AP Chandrababu Naidu’s nephew Uday Kumar has passed away on the wee hours of Friday. The 43 year old, suffered a heart stroke and was rushed to Care hospital in Hyderabad. But his condition worsened and doctors were unable to give him the best treatment.Finally he was declared dead.

After getting to know, Chandrababu Naidu cancelled government events for the day and is on his way to Hyderabad from Amaravati. Uday Kumar is Naidu’s second sister Haimavathi’s son. The last rites of Uday are expected to be held in Hyderabad.

WASHINGTON: An Indian techie from Tamil Nadu was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment on Thursday on charges of a “brazen sexual assault” against a fellow female passenger inside a commercial airplane early this year.

Prabhu Ramamoorthy, 35, who came to the US on a H-1B visa in 2015, will be deported after he serves his sentence, a federal court in Detroit said as it sentenced the Indian national to nine years of imprisonment.

Judge Terrence Berge hoped it would be grave enough to deter others from committing similar crimes. Federal prosecutors had sought 11 years of imprisonment for Ramamoorthy.

“Everyone has the right to be secure and safe when they travel on airplanes. We will not tolerate the behaviour of anyone, who takes advantage of victims who are in a vulnerable position. We appreciate the victim in this case for her courage to speak out,” US Attorney Matthew Schneider said after the sentencing was announced.

Ramamoorthy was convicted in August after a five-day trial that was conducted before United States District Judge Terrence Berg. The jury deliberated approximately three-and-a-half hours before returning the guilty verdict.

According to the evidence presented at the trial, on January 3, Ramamoorthy had engaged in a sexual act with a female, while she was sleeping on a flight from Las Vegas to Detroit. Ramamoorthy was seated along with his wife, when he sexually assaulted his co-passenger.

During the trial, the government admitted evidence demonstrating that Ramamoorthy had digitally penetrated the woman sleeping next to him during the overnight flight. The sexual assault woke her up, she found her pants unbuttoned and unzipped, and sought help from the flight attendants.

The sentence was proof that the safety and security of all aircraft passengers was a priority for the FBI, said Timothy R Slater, Special Agent in Charge, Detroit Division of the FBI.

In recent years, a number of Indian nationals have been arrested or charged with sexual assaults inside a plane. The FBI says airplane sexual assault is a serious offence that is on the rise. FBI statistics indicate that investigations of mid-air sexual assaults increased by 66 per cent from 2014 to 2017.

That was in part due to increasingly “cramped, confined spaces; alcohol and drugs; fewer flight attendants; and dark cabins on night flights” — factors that “likely embolden offenders” — the FBI said in a recent report.

The cramped style of airplane seating can exacerbate trauma for victims. According to mental health professionals, victims who are violated in confined spaces feel even more helpless, vulnerable and powerless. Victims may also feel intimidated by the person sitting next to them since the seating arrangement means that the perpetrator is effectively blocking the victim from getting up, according to the FBI.

According to court papers, Ramamoorthy is from Tamil Nadu, where he grew up. His parents are farmers. He came to the US in July, 2015 after his graduation to work as an IT professional.

During his trial, Ramamoorthy presented himself to the court as a confused man stranded in America without English language skills despite his sophisticated technological job, federal prosecutors alleged.

“His lack of empathy and remorse should not go unnoticed by this court,” they argued, seeking nearly 11 years of imprisonment for him.

Even a small child from Andhra is not favorably disposed towards Telangana or the TRS in particular.

It is not the matter of bifurcation alone but rather the vitriolic language used by KCR against the Andhras that is the reason for this.

But four years down the line, Andhras are increasingly irritated at the opportunistic policies of Chandrababu Naidu that has seen him threaten to imprison those people who clamour for SCS. This was when he was part of the NDA.

Naidu had then said, “Is SCS a Sanjeevani? The ‘package is much better. Anyone who opposes me will be jailed.”

The same Naidu then started a ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’ against the NDA for SCS after parting ways with them.

And finally, the unkindest cut of all: entering into an alliance with the Congress Party which had divided the State! He has not fulfilled a single of his election promises either!

