NRI Miscalculates India Living Costs, Faces Reality Check

Share

For many Indians working abroad, returning home is often seen as a financially comfortable move, based on the belief that living costs in India are still far lower than in Western countries. However, financial experts caution that this assumption can lead to serious miscalculations, especially for families planning early retirement or relocation.

A recent case shared by SEBI-registered investment advisor Vivek S G highlights how outdated perceptions can create major financial gaps. He spoke about a 44-year-old professional based in Europe who planned to return to India within six months with his wife and two children, hoping to transition into consulting work. During their initial discussion, the individual estimated that ₹40,000 per month would be sufficient to sustain his family.

This estimate, however, proved to be far from reality. When asked about school fees in cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai, he assumed they would be around ₹5,000–₹10,000 per month. In reality, private schooling costs have increased sharply, with fees ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per month, while international schools can charge ₹50,000 or more. For a family with two children, education expenses alone could exceed the initially estimated monthly budget.

Rising inflation has further added to the financial burden. Medical inflation in India is estimated to be around 14%, while food inflation is close to 10%, both significantly impacting household expenses over time. Even lifestyle costs have increased, with a simple weekend dinner for two in a metro city now costing between ₹2,000 and ₹4,000.

After factoring in all essential expenses such as education, healthcare, food, and lifestyle needs, the revised monthly requirement came to around ₹1.5 lakh—nearly four times the original estimate. This gap also meant that the individual’s retirement corpus needed a substantial revision.

Financial planners note that such misjudgments are common among NRIs who rely on outdated information or past experiences. Many continue to view India through an old lens, unaware of how rapidly costs have risen in urban centers.

While India may still offer a relatively lower cost of living compared to Western countries, the difference has narrowed significantly in major cities. This makes it essential for those planning a return to reassess their finances based on current realities rather than past assumptions, ensuring a smoother and more secure transition.

Biker Director Abhilash Reddy Shares Exciting Insights Ahead of Release

Share

Director Abhilash Reddy, who helmed the upcoming film Biker, recently shared interesting insights in an exclusive interaction with manatelugu, during a conversation with Rishikeshwar Yogi.

Speaking about the film’s core theme, Abhilash explained that while professional bike racing may not be widely familiar to everyone, riding a bike is a common part of daily life, making the story relatable to a broader audience.

He also opened up about the challenges faced during production, recalling a particularly intense and risky action sequence shot in Indonesia with Sharwanand. He described the experience as both thrilling and nerve-wracking.

The director revealed that although the story is set in Coimbatore—known for its racing culture—the film’s high-octane racing sequences were filmed extensively in Indonesia to achieve a more authentic and масштабный visual appeal.

When asked about references, Abhilash said he drew inspiration from Hollywood racing films only for technical aspects, while ensuring that the emotional and dramatic elements remained original.

In a surprising revelation, he shared that Sharwanand underwent a massive physical transformation, losing 23 kg in just six months for the role, showcasing remarkable dedication and discipline.

Abhilash also credited UV Creations for backing the project. He admitted that he initially considered compromising on certain aspects to control the budget, but the strong support from the production house encouraged him to maintain high quality standards throughout.

Reflecting on his earlier project Loser, he said that experience played a key role in shaping his approach as a filmmaker.

Overall, the interview offers deep insights into the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking, especially with both Abhilash and Rishikeshwar Yogi sharing a director’s perspective.

Biker is all set to hit the screens on April 3, starring Sharwanand and Malavika Nair in the lead roles, with Dr. Rajasekhar playing a pivotal character.

Revanth Reddy Targets Food Adulteration in Hyderabad

Share

Under the leadership of Revanth Reddy, law enforcement and regulatory systems in Hyderabad have been significantly strengthened over the past few years.

While the police and vigilance departments have been actively cracking down on drug-related activities, and initiatives like HYDRAA have targeted illegal land encroachments, the government is now shifting its focus to a more pressing public concern—food adulteration and hygiene.

In recent months, several cases of food contamination and poor sanitation standards have surfaced across the city. Acting on this, special task forces have been conducting raids on eateries and commercial units supplying essential ingredients such as oils, मसాలాలు, and ginger-garlic pastes. These inspections have exposed serious lapses in food safety and hygiene practices.

Taking note of the situation, Revanth Reddy has announced plans to launch a dedicated enforcement drive, similar in scale and intensity to HYDRAA and Eagle operations. This new initiative will specifically target food adulteration, ensuring strict monitoring of restaurants, street food vendors, and supply chains.

The proposed task force is expected to carry out regular inspections, impose penalties, and take strict action against establishments that fail to meet safety standards. With food safety becoming a growing concern among the public, this move is seen as both timely and necessary.

If implemented effectively, the crackdown could lead to improved hygiene standards and restore public confidence in food establishments across Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.

