Mani Ratnam Remembers Sirivennela’s Lyric Magic
It’s well-known that many of Kollywood star director Mani Ratnam’s iconic films featured songs written by the legendary lyricist Veturi Sundaramurthy. The combination of Veturi’s poetic brilliance and A.R. Rahman’s mesmerizing music transported audiences to another world, creating timeless classics. Such magical collaborations are rare and hard to recreate, happening only in certain unique partnerships.
After Veturi, Mani Ratnam collaborated extensively with another legendary Telugu lyricist — Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry. Several remarkable films emerged from their association as well. Recently, Mani Ratnam fondly recalled his special bond with Sirivennela.
“Sirivennela garu would write extraordinary songs in a very short span of time. We used to jokingly say that we would ‘kidnap’ him to Chennai and keep him in a house where he had no world except for music. After Veturi garu, Sirivennela became my go-to lyricist for many of my films,” Mani Ratnam shared emotionally.
He went on to explain that Sirivennela not only wrote lyrics but deeply understood the characters and their emotions. “I would narrate the entire story to him, and he would craft the songs to seamlessly blend into the narrative. For him, songwriting was a passionate art.”
Speaking about Ponniyin Selvan, Mani Ratnam revealed, “I had requested Sirivennela to write the lyrics for Ponniyin Selvan. Since it’s a period film, he promised to study the language and style of that era before writing. Once the tunes were ready, I contacted him again. He asked for a few weeks’ time to work on it. Unfortunately, destiny had other plans, and we lost him before he could start.”
WhatsApp Adds Ads and Subscriptions to Updates Tab
In a major shift toward monetisation, WhatsApp has officially begun introducing advertisements and subscription options within its Updates tab—a move that signals Meta’s intent to generate revenue while preserving the platform’s hallmark privacy for personal chats.
Used by over 1.5 billion people daily, the Updates tab houses both Status posts and the newer Channels feature. Now, Meta plans to leverage these spaces for monetisation through:

Ads in Status: Businesses can now run ads within WhatsApp Status, enabling users to discover products or services and instantly connect with brands via direct chat.
Paid Channel Subscriptions: WhatsApp will allow users to subscribe to select Channels for a monthly fee, giving them access to exclusive updates and content from their favourite creators or organisations.
Promoted Channels: To help creators and businesses grow their audiences, WhatsApp will begin recommending Channels based on user interests and activity.
“These new tools are aimed at helping admins, organisations, and businesses grow on WhatsApp,” the company noted in its official blog post.
Importantly, these changes are confined to the Updates tab, ensuring that personal chats, calls, and group messages remain end-to-end encrypted—a core pillar of WhatsApp’s privacy commitment.
To tailor ads, WhatsApp will use limited contextual data such as a user’s location, language, and interactions with Channels. Users who connect WhatsApp with Meta’s Accounts Center may also see ads based on cross-platform preferences. However, the company has stressed it will not sell or share users’ phone numbers or scan private messages or calls for ad targeting.
Rajinikanth Praises Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa
Manchu Vishnu’s highly anticipated mythological film Kannappa is all set for its grand release. With the release date fast approaching, the team has intensified promotions to generate strong buzz across all languages. Recently, the film’s trailer was launched in Kochi, where Malayalam superstar Mohanlal graced the event as the special guest, helping the film gain considerable attention.
As part of his strategic promotional plan to captivate audiences across different regions, Vishnu has now reached out to Tamil cinema fans by involving none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. It’s well-known that Mohan Babu and Rajinikanth share a deep and long-standing friendship, frequently meeting whenever Rajini visits Hyderabad. Interestingly, this meeting coincided with the 30th-anniversary celebrations of the cult classic Peddarayudu, a film in which both Mohan Babu and Rajinikanth starred together. During this occasion, Mohan Babu took the opportunity to screen Kannappa privately for Rajinikanth.

“Last night, Rajinikanth uncle watched Kannappa. After the film, he gave me a tight hug and said how much he loved it. As an actor, I’ve waited 22 years for this hug. Today, I feel extremely happy and encouraged by his words. Kannappa is releasing worldwide on June 27. I can’t wait for the entire world to experience the magic of Lord Shiva,” he wrote emotionally.

