Thug Life Pre-Bookings Dull So Far, PVR and Inox Yet to Start

Share

Thug Life, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, and Trisha in lead roles, is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5th. Pre-bookings for the film began yesterday across several major centers in Tamil Nadu. However, notable exhibitors such as the PVR and Inox cinema chains have yet to open their booking windows.

Initial reports from the Book My Show platform indicate that Thug Life has generated some interest, trending with approximately 3,500 tickets booked per hour. Despite this, overall booking numbers remain subdued. Trade experts observing the trend have pointed out that, although the film enjoys strong pre-release buzz, ticket sales in major Chennai centers appear lackluster. Comparatively, Mani Ratnam’s previous project, Indian 2, registered stronger pre-booking figures during a similar period.

With two days remaining until release, industry insiders expect PVR and Inox to commence their bookings imminently, which is likely to boost overall pre-booking volumes across Tamil Nadu. Given the film’s high-profile cast and the director’s reputation, Thug Life carries significant expectations among audiences and industry watchers alike.

As the release date approaches, the key focus will be on how the film performs at the box office and whether it meets the considerable anticipation surrounding it. The coming days will be crucial in determining if Thug Life can convert its pre-release buzz into blockbuster success on June 5th.

Hombale Films’ Ambitious Lineup Faces Challenges Ahead

Share

Hombale Films, renowned for its blockbuster franchise KGF, is once again capturing the industry’s attention with a slate of high-profile projects that promise to deliver action, spectacle, and star power. The studio’s upcoming release, Kantara: Chapter 1, is scheduled for October 2, 2025, serving as a prequel to the highly successful 2022 film Kantara. Directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, the film delves into ancient folklore and the mystical world of the Kadamba dynasty. With Shetty’s extensive training in traditional martial arts such as Kalaripayattu, expectations are high for an authentic and compelling cinematic experience.

Following this, Hombale Films is set to produce Salaar Part 2: Shouryanga Parvam, starring Prabhas. This marks the start of a three-film collaboration between the actor and the production house, promising a continuation of power-packed content. However, Salaar 2 currently faces uncertainties due to Prabhas’s commitments to multiple large-scale projects, including Raja Saab, Fauji, and Spirit, potentially delaying its production timeline.

In addition, Hombale Films has announced an untitled project featuring Hrithik Roshan, marking his debut collaboration with the studio. Though details remain under wraps, Hrithik has described the venture as a massive cinematic experience with a pan-India scope, generating considerable buzz.

Despite the promising lineup, challenges persist. Reports indicate that Kantara: Chapter 1 has encountered production difficulties, including tragic incidents on set that may affect its planned release. Furthermore, while Salaar Part 1 performed moderately well at the box office, it fell short of blockbuster expectations, adding to the uncertainty surrounding its sequel.

As Hombale Films navigates these hurdles, the industry awaits further announcements on their evolving slate, which continues to emphasize pan-India appeal and high-impact storytelling.

UNSC Deadlock Over Terror Panel Chairs Amid Pakistan’s Controversial Bid

Share

+The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is facing an unusual leadership vacuum in its key counterterrorism committees, with the positions remaining unfilled halfway through the year. The stalemate has arisen due to Pakistan’s persistent efforts to secure the chairmanship of one or more of the three influential committees: the Counterterrorism Committee (CTC), the 1267 Sanctions Committee on al-Qaeda and ISIL, and the 1988 Sanctions Committee on the Taliban.

Diplomatic sources indicate that several Western nations on the Council have strongly opposed Pakistan’s candidacy for any of the chair positions. The primary concern cited is a conflict of interest, given Pakistan’s alleged history of harboring terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, as well as the presence of sanctioned individuals and entities within its territory. Moreover, Pakistan’s complex and often adversarial relationship with the Taliban regime in neighboring Afghanistan has further undermined its claim to impartial leadership, particularly over the 1988 Committee.

Consensus decision-making, a key procedural principle within the Council, has allowed Pakistan—currently serving as a non-permanent elected member—to block the appointment of new chairs. In the absence of consensus, leadership of the committees temporarily falls under the jurisdiction of the country holding the Council’s rotating presidency. With Pakistan set to assume the rotating presidency in July, it is poised to take interim control of all three panels by default, heightening tensions among Council members.

Greece’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Evangelos Sekeris—who held the Council presidency last month—acknowledged the deadlock, stating that discussions are ongoing to resolve the impasse. However, the informal nature of these negotiations has made progress slow and uncertain.

Pakistan’s current push includes a bid for at least the chair of the 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee. Officials in Islamabad reportedly see this as an opportunity to influence developments in Afghanistan, including the ability to advocate for tightening or relaxing sanctions based on Pakistan’s strategic interests. However, given its strained ties with the Taliban and its domestic challenges related to cross-border militancy, the proposal remains contentious.

