Elections Ahead: Telugu NRIs in race!

Share

Telugu Non-resident Indians who have made a considerable fortune abroad are queuing up at political parties’ offices in Telangana for Lok Sabha tickets. Telangana Rashtra Samithi, along with Congress, TJS and TDP are receiving quite a number of requests from NRIs who are interested to contest for Lok Sabha seats.

While political parties have still not finalized their candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, NRIs are trying their best to influence and lobby with these parties. Political parties believe that NRIs can mobilize their own resources with their contacts, rather than rely on parties for help and mobilization.

What is interesting is that some of these entrepreneurs had already contested during the Telangana Assembly elections, but lost to their opponents in Huzurnagar and Wardhannapet. Adding to this is a list of NRIs who have been spending funds for development of their own villages. There are several NRIs who are funding schools and education of underprivileged students, toilets in villages, construction of village infrastructure and other basic facilities. They believe their service deserves to be recognized and hence, are confident that they can run for the Lok Sabha seat.

However, there are only 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, which doesn’t give them much of a choice. Apart from this, heavy lobbying within existing party cadre and senior leaders are something that political parties face pressure from already. Considering these factors, NRIs may have bleak chances. But, their entry into the political system is definitely a good sign as some of them already have a track record of doing social service, which brings them closer to their people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Andhra Pradesh once again to address a public meeting in Visakhapatnam on February 27th. According to the BJP state unit, the meeting was scheduled for February 16th but has been postponed to February 27th due to his visit abroad.

According to the BJP leaders in the state, the Prime Minister was initially expected to visit Andhra Pradesh on February 16th, the same week when Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao were said to visit Vizag for the Kumbabhishekam to be performed by Swami Swaroopananendra Saraswati in Sri Saradapeetham at Chinna Mushidiwada on February 14.

The BJP state unit is working to finalise the venue for the PM’s public meeting. Sources say that BJP MP K. Haribabu and others had approached Andhra University administration to use the University’s ground for the meeting. However, in view of the ongoing academic session, the University management is said to have denied permission. However, the BJP state unit is expected to write to the state government seeking permission for the PM’s public meeting in Vizag.

Costly Lime Juice!

The day-long fast of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, including the expenses of travel and other services, costed the state government Rs. 11 crore. According to a statement released by the Finance Department, GO RT 215, stated that “the government is issuing a Budget Release Order for Rs. 10 crore towards meeting the expenditure of Hon’ble CM’s one-day Deeksha for transportation costs of the participants along with payment of other bills.”

The amount has been spent on hiring two special trains from Anantapur and Srikakulam for the participants along with their accommodation and local travel bills. Two days ahead of the CM’s Deeksha, the state government had released another GO which released a budget of Rs. 1.2 crore for the same.

Criticising the state government’s spending on the Deeksha, the Opposition asked about how the TDP government could spend Rs. 11 crore lavishly just for a day’s programme in Delhi. “Chandrababu spent 11 crs to have a lime juice in Delhi” said a YSRCP leader. Earlier, even the Prime Minister criticised the TDP for spending government’s money for party programmed. However, TDP leaders state that the day-long fast was a government programme which included various employee unions, social organisations which are demanding Special Status for Andhra Pradesh.

The protest in New Delhi by the Chief Minister witnessed a unity of Opposition leaders. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leaders, leaders from SP, TMC and Shiv Sena, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Supremos of NCP and National Conference, JD(S) Chief Deve Gowda and several other leaders expressed solidarity with AP Chief Minister for demanding Special Status for AP, along with his demand to fulfil assurances made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

Priyanka, Only Hope For Telangana Cong!

Share

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had made whirlwind tours of Telangana during the recent assembly elections, but his meetings did not make any impact on the electorate, who voted for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to power with thumping majority.

Now, being desperate to retain their identity in the coming Lok Sabha elections to salvage their prestige, the Telangana Congress leaders are pinning hopes on the magic of Rahul’s sister Priyanka Gandhi, who recently took a plunge into active politics by getting appointed as AICC general secretary.

According to reports, the Telangana Congress, which had won just 19 out of 119 assembly seats in the state assembly elections, is hopeful of wining at least five to six MP seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

However, in the given circumstances, it is not possible but the party leaders are of the view that if Priyanka can weave her magic on the people of Telangana, they can make it possible.

It is learnt, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee is planning to hold a massive public meeting with over five lakh people near Outer Ring Road on the outskirts of Hyderabad in the first or second week of March.