KTR Faces ACB Probe Over Formula E Case
BRS Working President KTR, who originally spearheaded the Formula E race initiative during the BRS government’s tenure, now finds himself entangled in legal troubles over alleged financial irregularities connected to the event.
In this regard, KTR appeared before ACB officials today for questioning. This marks his second round of interrogation by the ACB in this ongoing investigation that has been active for several months now.
Reportedly, the authorities questioned KTR for over seven hours, covering a wide range of topics including his direct involvement in the Formula E project and the financial discrepancies linked to it. After the lengthy inquiry, KTR was allowed to leave.
Following the investigation, KTR headed straight to the BRS Bhavan, where he was welcomed by Harish Rao. A large gathering of BRS supporters had assembled at the party office, reflecting the tense atmosphere fueled by rumors that KTR might be arrested. As a precaution, police had imposed certain restrictions around the area, but ultimately, no arrest took place, and KTR walked out of the ACB office.
It is being reported that the ACB officials informed KTR that he may be summoned again for further questioning if required as the investigation progresses.
Rana Naidu 2 Fails to Impress Despite Clean Content
Rana Naidu, one of Netflix’s original Indian web series, has once again stirred up mixed reactions among audiences. While the first season faced heavy criticism for its excessive use of foul language, adult content, and vulgarity, the makers took the feedback seriously and promised a cleaner version for Season 2. However, the latest season, which premiered on the 13th of this month, has not been able to escape disappointment either.
Starring Rana Daggubati, Venkatesh Daggubati, Surveen Chawla, Arjun Rampal, and others, the second season steered clear of controversial content but fell short due to its sluggish narrative and lackluster screenplay. Soon after its release, negative reviews began flooding social media, with many viewers expressing their dissatisfaction.
One of the biggest letdowns for fans was the limited screen time given to Venkatesh Daggubati. Audiences expected him to play a more substantial role, but his brief appearances left them disappointed. Despite Rana Daggubati’s strong screen presence and the chemistry in scenes involving Surveen Chawla, the overall plot failed to keep viewers engaged.
Another factor contributing to the lukewarm response was the lack of aggressive promotion for Season 2, unlike its first season. Speculations also suggest that the content may not have been tailored to appeal to Telugu audiences, which further impacted its reception. Interestingly, Venkatesh’s absence from promotional activities raised eyebrows, hinting at a possible deliberate choice to distance himself from the project.
With the underwhelming response to Season 2, it remains uncertain whether the makers will proceed with a third season. Only time will tell if Rana Naidu will get another chance to redeem itself.
Dhanush Gets Emotional at Kubera Pre-Release Event
Kollywood star Dhanush is all set to mesmerize audiences across India with his upcoming pan-India film Kubera. Directed by Tollywood’s sensible filmmaker Sekhar Kammula, the movie features Dhanush alongside senior star Nagarjuna and national crush Rashmika Mandanna in key roles.
The promotional content released so far has received a phenomenal response. Songs like Poiyira Mama and PP Dum Dum have turned into chartbusters, while the teaser created a strong buzz. The recently released trailer has further heightened the excitement, impressing audiences with its promising visuals and gripping narrative.
As the film gears up for its grand worldwide release on June 20, a pre-release event was held in Hyderabad, graced by ace director S.S. Rajamouli as the chief guest. Speaking at the event, Dhanush praised Sekhar Kammula’s dedication and hard work, sharing how the director put his health aside to give his best for the film. He revealed that Kubera marks his 52nd Tamil film and his second Telugu film.
Dhanush also shared that Sekhar Kammula had narrated the story to him even before Sir was made. He described working with Nagarjuna as a fantastic and magical experience, recalling how he grew up watching Nagarjuna’s films and now feels privileged to share the screen with him.
Dhanush showered praise on Rashmika Mandanna for her hard work and determination in reaching her current stature. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the producers, stating that without them, the film wouldn’t have been possible. Calling Kubera a very special film, Dhanush admitted that Sekhar Kammula’s trust in him adds a bit of pressure as well.

Hanuman Junction Re-Release on June 28
The 2001 comedy-action entertainer Hanuman Junction, starring Arjun and Jagapathi Babu, is all set for a grand re-release. Directed by Mohan Raja, the film was a massive hit upon its initial release and went on to gain cult status over the years for its perfect blend of humor, action, and emotions.
Now, after more than two decades, Hanuman Junction is making a comeback to theatres on June 28, aiming to recreate the laughter and fun for a new generation of moviegoers while offering a nostalgic trip for longtime fans.