The precedent set by India during its 2020–2022 term on the Council is also influencing deliberations. India chaired the Counterterrorism Committee and notably held a high-profile meeting in Mumbai at the sites of the 2008 terror attacks perpetrated by Pakistan-based militants—an event cited by opponents of Pakistan’s bid to highlight potential conflicts of interest.

With no resolution yet in sight, the credibility and operational effectiveness of the Security Council’s counterterrorism architecture risk being compromised. The coming weeks will be critical as members continue behind-the-scenes negotiations to break the impasse and ensure leadership continuity in these vital committees.

Meta Automates Risk Reviews with AI, Sparking Safety Concerns

Share

Meta is poised to fundamentally change how it evaluates the risks associated with new features and product updates across its platforms. According to internal documents obtained by NPR, the tech giant plans to automate up to 90% of its internal risk assessments using artificial intelligence, marking a significant departure from its decade-long reliance on human-led “privacy and integrity reviews.”

Traditionally, these human-led reviews have played a critical role in safeguarding user privacy, protecting minors, and preventing the spread of misinformation and harmful content. Under the new model, product teams will complete a structured questionnaire and receive instant, AI-generated feedback. The system will either greenlight the update or provide specific compliance requirements for the team to address through self-verification.

Meta asserts that the shift will streamline product development, enabling engineers to focus more on innovation while reserving human oversight for “novel and complex issues.” The company also emphasizes that the change reallocates human reviewer capacity to focus on higher-risk areas more likely to violate its policies.

However, internal concerns have emerged regarding the scope of AI’s role in reviewing sensitive areas, including AI safety, youth protection, and moderation of violent content. Some employees fear that this reduction in human oversight could increase the likelihood of real-world harm.

“Insofar as this process functionally means more stuff launching faster, with less rigorous scrutiny and opposition, it means you’re creating higher risks,” noted a former Meta executive. Another current employee warned that removing human evaluators may undermine the nuanced perspective necessary to foresee potential consequences.

Meta has acknowledged these concerns, stating that AI decisions are subject to internal audits. The company also confirmed that its European operations will maintain stricter oversight, as required by the EU’s Digital Services Act. Oversight for EU user data and products will remain under Meta’s European headquarters in Ireland.

This move is part of a broader AI transformation underway at Meta. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that AI agents will soon write most of the company’s code, including for its Llama models, and are already outperforming average developers in debugging and productivity. Meta is concurrently building internal AI tools to expedite research and product development.

The company’s decision follows a broader industry trend. Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently stated that AI now generates 30% of the company’s code, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman suggested that figure is already 50% in some firms.

Still, the timing of Meta’s transition has raised scrutiny. The company’s move to AI-driven reviews comes shortly after the termination of its fact-checking initiative and a loosening of its hate speech policies. Critics argue that Meta may be dismantling long-standing safeguards in favor of fewer restrictions and accelerated product cycles—potentially compromising user safety.

As Meta embraces this next phase of AI integration, the balance between speed, innovation, and accountability will remain central to public and regulatory scrutiny.

The much-anticipated gangster drama OG, starring Pawan Kalyan, is currently underway with its shoot progressing swiftly in Mumbai following the completion of the Hyderabad schedule. Directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Danayya, the film is on track for a planned release this September.

Despite his significant responsibilities as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan remains actively involved in the film’s production. To accommodate his frequent absences due to political duties, the production team has employed body doubles extensively—not only for high-intensity action sequences but also for regular scenes. The director and crew are working tirelessly to wrap up filming by August, demonstrating a strong commitment to meeting deadlines despite the challenges posed by the lead actor’s dual roles. With Pawan Kalyan’s dedication and the team’s innovative scheduling, OG is poised to be a major release in the upcoming cinematic calendar.

A Mother’s Strength Dia Mirza’s Premature Baby Fight

Share

Bollywood actress Dia Mirza recently shared a deeply personal and harrowing experience from four years ago, recounting the challenges she faced during a difficult pregnancy at the age of 39. Dia revealed that a sudden bacterial infection, likely triggered by an appendix surgery, put both her and her unborn child’s lives at serious risk.

By the sixth month of her pregnancy, Dia experienced internal bleeding and sepsis, which necessitated an emergency delivery. Her son, Avyaan, was born prematurely, weighing a mere 810 grams, and was immediately admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Within the first 36 hours, Avyaan underwent a critical surgery to repair a perforation in his intestine. The procedure required the creation of a stoma, where part of his intestine was brought outside the body to heal.

Throughout this difficult period, Dia remained on intravenous antibiotics for several weeks while fervently hoping for her son’s survival. Adding to the emotional strain was the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely limited her hospital visits to just twice a week, preventing her from holding her baby for extended periods.

Upon finally bringing Avyaan home, Dia took on the responsibility of managing his complex care herself. After gaining sufficient weight and strength, Avyaan underwent a second surgery to reverse the stoma. The young boy is now on the path to recovery, bringing immense relief and joy to the family.

Dia Mirza’s courageous sharing not only highlights the fragile nature of premature births but also underscores the resilience and determination of parents navigating such extraordinary challenges.
