‘Mother’ Sai Pallavi Fails To Attract Youth

Share

Sai Pallavi’s craze among youth needs no introduction. She is one of the fastest rising stars in South Indian film industry. Youngsters are crazy mad over her.

Sai Pallavi has set the box office on fire with films like Fidaa and MCA. No one can deny her role in the success of Middle Class Abbay starring Nani.

However, fans are wishing to see her in cheerful and energetic characters like Bhanumathi and Chinni. They are not interested to see Sai Pallavi as a melodramatic mother, which is quite evident with the reception for her latest film Kanam.

The film is a heavy drama based on mother-daughter sentiment. Sai Pallavi will be seen as a mother of a small kid in Kanam. It looks like dark drama where Sai Pallavi plays an emotional character.

Naga Shourya who has shined in films like Chalo also plays a passive character in it. So youngsters are not keen on watching it, which is why the film couldn’t make a mark with advance bookings.

It may pick up if it generates positive word of mouth from early shows. As of now poor publicity and dark theme of the film is restricting Kanam from getting a good start at ticket windows despite a popular lead pair.

The union government had last reported a GST collection of Rs 7.17 trillion for the first eight months since the new tax regime that subsumed 17 central and state taxes on sale of goods and rendering of services was rolled out in July. For the period ending March 31, 2018, the GST collection has been put at Rs 7.41 trillion, a finance ministry statement said.

The mere Rs 240 billion addition shown for March as against an average monthly collection of Rs 890 billion in the previous eight months indicated government desire to move to more current accounting methodology. At present, GST collections are accounted for only when returns after filed by the third week of the following month.

From 2018-19 fiscal year that began this month, the government is shifting to a cash basis of accounting where revenues accrued at the completion of a month would be taken on record. Accordingly collection for April is likely to be released on May 1.

At the end of March 2018, the Centre has Rs 200 billion in its cess pool, which will be utilised to compensate the states for revenue loss, an official said. Under GST, the tax levied on consumption of goods or rendering of service is split 50:50 between the Centre and the states. Such tax is known as Central-GST or CGST and State-GST or SGST.

On inter-state movement of goods as well as imports, an Integrated-GST or IGST is levied, which accrues to the Centre. A cess is levied on top of these taxes on sin and luxury goods which make up for the compensation kitty used to make good of any revenue shortfall faced by states on implementation of GST.

Exclusive : Balakrishna To Direct NTR Biopic

Share

After Teja opted out of NTR biopic, none other than Nandamuri Balakrishna is expected to take over the reigns. Balakrishna himself will be wielding the megaphone and the talks are in nascent phase.

Since Balayya is the son of NTR and has seen him very close, none other than Balayya could do justice to the film, say highly-placed sources close to the development. Balayya is also keen to take over the mantle. Since the film is biopic on his legendary father, Balayya doesn’t want to take any chances and wants to direct the film on his own. It is heard that Balayya has a complete clarity on how the film on his father should be and hence he has agreed to direct the film.

Balayya, who is also playing the title role NTR, will be bankrolling the film as well. The film is co-produced by Vishnu Induri and Sai Korrapati as well. The film will have MM Keeravani’s music.

Naidu brings patch-up between Akhila, AV

Share

At last, the two warring groups in Allagadda led by tourism minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and senior Telugu Desam Party leader A V Subba Reddy agreed to sink their differences, at least for now, and work for strengthening of the party in the constituency.

The two leaders on Friday met TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who took a lengthy class to both of them seriously. He told them that unless they resolve their disputes, it would be very difficult for the party to survive in the constituency.

“I will protect the interests of both of you and there is no question of doing any injustice to anyone. You leave everything to me and work together. Otherwise the party will be in trouble and that will lead to ruining of career of both of you,” he said.

Later, both Akhila and Subba Reddy addressed a joint press conference in the presence of TDP MLC Varla Ramaiah. Akhila said she would abide by whatever Naidu had advised her and work with seniors like Subba Reddy.

“Chandrababu Naidu is my godfather. I will sort out any differences with Subba Reddy and we shall work together to strengthen the party. I will fulfil the responsibility given to me,” she said.

Subba Reddy also said he would forget his differences with Akhila and cooperate with her in the constituency.“I shall follow Naidu’s suggestions in this regard,” he said.It remains to be seen how long both the groups would follow this peace formula.

