ‘Hindustan Zindabad’.

Singh, who represents the Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad, had announced that his new song was dedicated to the Indian armed forces and will be released on the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday. He had posted the video of his song on April 12.

A few hours before the legislator was to release his song in a procession in Hyderabad, Ghafoor tweeted that he copied it.

Singh’s video and Pakistani Army spokesman’s tweet went viral with many people on social media also sharing the original Pakistani song “Dil ki himmat watan… apna jazba watan. Man ki sacchi lagan… seedha rasta watan” sung by Sahir Ali Bagga.

The Pakistani song was released on March 23 on the occasion of Pakistan Day by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the Pakistani Army.

The legislator dropped his plans to release the song after it sparked the plagiarism row.

The team that is currently in their final stages of the shoot have reportedly roped in a 50-member Hollywood crew to bring a sense of newness to the action sequences of the film.

After ‘Baahubali’, Prabhas will be seen packing more than just punches with the team behind the ‘Transformers’ franchise taking over the action choreography for the film.

Said to be the second-most expensive film ever made in India, the action-thriller will release on 15 August.

It’s difficult for outsiders to get good roles: Rakul

Share

Actress Rakul Preet says it is extremely tough for an outsider to get meaningful roles in the film industry. But she is glad that she is getting a chance to explore her calibre with films like “De De Pyaar De”.

“I said ‘yes’ to the film because of my role. Let’s face the fact, it is very difficult for an outsider to kind of crack the film which has a great role for the girl and when you are an integral part of the story,” Rakul told IANS.

“When I heard the role, I was completely blown by it. I said ‘I will do anything to get this role’. I am extremely grateful that I am getting such a good response and people are noticing me in the trailer when it has two stalwart actors. I was overwhelmed with the response,” she added.

The film, a romantic comedy, also stars Tabu and Ajay Devgn. Written and co-produced by Luv Ranjan and directed by Akiv Ali, it tells a story of how a 50-year-old falls for a girl much younger than him, and what happens when she meets his former wife.

In the film, Rakul will be seen essaying the role of a girl from London.

On her look, the actress said: “My look is very different. When I got the film, Luv Sir asked me that to lose weight. The brief given to me was, ‘You need to look like Deepika Padukone from ‘Cocktail’.

“Considering I own a gym myself, I couldn’t say no. I had 25 days before I started the film and I lost about 8-10 kg at that point of time. It was a lot of work in terms of getting the look right.”

She continued: “I was training for four hours and there was a proper regime. I had to crash diet for a week and then build muscle. It was one month of intense training. It was probably the most hardworking month of my life in terms of fitness.”

“De De Pyaar De”, produced by T-Series and Luv Films, will release on May 17. Rakul hopes the “film creates the same excitement as the trailer”.

LP lodges complaint against TV5

Share

More than 10 days after prominent Telugu television channel TV5 telecast a report indulging in a virtual character assassination of Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi, widow of legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N T Rama Rao, she lodged a complaint with the police.

While a person by name Koti claiming to be a follower of Lakshmi Parvathi lodged a complaint with Vinukonda police in Guntur district, she chose to approach Telangana director general of police M Mahender Reddy.

Apparently, Lakshmi Parvathi felt it appropriate to file the case in Telangana, seeking action against the channel, as it headquartered in Hyderabad and had telecast Koti’s interview from the Telangana capital.

The report projected her in a bad light – that she is a woman without character, sex maniac and above all, she had no loyalty towards NTR.

The channel also highlighted the so-called WhatsApp messages allegedly given by Lakshmi Parvathi to Koti.

It also broadcasted an audio having a purported conversation between her and another person, in which she allegedly made derogatory comments against NTR.

She alleged that Koti was spreading derogatory and humiliating messages about her in the social media.

“I treated him like my own son and I never expected that he would resort to such cheap tactics, damaging my reputation. There is a big conspiracy behind it. I demanded the DGP to take action against Koti and also the channel which telecast it live,” Lakshmi Parvathi said.

But one failed to understand why she took 10 days to lodge a complaint against Koti and the channel. Had she come out in the open immediately, it would have caused huge damage to the TDP.

May be, she felt humiliated and went into a shell. Now that the elections are over, she might have mustered courage and decided to expose the TDP.

Same Target For Bellamkonda And Kajal!

