Telugu filmdom isn’t male dominated anymore: Rakul
She is just a decade old in southern showbiz, but Rakul Preet Singh has managed to carve a niche for herself. The actress feels there has been a change in the Telugu film industry as it is no more patriarchal.
Rakul made her acting debut with the Kannada film “Gilli” in 2009. She subsequently made her Telugu debut with “Keratam”, later she has starred in Telugu hits like “Venkatadri Express”, “Current Theega”, “Rough”, “Loukyam”, “Kick 2”, “Sarrainodu”, “Nannaku Prematho”, “Dhruva”, “Spyder” and “Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru”.
Asked if she feels the Telugu film industry is hero-centric, Rakul told IANS: “Don’t you think the world is male dominated? I would put it that way and I don’t think that it is hero-centric anymore. Times are changing and there are good films. If you look at a ‘Baahubali’ which was such a big film, the whole thing is about Anushka Shetty’s character being so strong.”
Rakul then praised actresses Nayanthara, Trisha, Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt for doing some “superb” work.
The 28-year-old said the entire Indian film industry is evolving.
“I think on the whole the film industries across India are changing and there are better roles for women. And I think even in the past there have been. But when you look at the world on the whole I feel largely it is a male-dominated world, but I think things are becoming better now,” she said.
Rakul has also dabbled in Hindi films. She started off with “Yaariyan” as her first Bollywood venture in 2014, followed by “Aiyaary” and her next will be “De De Pyaar De”.
The actress believes there are “good roles” written for girls and she hopes to “crack a few of those”.
Over her journey in the industry, she has managed to work with southern superstars such as Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Ravi Teja and Junior NTR.
She describes working with all of them as “amazing”.
“They are amazing people. Charan, Bunny, Ravi Garo, they are all amazing people and each one excels. They are such amazing dancers. I always joke that they have no bones in their bodies and I think I am friends with all of them. They are very grounded and that’s what gets them the stardom they have,” said Rakul.
‘Bulreddy’ Item Song Hurts Reddys ‘manobhavalu’?
Director Teja is one of those finest directors in Telugu industry who is known for his anti-caste philosophies. However, in his latest film’s song, he has highlighted one particular community to the core and we wonder why.
Finally, the hyped item song ‘Bulreddy’ from the movie “Sita” that features Kajal Agarwal and Bellamkonda Srinivas in the leads, got released today. While the song is a masala number, it features the names of people who carry Reddy as a suffix. “Bullettu Meeda Voche Bulreddy.. Rajdhoot Meeda vache Ramreddy..’ and the song goes on like that. One wonders as to why Teja wants to showcase that Reddy folks enjoy with item girls in this way.
These are the days where ‘manobhavalu’ will get hurt easily for any simple thing and now that Teja has portrayed these Reddy boys as some lusting gang dancing after a hot girl, social media folks are wondering what will happen now.
On the other hand, the song scored by Anup Rubens is not an instant hit but might work in parts due to Payal Rajput’s glamour treat.

TV9 Ravi Prakash’s Talk With Modi Turns Controversial
Other day Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated TV9’s national wide venture TV9 Bharavarsh, which will be the primetime Hindi news channel. As TV9 Telugu, Kannada and Marathi are already in the top slots, this new channel is now competing with real biggies in the news business.
When Modi came to inaugurate the channel, apparently he’s seen and heard uttering, ‘few of your employees are actually dead against me that they will drink my blood’. In reply to this, channel’s CEO Ravi Prakash said, “badlav la rahe hain ji” (We’re bringing the change sir).
And these comments are now understood by opposition leaders and common audiences that Ravi Prakash is promising a shuffle in the employees as Narendra Modi didn’t like a few. However, in the same conversation, Modi added, “Let the poor souls live. If their soul dies, we don’t get any fun”.
While the opposition is going gaga over this talk, TV9 network employees are saying that Ravi Prakash is talking about the ‘change in journalism’ but not changing the editorial team.

In a shocking allegation, Nara Lokesh alleged that KTR has dialed 10 Telugu Desam Party MLAs of Andhra Pradesh and asked them to contest on YSR Congress Party. Accusing a strong nexus between YCP and TRS, Lokesh alleged that TRS is going all out to help YCP in the coming elections. Questioning the intervention of TRS into AP politics, Lokesh said the people of AP are observing the friendship between TRS, YCP, BJP and he is confident that the people will give a fitting counter to them.

Heritage Foods is mine, Naidu deceived me: Mohan Babu
Actor and producer Mohan Babu is continuing to target TDP chief and AP CM Chandrababu Naidu. In his fresh claims, the veteran actor said Chandrababu has back-stabbed whoever trusted him, first it was NTR and next it was me. “The Heritage Foods is mine and it has a history too,” said Mohan Babu.
Revealing more details, the Collection King said, “Me, Chandrababu along with one more friend have established ‘Heritage Foods’ and in that major investor was me while Chandrababu and the other friend’s contribution is very minimal. After a few days Chandrababu sent few blank papers to me and asked to sign on them. As I was busy actor those days and had no time for other things, believing Chandrababu, I signed the papers. Later I got to know that Chandrababu had snapped Heritage Foods and also cheated the other friend and investor.”
Then Mohan Babu claimed that he approached the court over this. “As Chandrababu is highly influential person, the case took ages and so I withdrew the case after my family and friends forcing me to do so. Not just me, Chandrababu even cheated farmers and government. He made few farmers buy the shares in Heritage Foods and later he bought all the shares from them. That way Chandrababu amassed huge wealth,” quipped Mohan Babu.
Defending his allegations, Mohan Babu said he is ready to debate on Heritage Foods anywhere in Andhra Pradesh and challenged whether Chandrababu will come and open about it.