Trump Threat Sparks Global Alarm Over Iran Tensions

Share

Donald Trump has once again stirred global attention with a highly controversial social media statement, raising serious concerns about escalating tensions with Iran.

In his post, Trump claimed that the United States is in talks with a “more reasonable regime” to end its military operations in Iran, suggesting that progress is being made. However, he also issued a strong warning—stating that if a deal is not reached soon and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately reopened for global trade, the U.S. could take extreme military action targeting Iran’s key infrastructure, including power plants, oil facilities, and Kharg Island.

This statement has triggered widespread concern, especially given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, which handles over 20% of global oil trade. Reports also suggest that Iran could further escalate the situation by disrupting another key trade route near Yemen, adding to fears of a broader economic impact.

Energy experts warn that any major conflict in the region could severely disrupt global oil supply chains. There are already predictions that crude oil prices could surge dramatically—potentially reaching $200 per barrel—if tensions continue to rise without resolution.

Such developments could have far-reaching consequences, not just for the Middle East but for the global economy. A full-scale conflict could destabilize energy markets, strain international trade, and push multiple countries into deeper economic uncertainty.

With tensions mounting, the world is closely watching how the situation unfolds, as any drastic move could trigger a wider geopolitical and economic crisis.

Project Hail Mary Becomes 2026’s Biggest Hollywood Hit in India

Share

The Hollywood film Project Hail Mary has emerged as a major breakout success in India, quickly turning into a global phenomenon within its extended opening weekend. In a remarkable feat, the film has already surpassed the lifetime collections of all Hollywood releases in India for 2026 so far, despite facing stiff competition from big-ticket films like Dhurandhar 2.

Headlined by Ryan Gosling, the film is benefiting from exceptional word of mouth and overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences. This strong reception has translated into impressive box office numbers across multiple regions.

A key factor behind its success has been Sony Pictures’ aggressive release strategy, which ensured a wide screen presence along with solid exhibitor support. Additionally, the film’s availability in English as well as regional language versions has significantly expanded its reach among Indian audiences.

With such strong early momentum, Project Hail Mary is expected to continue its successful theatrical run and potentially set new benchmarks for Hollywood films in India this year, even as it competes with major domestic releases like Dhurandhar 2.

RGV Questions Industry Silence on Dhurandhar 2 Success

Share

As Aditya Dhar’s “Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge” continues its dominant run at the box office, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has openly questioned the film industry’s silence over the film’s massive success.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Satya director made a strong and provocative statement, suggesting that the impact of Dhurandhar 2 is nothing short of an “atomic bomb” on the industry. He expressed surprise at how the film fraternity has largely remained quiet despite the film’s overwhelming response.

Varma speculated on the reasons behind this silence, wondering whether the industry is too stunned by the film’s scale and success, in denial about its impact, or simply unable to match its standards. He hinted that many filmmakers might be hesitant to acknowledge a film that raises the bar so significantly.

Emphasizing the magnitude of the film’s success, the Sarkar maker compared Dhurandhar 2 to a “fire-breathing dinosaur” that is impossible to ignore. According to him, turning a blind eye to such a phenomenon is not just surprising but also unwise.

He further advised filmmakers to treat Dhurandhar 2 as a learning experience—a new benchmark in filmmaking. Ignoring its impact, he warned, could leave them stuck in outdated storytelling patterns and risk being left behind in a rapidly evolving cinematic landscape.

With such strong remarks from Ram Gopal Varma, the conversation around Dhurandhar 2 has only intensified, drawing more attention to both the film’s success and the industry’s response to it.

Chiranjeevi’s Next Sparks Concern Over Kona Venkat’s Involvement

Share

Mega fans are growing increasingly concerned about the involvement of Kona Venkat in Chiranjeevi’s upcoming film, which is set to be directed by Bobby Kolli.

The concern largely stems from the disappointing performance of “Band Melam,” a film presented by Kona Venkat. Despite strong promotions and attempts to position it as a major success, the film failed to impress both critics and audiences, ultimately ending up as a box-office flop. Although Kona Venkat was not the writer of the film, his active role in its promotions and his recent track record have raised doubts among fans.

What has further intensified the discussion is Kona Venkat’s own statement during promotions that he is already working on the script for Chiranjeevi’s next film with Bobby. This revelation has made fans more cautious about the project.

While Bobby earlier delivered a commercial hit with Chiranjeevi through Waltair Veeraiah, the new project is currently facing several challenges. The film is reportedly stuck in the pre-production stage due to financial issues linked to KVN Productions.

The production house is said to be dealing with ongoing commitments, including Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan” and Yash’s “Toxic,” which are adding to the delays.