Kanna In Second Thoughts Over Joining YSRC?

Share

Former minister and senior leader from Guntur Kanna Lakshminarayana, who was supposed to join the YSR Congress party on April 25, deferred his plan and joined the hospital instead with complaints of high blood pressure and exertion.

According to latest information, Kanna is in second thoughts over joining the YSRC. Though he had resigned from Bharatiya Janata Party stating that the party had done injustice to him, he could not join the YSRC on health grounds.

Though he is now said to be perfectly alright, he has not yet announced the date to join the YSRC.But sources said the reason for Kanna deferring his plan to join the YSRC was that he had received two phone calls from BJP leadership soon after it received his letter.

First, BJP president Amit Shah himself called Kanna and asked him to drop the plan. Within minutes, he received another call from BJP national secretary Ram Madhav, who was instrumental in bringing Kanna into the BJP.

Ram Madhav told Kanna that the party would protect his business and political interests and asked him not to take any hasty decision on joining the YSRC.

Though the former minister demanded that he should be made state BJP chief, Ram Madhav said the RSS would raise serious objection to it, as Kanna had defected from the Congress

“However, we shall give all respect you and give whatever position you want during the elections,” the BJP leader assured Kanna. It was only after that the latter had kept his decision to join the YSRC in abeyance, say reports.

Devarakonda’s Planning Is Bang On

Share

After giving two hits in Pellichoopulu and Arjun Reddy, Vijay Devarakonda is being careful not to fall into the star trap.

While planning his career carefully, Vijay is also playing supporting roles like in upcoming Mahanati. The film will also introduce him to Tamil and Malayalam audiences.

On the other hand, he also has a film titled NOTA in Tamil, which will also release in Telugu. In Telugu, his films make around Rs 20 to Rs 25 crore. There is little possibility for the market to expand any time in near future.

So, he is trying to get a foothold in other languages which will add another Rs 10 to Rs 15 crore to his market. In the past, other actors like Nani, Sharwanand, Sandeep Kishan also tried to make their mark in other markets. But they did not get expected success.

However, Vijay Devarakonda is being careful and making sure that he widens his base with Mahanati and NOTA. If the films work out in his favour, then the chances of he settling down as a south-Indian actor will increase.

Khushi Turns 17, Ratnam Meets Pawan

Pawan, who had already given hits like Tholi Prema and Thammudu before, attained star image with Khushi’s success. Incidentally, AM Ratnam had announced his Tollywood comeback project with Pawan Kalyan a few months ago. The film, which was rumoured to be an official remake of Ajith’s Vedalam, was supposed to be directed by RT Neason. However, the project was later shelved as Pawan decided to quit movies and concentrate on full time politics.

‘Achari America Yatra’ Movie Review

Share

The combination of director G Nageshwar Reddy and Vishnu Manchu is a successful one as they have delivered hits together.

The combination of Vishnu and Brahmanandam is also a hit combo. When they all teamed up for “Achari America Yatra”, it raised expectations, but the film was postponed several times. Finally, it is here.

Story:

Appalacharya (Brahmanandam) and Krishnamacharya (Vishnu), these poojaris do poojas and homams and that is their livelihood.

Krishnamacharya falls for the charms of America-returned beauty Renuka. After an incident, Krishna convinces his guru to head to USA to do homams there.

What happens when these poojaris land in USA forms the rest of the drama.

Artistes’ Performances:

This is not the first time that Vishnu is playing the role of a Brahmin poojari. His attire is good, but this time he has failed to provide comedy.

Brahmanandam is master in playing such roles. He once again leaves his mark with some good jokes.Pragya Jaiswal provides some glam show. The film has huge ensemble cast.

Technical Excellence:

Thaman has given ordinary music. Only one song is catchy. Cinematography and production values are rich. Editing is okay. Darling Swamy’s dialogues are mixed bag.

Highlights:

None

Drawback:

  • Story
  • Direction
  • Excessive action elements
  • Clumsy songs

Analysis:

Veteran novelist Malladi Venkata Krishna Moorthy wrote the comedy novel “Achari America Yatra” in 1990s. Based on this novel, the film is made with current USA setup. The novel was a fun ride. Sadly, director G Nageshwar Reddy has turned this comedy plot into an action drama.

Not that the plot has any scope for entertainment. Indeed it is a template storyline that has scope for good comedy. But the director has not employed any tricks to tickle our funny bone. No one looks for logic in these kind of movies, but director G Nageshwara Reddy went to the extremes in defying the logic.