As long as Harikrishna was alive, Naidu completely ignored him as NTR was perceived as a threat to Lokesh but the same Naidu looked to cash in on the unfortunate demise of Harikrishna by fielding his daughter Suhasini in the Kukatpally constituency.

Poor Suhasini is an absolute greenhorn with no knowledge of politics and was merely used as a pawn by the TDP and yellow media.

But resentment among the Andhras against Naidu, and by association his community, has gone to such an extreme that other Andhra communities put their anti-Telangana feeling behind them to prevent Naidu from winning anywhere.

In Kukatpally, there are around 62,000 people from Kapu community who threw their weight behind KCR.

Prior to the election, Kapu leader Miryala Raghava Rao of Srikrishnadeva Raya Association said, “We will be holding a large public meeting on November 30 of our community in which representatives from Kukatpally, Serilingampally, Qutubullapur, Patancheru and Sanathnagar, where the number of Seemandhra residents is high, will be participating and extending support to caretaker minister KT Rama Rao.”

He further added, “The constituencies are being portrayed as dominated by citizens of Andhra Pradesh, but there are people from other states as well. Our community of Kapus, Balijas, Turpu and Munnuru Kapus will extend support to the TRS because there have been no law and order issues in the past four-and-a-half years. Even AP residents who own lands in Telangana were beneficiaries of the Rythu Bandhu scheme.”

Another Kapu leader Adusumilli Venkateswar Rao had said, “Because there are no jobs in AP, people are returning to Hyderabad because of the safe environment created by the TRS government. Even though Telangana leaders are criticising one leader of AP — TD president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu — it was being portrayed as if they are against all Andhra people. Naidu had AP-origin people in limbo by shifting base to Vijayawada. We cannot forget how they (Congress and TD) used leaders like Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan. In Kukatpally, they are targeting only one caste, but people of Seemandhra will block the minds of those leaders.”

And it is not the Kapu community alone that backed KCR. The Reddys and Muslims of Seemandhra in Kukatpally and surrounding areas also supported TRS.

As usual, for the Andhras, it is caste that has taken precedence over everything else although their reasons might sound justified. But Naidu is equally to blame for the current state of affairs.

Had he really focused on developing Andhra Pradesh instead of enriching his community with real-estate dreams like Amaravati and other Singapore-backed scams, people would have stood by him. They gave him a solid opportunity in 2014 and he has let everyone down badly.

Added to this, the political atmosphere of Andhra Pradesh spiraled over to Hyderabad and TDP rivals voted against the Party in Kukatpally and Serilingampally.

In 2014, all Andhra people voted united and voted for the TDP but in 2018, that unity is gone.

Kapus voted for TRS because they see TDP as a rival to their Jana Sena in AP and KTR also played a master stroke by saying he wished Pawan Kalyan becomes the CM of AP.

The Kshatriya community has always been pro-TRS since bifurcation and the Reddys would never vote for TDP anyway.

All these factors combined have decimated the TDP in its stronghold of Kukatpally and Serilingampally.

Looks like, MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has taken a serious note of Chandrababu Naidu during his political campaign in Telangana against TRS and MIM. Owaisi has stated that Jagan is his friend and he would campaign for him in Andhra Pradesh. Owaisi said Chandrababu Naidu would taste it soon. He said he would vigorously campaign in favour of Jagan in the areas where his community is densely populated.

This is a day after KCR had stated that he would give a “return gift” to Chandrababu Naidu who had made a failing attempt in dethroning him. Meanwhile, responding to a media question, KTR said that it is too early and let’s things settle down in Telangana. Responding to a question that when would he campaign in AP for Jagan, he said it would take some time and he would answer it later.

After breaking up with BJP, Naidu is hoping that the votes of minority would come in handy for TDP in the forthcoming election. However, Owaisi’s fresh challenge may put off Naidu’s plans.

Though Jr NTR did not campaign for his sister, he made an appeal to Kukatpally voters to elect TDP’s candidate Suhasini. If everything falls in place, Charan will bring both KTR, ruling party leader and NTR, who indirectly supported opposition party candidate, on one stage.