The PCC has decided to make a special request to Priyanka Gandhi along with Rahul Gandhi to address the rally.

They are confident that Priyanka’s arrival would rejuvenate the party cadre before the Lok Sabha elections. They are hopeful that Priyanka would definitely turn around the fortunes of the party in Telangana.

After suffering huge losses on NTR Kathanayakudu, the overseas buyer has bagged the second part Mahanayakudu rights for Rs. 1.5 Crore.

There was buzz about giving away the distribution rights of Mahanayakudu for free, but the makers started last minute negotiations with the buyers.

Harassment by lover led to TV actress’ suicide: Police

Share

Cheating and harassment by her boyfriend led to the suicide of Telugu television actress S. Naga Jhansi, Hyderabad police said.

Surya Teja was arrested for abetting the suicide and produced in a city court, which sent him to judicial custody for two weeks.

Jhansi, 21, who acted in TV serial “Pavitra Bandhan”, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her flat in Srinagar Colony on February 5.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Panjagutta) Vijay Kumar said the youth was arrested after Jhansi’s family members lodged a complaint, holding him responsible for the suicide.

The police investigations revealed that Teja had been pressurising her to quit acting. He also used to suspect her and had started ignoring her, which led to the actress going into depression.

Teja, who runs a mobile phone shop in Vijayawada, had come in contact with Jhansi in April last year. Soon their friendship developed into love. Jhansi had informed her parents in July that she wants to marry him. She had also reportedly stayed in Teja’s house for a week.

In November, Jhansi gifted a motorcycle to Teja on his birthday. Last month, Teja went to Jhansi’s house and told her parents that he will marry her only if she quits acting. Jhansi accepted the condition and was since then running a beauty parlour.

But Teja still continued suspecting her and used to pull her up for talking to her friends. For the last few days he had started ignoring her and was not even taking her calls.

The police probe also revealed that for five days before committing suicide, Jhansi was alone in the house and was depressed. She was shocked to learn that Teja was looking for another girl to marry.

The accused denied cheating on Jhansi and said he would talk to his parents about the wedding after the marriage of his sister.

Mahesh Respects What Naidu Has Done For The State, But: Namrata

Share

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s brother-in-law Jayadev Galla is TDP’s MP from Guntur. Recently, Mahesh’s uncle Adiseshagiri Rao quit YSRCP and joined the TDP. This led to several rumours that Mahesh will be canvassing for the TDP in the upcoming general elections in Andhra Pradesh.

While Mahesh is silent as usual, his wife Namrata has clarified the Superstar’s political affiliations in a latest interview with a national English daily. “My husband respects what Naidu has done for the state, but the progress of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is a matter of great pride for him. Just because he is seen with Naidu, it doesn’t make him a political figure,” said Namrata, putting an end to all the speculations.

Further clarifying the rumours about Mahesh campaigning for the TDP, Namrata said, “Mahesh is not campaigning for any political party. Nor does he intend to contest any elections or pursue any kind of political ambitions. He barely says a few words to me, where will he make big speeches on public platforms?. He is the most apolitical person I know.”

Calling her husband a thorough professional and a family man, Namrata said that Mahesh has no time for politics or anything apart from shooting for his films. “And any free time he has is family time. He doesn’t even step out to meet friends,” revealed Namrata.

Annadhaata Sukhibava: Babu To Give Rs 10k To Farmers

Share

Andhra Pradesh cabinet which met on Wednesday in Velagapudi, has taken key decisions. The cabinet has approved the ‘Annadhaata Sukhibava’ scheme which would provide financial assistance to farmers. Under this scheme, farmers will get Rs 10,000 per year. Also in this very month, farmers will be handed over the first installment of cheques.

A total of 76.2 lakh farmers will benefit under the scheme. But this scheme comes in combination with the central government proposed Rs 6000 for farmers which means, the state government will add Rs 4000. The government will pay the full amount of Rs 10,000 to farmers who are not eligible for central government scheme and also included the tenant farmers under the state government’s scheme. There are about 15 lakh tenant farmers in AP, said minister Somireddy.

But this ‘Annadhaata Sukhibava’ will put a financial burden of Rs 7,621 crore on the state government’s treasure.

The cabinet has also nodded for allotment of 30 acres land for journalists. At Rs 10 lakh per acre, the amount can be paid through installments. An initial amount of Rs 1 crore should be paid to CRDA and then the proposed land will be transferred under journalist society. The balance amount can be cleared in two years.

