Like they say, when opportunities knock your door, you should use them. But, most of the times, we are either pushing them out because we are not ready or we are dormant. Looks like Jana Sena Founder Pawan Kalyan too is in a similar quandary. Whether or not to take any political opportunity that knocks his door.
Even as rumours and speculation of Jana Sena choosing to go with different parties and forming an alliance have hit the news, Pawan Kalyan has clarified that he will go it alone this time in the upcoming State Assembly elections or ally with the low-lying Left parties. If one goes by his political appearances and work, he has restricted himself to Godavari districts. While he has held public meetings in various parts of the state, not having cadre on ground is a dampener for the party.
Without having done much on ground, Pawan Kalyan should have been smart in allying with TDP or the YSRCP. A pre-poll alliance with a party would have allowed Jana Sena to be a key decision maker and Pawan Kalyan to be a kingmaker in AP politics.
If he allied with the TDP, he could have asked for at least 25 assembly seats with an assurance of a one or two Cabinet berths for the party if TDP came to power. This would also have allowed Jana Sena to increased its party cadre and given an insight into administration. Similarly, if it allied with the YSRCP, it could have made similar demands and could have played a crucial role.
Making TDP or YSRCP rely on Jana Sena in the process could have been a great bet for Pawan Kalyan. Additionally, apart from Pawan and Nadendla Manohar, there is no second-level leadership in Jana Sena. This failure to create leaders apart from the top-level ones has also restricted the party from growing beyond the Godavari region.
However, going further, if Jana Sena comes out of its shell and works aggressively in the next 100 days, it could seize the opportunity of at least winning a few seats. While the TDP is still keen on Jana Sena’s support, will Jana Sena make a difference in the upcoming elections or will it be reduced to just another political party with noise, is to be seen.