Amid these uncertainties, Chiranjeevi is believed to be taking a cautious approach, preferring to move forward only after all production-related issues are resolved. At the same time, there is also a growing perception among fans that Kona Venkat’s writing style may need to evolve to match the changing tastes of today’s audience.

With multiple factors at play, all eyes are now on how this project eventually takes shape.

Apple WWDC 2026: iOS 27 to Bring Major Siri AI Upgrade

Share

Apple has officially announced the dates for its annual developer conference, WWDC 2026, where the company is expected to preview its next major software update, iOS 27. The update is scheduled to be rolled out publicly in June, and early reports suggest a strong focus on artificial intelligence enhancements.

This year, Apple is reportedly placing significant emphasis on advancing AI capabilities, particularly by upgrading Siri. According to a Bloomberg report, iOS 27 may introduce AI extension support, allowing users to integrate and run third-party AI chatbots directly within Siri.

If implemented, this feature would reduce Apple’s dependence on external partnerships like OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration and give users the flexibility to choose from multiple AI services. Users may be able to install and manage these AI tools directly through system settings across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Apple is also expected to introduce a dedicated section in the App Store for AI-powered tools, enabling users to select services such as Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude for use within Siri. This integration could potentially create a new revenue stream, allowing subscriptions to be processed through Apple’s ecosystem.

The report also suggests that this new AI extension framework would be separate from Apple’s ongoing collaboration with Google. That partnership is believed to focus on improving Siri’s core intelligence using Gemini models, while the new extension system would expand flexibility for third-party AI providers.

Overall, Apple appears to be planning a major transformation of Siri, evolving it from a traditional voice assistant into a more open and AI-driven platform with broader capabilities across its devices.

Sarvam AI Launches “Chanakya” for Secure Enterprise AI

Share

Indian AI startup Sarvam AI is expanding its enterprise operations with a new vertical called “Chanakya,” focused on applied AI solutions for high-impact sectors. The initiative aims to deliver real-world AI systems for governments, enterprises, and critical industries where security, reliability, and sovereignty are top priorities.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the company announced that it has been quietly building full-stack AI capabilities over the past year to address complex and national-level challenges. “Applying our full-stack AI to problems of national consequence and complex enterprises. Now we’re scaling the vertical behind it – Chanakya,” the company stated.

The “Chanakya” platform is designed to operate in secure, air-gapped environments that are isolated from the internet, ensuring maximum data protection. It can process multiple data formats, including text and images, and autonomously execute AI workflows in sensitive, real-world scenarios.

Sarvam AI is targeting organisations that operate outside public cloud infrastructure, particularly those in defence, governance, and other strategic sectors. The system is also described as “dual-use,” meaning it can serve both enterprise applications and national security requirements.

As part of its broader expansion, Sarvam has been strengthening its AI ecosystem with advanced offerings. At the Indian AI Impact Summit 2026, the company unveiled its foundation models Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B, which support 22 Indian languages and have shown strong performance compared to global models.

US Visitor Visa Delays Reach 9 Months in India

Share

Indian travellers planning a visit to the United States are currently facing significant delays in securing visitor visa appointments, with wait times stretching up to nine months in some cities, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of State’s Global Visa Wait Times.

Mumbai records the longest delay, where both the average wait time and the next available B1/B2 visa interview slot stand at around nine months. In New Delhi, applicants are facing a comparatively shorter but still considerable wait of approximately seven months for the next available appointment.

The data, updated monthly, reflects interview availability across various U.S. embassies and consulates in India. However, officials have clarified that these timelines are subject to change depending on the release of new appointment slots.

City-wise variation in wait times

Other major centres also show varying timelines. Hyderabad reports an average wait of 6.5 months, with the next available appointment at around eight months. Kolkata shows a similar 6.5-month wait, while Chennai offers relatively faster access, with appointments available in about three months.

This variation suggests that applicants may be able to secure earlier interview dates by choosing alternate consulates, depending on availability.

Faster processing for student and work visas

In contrast, student visa categories (F, M, and J) are being processed much faster. New Delhi offers appointments in less than half a month, while Mumbai has a wait of about two months and Hyderabad around 2.5 months.

Work visa categories, including H, L, O, P, and Q, are also moving relatively quickly. New Delhi and Mumbai show availability in roughly one month, Hyderabad in three months, and Kolkata in about 1.5 months.

Crew and transit visas remain the fastest, with most cities offering appointments within a month or even less.

Timelines remain flexible

The U.S. Department of State has emphasized that these wait times are only indicative and based on the previous month’s data. As embassies continue to release new slots, applicants may find earlier appointments becoming available.

Officials also noted that the reported average wait times do not guarantee appointment dates within a fixed period.

The latest figures highlight continued strong demand for U.S. visitor visas across India, even as student and employment-related categories continue to move at a faster pace. Applicants are advised to regularly check official booking systems for real-time updates.