Talk: Huge Demand For Her Interview?

Share

Ever since NRI businessman and owner of Express TV, Chigurupati Jayaram got murdered, the one name that is doing rounds everywhere is that of Sikha Chowdary. This lady became the epicenter of many gossips, special stories and the total case itself though AP police gave her clean chit in that murder.

With this Pulivarthi Madhuri aka Sikha Chowdary becoming a hot name, many Telugu news channels actually tried to get a byte from her, but only one particular channel got that. After one top channel aired a negative story of Sikha, saying that these beautiful girls are spoiling their lives for the sake of luxury, this struggling channel managed to air her interview.

Though Sikha tried to give her own ‘innocent’ and ‘truthful’ version of the total story, the interview got mixed reactions. Cut to other channels, some are now said to be offering huge money to this lady to attend their channel for an interview and for a live debate.

However, with some of her lawyers advising her not to attend such TV debates where she might indulge in some tongue-slips, Sikha is not responding to these demands from Telugu channels, say reports.

Rythu Bandhu to be Shelved?

Share

If TRS party emerged victorious in the assembly elections, then major credit should go to the pro-farmers schemes. Among them is the Rythu Bandhu scheme which gives financial assistance to farmers which is Rs 5000/- per acre. With the scheme getting a phenomenal response, the central government has also initiated the process to implement it.

However, the ‘Rythu Bandhu’ scheme is temporary and once a farmer is provided with basic facilities for agriculture, it would be shelved. Well, these statements are made by none other than Telangana agriculture chief secretary Parthasarathy. He went on to say that this scheme may not last long. The day when a farmer is arranged the infrastructure needed for farming, this scheme will be withdrawn.

This statements of Parthasarathy have become controversial and TRS leaders are completely shocked by the senior government official’s words. The pink party leaders went in defence and added that this scheme will be not be shelved at any cost and questioned how can government official make such remarks on government schemes.

A total of 57,15,870 farmers in Telangana are getting paid Rs 5000/- twice a year by the government and just a day before the polling, the Telangana government transferred the amount to the farmers accounts. As a results, more than ninety per cent of the farmers voted for TRS party.

Having got to know about this, the chief minister’s office has asked for an explanation from Parthasarathy. But the chief secretary defended his comments.

Chevella MP ticket: Konda vs Sabitha’s son

Share

Just before the Telangana assembly elections, Chevella MP Konda Vishweshar Reddy resigned to TRS party and joined the Congress. He also met Rahul Gandhi and got assurance that he would be given the same Chevella Parliament ticket in the 2019 polls.

But things are fast changing in the Congress party. In 2014, Maheshwaram MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy’s son Karthik Reddy contested and lost. Now with Konda into Congress fold, there is an unseen battle going on for Chevella seat. Highly placed sources of Congress say that Karthik will be preferred and Konda is likely to be snubbed.

If this happens, it will be a huge shock to the ex-TRS leader. The only advantage Konda is carrying is he has the support of Tanduru MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy and ex Vikarabad MLA who is said to be playing a key role in the party. On the other hand, Karthik Reddy is really upset for not getting Rajendranagar assembly ticket and this time he doesn’t want to lose any opportunity.

So it’s Konda vs Karthik. Who will get the Chevella berth? Keep guessing!

Naidu suffering from Alzheimer disease?

Share

Only a few days ago, Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan met Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Nadu to give an explanation as to why he was contemplating changing the party.

Naidu tried to pacify him and assured that he would take care of all his interests. And after coming out of the meeting with Naidu, Amanchi said he was confident in that the TDP president would do justice.

But the tone and tenor of his language changed soon after he resigned from the TDP and met YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

He made strong allegations against Naidu, while saying that the only option for the people of Andhra Pradesh is Jaganmohan Reddy.

Stating that Naidu was indulging in dirty politics, Amanchi wondered whether Naidu was suffering from Alzheimer disease.

“He was the one who had praised Modi for granting special financial package to the state in lieu of special category status. When Modi started getting doubts over misuse of funds, Naidu took a U-turn and started demanding special category status,” he alleged.

Amanchi accused Naidu of deeply involved in casteism.

“He has no control over his administration and the party. I wonder whether he is running the party or somebody else,” he said.

Amanchi said all the so-called welfare schemes of the Naidu government were bogus.

“He is cheating the womenfolk with Pasupu-Kunkuma scheme, as he had miserably failed to waive the loans of DWCRA women. Now, people are convinced that only Jagan would be able to do justice to them,” he said.