Share

Director Teja is coming up with an interesting heroine oriented flick after the super success of his Nene Raju Nene Mantri. While he was supposed to direct NTR biopic, he is now coming up with Sita, featuring Kajal Agarwal in the title role and Bellamkonda Srinivas as the hero.

Releasing on April 19th, Sita got sold at 18 crores when it comes to the theatrical rights of the film. In recent times, Bellamkonda Srinivas never helped his films get past the safety mark at the box office. His last film, Kavacham, where he got paired with same Kajal Aggarwal, has got sold at the same price of 18 cr but has recovered only 4.9+ crores from the box office.

While the trailer of Sita sounded okay with the negative character of Kajal, how far audiences will like that version is going to decide the fate of this flick. While director Teja has made a dashing comeback with Nene Raju Nene Mantri, the major credit of the film went to the way Rana ran the total show.

Hope Bellamkonda will score the first big hit of his career, thereby making his producers swim to safe shores easily.

Interesting take on Chandrbabau’s majority in Kuppam

Share

Having represented Kuppam assembly constituency half-a-dozen times from 1989, Chandrababu’s victory here for the seventh time is a cake walk. But in the last two terms, the majority of Chandrababu came down and so once again there is a discussion about the majority because Kuppam result trend will directly fall on Chittoor Lok Sabha seat. YSR Congress party has put in a lot of efforts to bring down Chandrababu’s majority in this elections.

TDP sensed YSRCP work in doing damage to Chandrababu’s majority and planned different strategies. This time Kuppam reported 85.25 percent of voting which is 1.39 percent higher than 2014. With the polling getting registered such higher, the debate about Chandrababu’s majority in the constituency started. But whom will this increase in voting benefit is a million Dollar question.

On behalf of YSRCP, MP Mithun Reddy and Nagari MLA Roja constantly campaigned in Kuppam against Chandrababu. YSRCP claims that the increase in voting is anti-incumbency against TDP government and this will certainly decrease Chandrababu’s majority. But the TDP has rubbished YSRCP’s claims. ‘Pasupu – Kumkuma’ money getting credited three days before the elections and the welfare schemes being strictly implemented in the constituency, plus the past developmental works, will help Chandrababu to get 75,000 majority, is what TDP is estimating.

A total of 2,13,146 are eligible to vote from Kuppam constituency this time and out of the number, 1,81,712 have utilized their vote. So will TDP’s estimation turn right and YSRCP will succeed in reducing Chandrbaabu’s majority? May 23rd we will get to know.

Even Janasena Spent Money In Some Places?

Share

Apparently, Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan has impressed many citizens of Andhra Pradesh with his motto- money free politics. Sticking to that, he has distributed seats to people belonging to the lower middle class and poor as well. And then, many thought that Janasena is going to elections without buying votes.

But truth is that some candidates, who have feared to lose the election, are said to have distributed money without the knowledge of biggies inside the party. Reports are coming that while TDP and YSRC folks spent more than 2000 to 3K for a vote in constituencies like Eluru, Janasena contestants also felt the need to give at least something and they are said to have distributed around 500-1000 per vote.

After coming to know about these things, Pawan Kalyan is said to have got serious and warned those contestants for their wrongdoings. But political analysts are feeling that if PK threatens his MLA aspirants with arm-twisting classes, then they may migrate to other parties post the results. That’s what happens most of the time.

Well, for now all these speculations are heating up political circuits but the final blow will come only on May 23rd.

Whole Of Andhra Pride Now Back To Hyderabad

Share

With April 11th being a poll day and followed by a weekend, many actually took a holiday on Friday and went for vacations too. And some have gone to their home places to vote and returned back Hyderabad only on Monday morning.

Generally, few government employees like teachers and lecturers get summer holidays but not all the departments and not all the employees. However, this 4-day-break has excited many folks as they rushed to hometowns and to other vacations, to relax. Some of them are actually those torchbearers of Andhra pride as they wanted to vote in the election at any cost. For the same, they even went ahead to coastal towns and villages on their bikes, riding more than 400 kilometres from Hyderabad.

The stark reality is however that all the Andhra pride has now come to Hyderabad to go ahead with jobs and other businesses. That’s where actually many want the ‘change’ to happen with the swift construction of AP’s new capital. Because Amaravati’s rapid development might help them stay close in their own state rather than working in a neighbourhood state.

On the other hand, every Andhraite is eagerly awaiting along with their Telangana counterparts to see the result on May 23rd.
