Andhra CM, family members cast votes in Amaravati

Share

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu along with his family members cast his vote in the state capital region Amaravati on Thursday in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

Naidu, his wife N. Bhuvaneswari, son N. Lokesh and daughter-in-law N. Brahmani exercised their franchise at a polling booth in Undavalli in Mangalagiri Assembly constituency in Guntur district.

After coming out of the polling booth, they showed their inked fingers to the media persons.

Naidu and Lokesh said every voter should exercise his democratic right.

“It is the duty of every citizen to participate in the democratic process by casting his vote,” said Naidu.

Lokesh, who is making his electoral debut, is the party candidate from Mangalagiri while Naidu is seeking re-election from Kuppam in his native Chittoor district.

This is the first time that Naidu and his family members cast their votes in the new state of Andhra Pradesh. In 2014 elections, they had voted in Hyderabad, then capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

A couple of months after the 2014 polls, the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh was formalised with the creation of Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital.

People are looking for a change, says Jagan

Polling has started in Andhra Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections and Legislative Assembly elections for the single phase.

YSR Congress Party chief Jaganmohan Reddy and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu cast their votes in the respective constituencies.

All eyes will be on N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) while actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party can play the role of a kingmaker if both the TDP as well as YSRCP fail to gain a majority.

YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday sounded confident that his party will come to power in Andhra Pradesh as he turned up early at a polling booth in Pulivendula, his assembly constituency.

“I’m very confident, people are looking for a change, vote without fear,” said Jagan Mohan after casting his vote in Pulivendula assembly constituency, a YSR Congress’s pocket borough, in Kadapa district of the state.

YSR Congress chief said he is confident that his party will secure “majority on its own” in the Andhra Pradesh assembly election and emerge as the leading party in the Lok Sabha polls in the state.

Jagan Mohan led an aggressive election campaign against the Telugu Desam Party government of N Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh while hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress at the same time.

KGF Director Locks Tollywood For Third Strike

Share

One of the most talented directors the whole of India is right now looking forward to is none other Prashant Neel. His non-linear narrative of the film KGF became such a hit that though critics panned it, the film made crores at the box office.

With that super success, Prashant is being chased by not just star heroes but also big production houses. From Tollywood, we have the likes of Mahesh and Prabhas making their people meet him. While Namratha had consultations with him on behalf of Mahesh, UV Productions have dealt him for Prabhas.

But, it looks like KGF director Prashanth Neel took an interesting decision that he will be doing his third film in Tollywood with producer Dil Raju. While his second strike already started as the shooting of KGF Chapter 2 rolled out, the third strike falls here in Telugu cinema.

For now, they haven’t locked any particular hero but producer Dil Raju is said to have heard a couple of exciting storylines from Prashanth already.

Lok Sabha Elections: Nearly 30 per cent EVMs faulty in AP!

Share

Nearly 30 per cent of the Electronic Voting Machines turned out to be faulty in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, which is going to polls for both 175 state assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabah seats on Thursday.

Reports of malfunctioning of EVMs have been reported from almost all the districts in Andhra Pradesh due to technical snags. Though thousands of enthusiastic voters came to the polling booths well in advance, they could not exercise their vote due to technical snags.

Polling did not commence till 9 am at several places in Anantapur, Guntur, Kadapa and Kurnool due to EVM troubles. According to reports, polling did not start even at 9 pm in the following booths: Jammalamadugu (4), Atmakur (3), Madakasira, Kavali, Nellore city (2), Udayagiri, Uravakonda (7), Guntakal, Proddatur, Singanamala (6), Kalyanadurg (2), Darsi, Tadipatri (2), Yerragondapalem (7), Pamaru (3), Gurajala, Chilakaluripeta, Pedakurapadu (5), Vemuru (2), Parchur (2), Mangalgiri (9), Prathipadu (3), Parchur (3), Vijaywada West, Tadikonda (8), Ponnur (2), Chintalapudi, Eluru (3), Kakinada City, Tuni (5), Rajanagaram, Jaggampeta, Kaikalur, Kovvur (2), Prathipadu (1) and Nuzvid (2).

In Tadipatri, family members of sitting TDP MP J C Diwakar Reddy went back without casting their vote due to faulty EVMs.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Gopala Krishna Dwivedi himself could not cast his vote at Christianpeta Municipal High School in Tadepalli town in Guntur district due to malfunctioning of EVM. He expressed dissatisfaction over the election officials in the polling station for not taking enough precautions.

He told media that the faulty EVMs would be replaced immediately and technical teams would attend to any problems. If necessary, time would be extended to enable the voters to cast their vote wherever polling could not commence on time.

No Matter What, Nani Will Not Slow Down

Share

Consistency is not just about delivering more films but also impressing the audiences with most of them. If there is any hero who strictly follows it, that is Natural Star Nani.

Nani is saying that this year, he will start off with Jersey later this month, and will follow with Gang Leader release in August. If all goes well, his third film might release in December 2019 itself.

No matter what, it looks like Nani will not slow down and that makes Tollywood do well, because this consistency from a big star helps many families to survive as there will be less work-less days.

In the last couple of years, Nani is the only hero who managed to score at least a hit a year and then enthralled the audiences with 2-3 films. In 2016 he has come up with three films including Krishnagadi Veera Prema Gadha, Gentleman and Majnu, of whom two are super hits. Then he entertained with 3 films in 2017, Nenu Local, Ninnu Kori and Middle Class Abbayi. And in 2018, though his Krishnarjuna Yuddham and DevaDasu disappointed the audiences, his production venture Awe! was an average farer.

