Post Budget: Investors Lose 10 Lakh Crores!
The Indian Markets were on a massive bull-run until the budget-2018 on 1st February. But, they are hit by three consecutive sessions in red.
From a peak of 11,130 points on 29th January, Nifty has fallen to 10,498 by the end of Tuesday session. Which means index is plummeted by 5.28%. Unbelievably, in this steep fall, more than INR 10 lakh crores of investors’ money has been evaporated from markets. Nifty companies like Reliance and HDFC Bank lost close to 10% of their market capitalization – in numbers, these companies lost close to 1.2 lakh crores capital in less than a week.
While the fears of LTCG (Long Term Capital Gains) tax, which was re-introduced in Budget-2018, triggered the fall on last Thursday – it has been extended by a vertical fall of US and global markets on Monday. In what can be called as a largest intra-day fall, DOW Jones (US Market Index) corrected by 1179 points (4.6%). What’s the reason? – Worry of rising interest rates by FED, concerns over raising rates and inflation.
Apparently, this plunge drove global indices and spread across the world. Coming to Indian markets, large-cap stocks – Larson & Turbo, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, TCS, Tech Mahindra and State Bank of India erased 2 lakh crores from the market.
If the global sell-off continues further, small investor would get wiped out and small companies will go haywire. However, market experts and economists see this fall as a good opportunity to enter the bull run in coming days.
Fortunately, US signaled a positive sign on Tuesday as the opening 500-point fall has been wiped out by investors and DOW witnessed a high of 367 points.
Too Much!! 50 Lakhs For Jigel Rani
Item songs in Telugu films are getting more costlier these days. Most of the times it is the heroines who are being part of these songs that are collecting hefty paychecks from producers. But to make sure that the film gets craze, Telugu producers are not going back from flexing their purses.
In the recent times, we have Kajal Agarwal paid somewhere close to 50 lakhs for the item number in “Janata Garage” which was termed as ‘special number’ by Koratala Siva. But now, a similar price is being paid to a budding actress in t-town who has just one single hit in her kitty.
All said and done, dusky siren Pooja Hegde was roped in by the makers of Rangasthalam for the much-anticipated item number in the film. She will be playing the role of Jigel Rani in this mass number where she will be seen in a half-saree avatar. Buzz is that she is being paid a whopping 50 lakhs to shake a leg with Ram Charan in this song.
One wonders why such a hefty payment to Pooja Hegde who didn’t even have that craze and stature of a Kajal Agarwal or Tamanna in that case. But to make the film look spicy and interesting, it seems like the makers of Rangasthalam want this fresh talent to showcase her glamorous side and they are not worried even if it comes at a big price.
Naidu Condition : Don’t allow Sai Reddy in PMO!
Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s main condition for continuing the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party is not fulfilling the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, but is that the Centre should not entertain YSR Congress party and its president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
While creating an impression that the TDP has been fighting for securing justice to the state in the budget, Naidu is learnt to have put a condition that the YSRC leaders should not be allowed to enter the Prime Minister’s Office. He reportedly told his party MPs to bring this to the notice of the Centre.
Naidu was angry with the reports that YSRC Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy was regularly seen in the corridors of the PMO and was meeting all top officials there.
Soon after the TDP MPs led by ministers Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Sujana Chowdary were called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his chambers in Parliament to douse the unrest among the party MPs, Sai Reddy also sent a letter seeking appointment with Modi. This terribly upset Naidu in Amaravati.
“It clearly shows that YSRC is trying to spoil all the good work done by the TDP and does not want any credit to go to the TDP. This is atrocious. Let us expose the YSRC leaders and keep an eye on the movements of Jagan and his agents in Delhi,” Naidu reportedly told them.
He is learnt to have asked the PMO officials not to entertain Sai Reddy.“He is desperately trying to bail himself and Jagan out of the CBI cases by lobbying with the PMO,” Naidu told the party collleagues.

After Padmavati, Manikarnika Becomes A Target
We have recently witnessed what proportion of protests “Padmavati”, a film made on the life of 11th century queen of the same name had to face from fringe groups, supported by some North Indian state governments. Going by the latest reports, another historical film based on a queen might engulf in similar controversy.
A historical film titled “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” is currently being made on the life of Lakshmi Bai, the 19th century queen and freedom fighter. Starring Kangana Ranaut in titular role, the period drama is being directed by Telugu filmmaker, Krish.
While the film is currently under production, Sarva Brahman Mahasabha (SBM) – a Brahmin group from Rajasthan has threatened the makers to disrupt the film’s shooting.
The organization’s president said that they had reliable information that Ranaut’s character would be shown having a romantic affair with a British officer, and demanded the makers to remove those portions. He added that those scenes would dampen the queen’s reputation.
“We have already sent a letter to the producer of ‘Manikarnika’, outlining our objections as well as warning upfront if our demands aren’t met,” he added.
Unsurprisingly, Rajput Karni Sena has announced their support to the Brahman group, which had previously supported the anti-Padmaavat protests staged by Karni Sena.
Rational film buffs hope ‘Manikarnika’ doesn’t face the fate similar to that of Deepika Padukone’s historical magnum opus.