The screenplay has no coherence at all. Half-way through the film, we realise that this is not a comedy movie, but action flick.

However, couple of comedy sequences involving Brahmanandam – Satya Krishnan and Brahmanandam – Prabhas Seenu provide laughs. But the laughs are occasional, fights are regular.

The director’s ideas are stuck in early 2000. The lack of novelty, not-so-appealing comedy moments make the movie a boring watch.

All those who wished to see another “Dhee” or “Doosukeltha”, will be in for huge disappointment.

Bottom-line: Yawning Yatra

Mega Family: Who Will Score Next 100??

Share

Proving that they could sweep box office even with unconventional stories, remakes and routine films, somehow the big stars from Mega camp are sounding very confident these days. Here is an interesting snippet about them.

Last year when Megastar Chiru turned up with the remake of Tamil Kathi as Khaidi No. 150, many have doubts if the film will work. Some media folks commented on their prime time shows whether people watch Megastar Chiru now or not. But the film stunned trade circuits and collected 100 crores share, a feat that hasn’t done by any other hero/film except the Baahubali.

When cinema lovers expected similar stunt from Pawan Kalyan, he has however disappointed them big time. Many thought that mega hat-trick will come through Agnyaathavasi, but the film didn’t meet the expectations and bombed big time. Earlier Allu Arjun’s DJ Duvvada Jagannadham also ended up collection 75+ crores but didn’t come any closer to 100 mark. People felt that the 100 crore target was achieved by Chiranjeevi only because that is his comeback movie.

And all those minds are pretty surprised later when Ram Charan simply scored a brownie with Rangasthalam. Making use of the Summer holidays, he made 100 crores share in record time and thus became the second mega hero to enter the club.

Now that Allu Arjun is coming up with Naa Peru Surya, we have to see if he will become the third hero enter 100 crores club when it comes to mega family.

If we include all other heroes, Mahesh will be the only other hero to enter 100 crores club (shares) if Bharat Anu Nenu fares well in the next coming weeks also.

Finally, Naga Shaurya Opens Up About Kanam

Share

Ever since he revealed that he had a tough time shooting with Sai Pallavi on the sets of Kanam, Naga Shaurya has been totally refusing to promote the movie. Naga Shaurya had alleged that he was hurt by Sai Pallavi’s ego and tantrums. He distanced himself from all the promotional activities of the film’s Telugu and Tamil versions.

Meanwhile, Sai Pallavi had clarified on a few occasions that she had never misbehaved with Naga Shaurya on the film’s sets. She even tendered an apology to Naga Shaurya and tried to patch things up. Even the film’s director AL Vijay had voiced similar opinion as Sai Pallavi. But Shaurya did not budge.

Many felt that Shaurya is wantedly staying away from Kanam as he had signed the movie when he was going through a down period, but didn’t promote it after he scored a blockbuster with Chalo. Kanam’s story majorly revolves around Sai Pallavi’s and her daughter’s characters.

But much to everyone’s surprise, Naga Shaurya has finally opened up about Kanam. This morning, as the film has finally hit the screens, Shaurya took to Twitter and announced that the film is releasing today and asked his fans to watch the movie. Not only that, he even tagged Sai Pallavi and AL Vijay’s Twitter handles in his tweet. Well, it looks like all is well in the end.

BAN Result: Mahesh Asked To Rework On Story

Share

Recently it came like a confirmation that Mahesh Babu will work with Sukumar after wrapping his next under Vamsi Paidipally’s direction. So what made Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s project to get delayed?

For starters, Bharat Anu Nenu got a decent talk and the huge promotions are helping the film mint big numbers, but Mahesh is said to be somewhat not-so-confident about the film’s result. He was little puzzled and tensed before the release, as the story and his characterisation in the film are unconventional.

Though BAN worked positively in the end, we hear that Mahesh doesn’t want to take similar risk yet again. For that reason he wants Sandeep to work on the story again. Because “Arjun Reddy” is also little unconventional when it comes to the story and characterisation of the hero.

On that note, Sandeep’s film with Mahesh is getting delayed and Superstar got other projects into the pipeline. We have to see if Arjun Reddy director will wait for a year for Mahesh or will make another film in the meantime after wrapping Arjun Reddy Hindi version.