Unsuspecting cops check Andhra police chief’s car
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Police personnel checked the private car of Director General of Police R.P. Thakur — not knowing who was the occupant.
The police chief was in his private vehicle on a surprise visit to Maoist infested areas near the Andhra-Odisha border on Tuesday.
While passing through Srungavarapukota Assembly constituency in Vizianagaram district, he found police personnel and other government officials checking vehicles as part of security arrangements for next week’s Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
They checked his vehicle too and only then Thakur praised the police and revenue officials for their work — and said he would be happy if the police checked his vehicle every day.
He said he would recommend the Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police to reward the officials who checked his vehicle.
KCR Doesn’t Want More MP Seats For Jagan?
Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who initially a big announcement that he would go all out to defeat the Telugu Desam Party headed by N Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh elections, has gone silent later.
The TRS leaders went to the extent of saying that KCR and other TRS leaders would definitely campaign for YSRC in the AP elections, but they backed out later.
And KCR, who had earlier predicted that the YSRC would get 20-22 Lok Sabha seats in AP, is not saying it now.
The TRS has remained silent even after Naidu started attacking KCR and accusing the latter of helping the YSRC financially.
Initially, KCR thought if the TRS gets 16 out of 17 MP seats in Telangana and YSRC gets 22 seats in AP, he would play an influential role in the Centre.
Since YSRC chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy does not have interest in national politics, he would give free hand to KCR to lobby for both the states in the Centre with 38 seats together.
Sources in the TRS said KCR does not want the YSRC to put up a big show in AP, at least in the Lok Sabha elections.
Apparently, he realized that Jagan is a hard nut to crack and if YSRC gets 22 MP seats, he would not surrender them to the TRS and allow KCR to play the role of big brother.
“All said and done, Jagan has an understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has fair chances of coming to power at the Centre again. If the BJP falls short of a few seats, Jagan will definitely extend support to it.
“Even if there is a possibility of a third front government, Jagan with 22 MPs in hand himself will play a bigger role, rather than allowing KCR to use YSRC MPs for his political advantage,” an analyst said.
So, KCR now wants Jagan’s tally of MPs will be less than 15, so that the latter cannot have an upper hand.
“He has been telling the party functionaries that the TDP might lose power in AP, but it would fare better in Lok Sabha elections by winning not less than a dozen MP seats,” a source said.
JSP promises laptop to students, pension to farmers
Amaravati: Laptops for all 11th and 12th standard students, pension for farmers, fishermen and artisans and Rs 10 lakh health insurance for every family were some of the key promises that actor Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP) listed in its manifesto.
The manifesto released on Wednesday for the April 11 elections to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha also promised annual investment support of Rs 8,000 per acre for every farmer, KG to Postgraduate free education, free gas cylinders and 33 per cent reservation for women.
JSP, which is contesting the polls in alliance with the Left parties and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), also promised that Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500 will be deposited in every housewife’s bank account in lieu of the ration supplied through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The party, which made 96 promises for all sections of society, vowed to build Andhra Pradesh as a model state. It unveiled programmes for development of all three regions – Rayalaseema, North Coastal Andhra and South Coastal Andhra.
JSP, which is making its electoral debut, also promised Rs 5,000 monthly pension for small and marginal farmers above 60 years and fishermen and artisans aged above 58 years.
Naidu Worried About His Own Win In Kuppam?
Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had been representing Kuppam assembly constituency in Chittoor district since 1989 assembly elections and he never lost his elections.
Such had been his confidence that Naidu hardly campaigned for himself in Kuppam in the previous elections and the people still voted for him.
Even when there were no elections, he had never gone to Kuppam constituency regularly, but since it is the high profile constituency, the official machinery does not let it to be neglected and takes up various developmental programmes.
But this time, Naidu is said to be slightly worried over his victory in Kuppam.
The anti-establishment wind has started blowing even in Kuppam and the people are said to be unhappy with Naidu for not coming to the constituency even once in a year. This anger might be reflected in the elections.
Sensing this disgruntlement among the voters through intelligence agencies. Naidu decided to focus on Kuppam, too, these elections. But being the party president and the chief minister, the TDP chief cannot tour the constituency extensively and ask for votes.
So, for the first time, Naidu has deputed his wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari to focus on Kuppam electioneering.
For the last few days, she has been regularly interacting with party leaders and cadre in the constituency through teleconference, monitoring the electioneering and also doing poll management.
She has been giving direction to the party leaders to ensure a huge majority to Naidu in the elections.
She also assured that any party worker can approach her from Kuppam or elsewhere in the state on any grievance and give suggestions for the development of the constituency.