Guests & Guest Roles: Nagarjuna To Do It Again

Share

Among the present generation of heroes, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil are quite lucky that they have a dad like Akkineni Nagarjuna. That is because, unlike other superstar fathers, he always promotes his sons big time.

Sample this: The press-meets of Soggade Chinni Nayana have seen the three of Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, and Akhil coming up together, dressed in the same attire. And that type of promotion is done even at other events too. Now, Nagarjuna is making sure that they both present in his upcoming films as guests.

While we hear all this time that Chaitanya and Samantha are doing guest roles in Nagarjuna’s upcoming film Manmadhudu 2, the latest update is that even Akhil will be seen in the film. He will be doing a good 10-minutes length role in the second half of the film.

Well, what could we say other than that Nagarjuna promotes his two kids big time? And then, we have to see Akhil getting a good break provided with the push dad Akkineni is giving.

TDP activists go on rampage in several places

Reports of Telugu Desam Party activists going on rampage in several places in Andhra Pradesh, as the ongoing elections have become a do or die battle for the party.

According to reports, in Pedamogalayapalli village of Rapthadu assembly segment in Anantapur, the TDP leaders attacked the YSRC activists when they tried to prevent entry of unauthorised people into the polling station

In Mydukuru town of faction-ridden Kadapa district, one person injured, as TDP and YSRC activists clashed. Similar reports of clashes between TDP and YSRC workers at Gudem Cheruvu village in Kadapa’s Jammalamadugu assembly segment

In Uppalapadu village, YSRC activists attacked the TDP candidate Aravinda Babu.

A Jana Sena Party candidate was arrested after he damaged an EVM on Thursday during the polling in one of the polling stations in Gooty town in Guntakal Assembly constituency in Anantapur district.

Madhusudan Gupta, who is former MLA and contesting from Guntakal, threw the EVM on the floor at a polling station in Gooty. Gupta was angry with the polling staff for not displaying the names of the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies properly.

The police said he had lifted the EVM and thrown it on the floor. The machine was damaged in the incident.

Polling on for 42 LS seats in Telugu states

Share

Polling was underway on Thursday for the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while in Andhra Pradesh votes were also being cast for the 175-member Assembly.

Officials said 10.6 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the first two hours.

The polling process started amid tight security at 7 a.m. in all constituencies except Telangana’s Nizamabad where it began at 8 a.m. due to the presence of a record number of contestants.

Early voters started queuing up even before the polling centres opened.

Voting will take place in all 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and all 25 in Andhra Pradesh.

Chief electoral officers in both the states said tht polling was peaceful and smooth except at a few places where the process was delayed due to technical snags in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

They said all the voters standing in queues at the end of the scheduled polling time would be allowed to cast their votes.

The polling in Telangana will end at 5 p.m., except in 13 Maoist-affected Assembly segments under five Lok Sabha constituencies where it will end an hour early. In Nizamabad, the process will continue till 6 p.m.

In Andhra Pradesh, polling will continue till 6 p.m. except in six Maoist-affected Assembly segments. The balloting will end at 4 p.m. in three segments, and at 5 p.m. in three others.

A little over 3.93 crore voters in Andhra Pradesh are eligible to decide the fortunes of 319 candidates for Lok Sabha seats and 2,118 candidates for Assembly polls.

Authorities have set up 46,120 polling stations, of which 9,000 booths are considered “sensitive” — an official euphemism to mean they are prone to violence.

In Telangana, nearly 2.97 crore voters will decide the fortunes of 443 candidates including 25 women in the single-phase polling. The state has 34,603 polling stations including 5,749 “sensitive” ones.

Officials in Hyderabad were monitoring the process through web-casting from over 4,000 polling booths. In other booths, the process is being video recorded.

As many as 3 lakh personnel including about a lakh policemen were deployed to ensure free and fair polling across Telangana. Officials said they were using 79,882 EVMs besides 42,853 control units and 46,731 VVPATs.

The Nizamabad constituency will be entering the record books with a record number candidates and maximum number of EVMs. A total of 185 candidates including 178 farmers are in fray while 12 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in each polling booth.

The farmers filed the nominations to highlight their problems including lack of remunerative prices for their produce.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said since the mock polling in Nizamabad took two hours, the actual polling began at 8 a.m.

Chandrababu Naidu to file review petition on VVPATs

Share

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is planning to file a review petition in Supreme Court over counting of slips in at least 25 per cent of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines in every assembly constituency.

Naidu was speaking to media after casting his vote at Vundavalli polling station in Amaravati. His wife Bhuvaneshwari, son Nara Lokesh and daughter-in-law Nara Brahmani also exercised their franchise.

Naidu said he was upset with the reports that electronic voting machines (EVMs) had failed to function at several places in the state. “Right from the beginning, I have been saying that EVMs are unreliable as they were vulnerable to technical problems. I have been demanding that Election Commission should return to the ballot paper method, as EVMs can be tampered,” he said.

He demanded that at least now, the Election Commission should take a decision on conducting the polls with ballot papers.

To a question, Naidu said he was contemplating filing a review petition in the Supreme Court seeking counting of slips in at least 25 per cent of the VVPAT machines in every constituency so as to crosscheck the genuineness of the EVMs.
