Varun Tej Must Be Something Special!

He has done only three films to date and has already created an identity for himself: not as the nephew of Chiranjeevi or the son of Naga Babu but as the actor in Mukunda, Kanche and Loafer. While some people have praised these films for being different there is a section in Tollywood that is breathing fire on these films of Varun Tej and on the actor in particular.

A group opposed to the mega camp is believed to be making statements that none of the Varun Tej’s films made any profits for buyers. While they were initially silent about Kanche because of the positive reviews, the failure of Loafer has emboldened them to categorize Kanche as a loss-making venture as well.

Meanwhile, a hero belonging to the mega camp also is rumored to be jealous of Varun Tej and trying to encourage the propaganda. Only three films old and already they are trying to pull him down? Varun Tej surely must be something special!

Fans Make Us Who We Are: Megastar

New Delhi: For years, fans have thronged the gate of his Mumbai bungalow every Sunday morning. He has the maximum followers on Twitter for an Indian, and has a burgeoning “extended family” of those who read his blog. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan who, at 73, attracts fans galore wherever he goes, says they are an “essential” part of an actor’s career. The actor, who has spent over four decades in the film industry, often shares instances of how his fans end up getting either amused or startled if he’s travelling in the same airplane as them; or of the exhilaration that they experience upon clicking selfies with him; and more.

But Amitabh, a globally popular face from Bollywood and one who has admirers across the world, brushes it off as just a result of ‘celebrity’ status. “I think this would happen to any one that has claims to being a celebrity. There is nothing wrong in it or objectionable. Fan interest is essential for an actor. They make us who we are. Giving them attention or getting it from them is justifiable,” Amitabh told IANS in an email interview. That has been an ongoing phenomenon throughout his career.

It’s interesting how the actor has been experimenting with his driving skills — whether it’s riding a bicycle for “Piku”, a scooter for “Te3n” or even a ‘tuk-tuk’ for leisure. But he says the best drive for him has been his 45-year-long journey in showbiz. Asked to share his best driving memory, the three-time National Award winner, said: “Driving memories? 45 years in the film industry has been a wonderful drive!” And why not? Best known for his roles in films like “Anand”, “Agneepath”, “Namak Haraam”, “Don”, “Hum”, “Zanjeer”, “Black” and “Paa” to name a few, Amitabh has regaled Hindi film buffs as much with his ‘angry young man’ avatar as in romantic avatars; as much as in intensely dramaticl roles, as those with a comical streak.

From essaying a 12-year-old boy Auro in “Paa”; a friendly ghost in “Bhoothnath Returns”; a failed actor and drunkard in “Shamitabh”; and a grumpy father in “Piku” – these are a few of his recent portrayals on the silver screen that have been a window to Amitabh’s talent, which has not faded, but only enhanced with age. “At my age, this is the best that can come my way and one should be thankful and grateful that there is work available at this time of my career,” said the son of late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. The experience of facing the camera, he says, has not changed.

“Every day is an experience for me. Filmmaking has only one gospel – the sound of ‘Start sound’, ‘camera’, ‘clap’, ‘action’… And you better get it right after hearing those words,” he said. Adding more versatility to his filmography comes “Wazir”, which features Amitabh as a paralysed chess grandmaster, confined to a wheelchair. He said the wheelchair made matters “a lot easier”. “I did not have to worry where to keep my hands… Hehe.. But seriously, though it was great to be able to portray a character I had never done before,” said Amitabh, who said the preparations for the role weren’t too many. It’s a project that Amitabh readily said “yes” to, especially since it was an idea that filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra — whom he describes as an “astute producer” — had narrated to him around 15 years ago and he had liked it.

Now that the film is ready to hit theatres on Friday, Amitabh describes it as a “smart and modern film, unique in its structure and presentation”. “And, yes, this one has been made most sensitively as well. It’s intelligent and swift-paced,” added the actor, who has also sung a track titled “Atrangi yaari” along with co-star Farhan Akhtar for the Bejoy Nambiar directorial.

Strange Advice From Balu

Share

sp-balu

Ever since Chandrababu Naidu has come to power, singing legend SP Balu has been lavishing praise on the former at every possible opportunity. When Vizag was ravaged by ‘Hudhud’, Balu praised the efforts of the TDP administration and Chandrababu. The TDP used Balu’s praise as an endorsement on that occasion. And recently in Nellore, at an event, Balu once again showed his affection towards Naidu. But his comments left a lot of people bemused.

“The people have given the government a mandate for five years. So they should not criticize the government during these five years. If it is not possible for them to assist the government, they should step away and stay silent,” said SPB. The government is accountable to the people and hence, the people have every right to criticize the government along with the opposition and the media. Cumulatively, they act as watchdogs of democracy.

When the Congress was in power, was Naidu himself not at the forefront shouting himself hoarse on every issue? Besides, following bifurcation, there are a lot of issues plaguing AP. A lot of promises have been made including the special status. The TDP is doing nothing about it. So, should the people merely stay silent and take it in their stride? What is this Baluji? You may love the TDP but that doesn’t mean you display your affection through such extreme statements.

Jr NTR Has No Reason For Media Party

When Fans and common audience were trying to give their own interpretation on why is Junior NTR showering this sudden love on media friends when he invited a decent gathering of nearly 40 to 50 journalists to a party at Daspalla Hotel yesterday night, here comes the direct version of what went through NTR mind. Hmm… you are wrong. NTR clearly does not want to take mileage for his new movie ‘Nannaku Prematho’ with this party.

True to an extent that Tarak films aren’t doing to expected level at Box Office and he needs media support to break through this jinx. At the same time, Tarak stood as the only hero who distanced from media in last few years after his virtual parting of the ways with Naidu and TDP. So, he needs the unconditional support from media.

‘I became quite busy in last few months with my new born son on one side and movies on other side. That’s why I could not meet you people regularly. Please don’t think this gap differently. There is no big reason for inviting you guys to the party. Just I wanted to see all my media friends together and there’s nothing more. We will meet regularly from now on and celebrate the occasions accordingly. I need to go back to shoot. Please, don’t mind and you guys go ahead and enjoy the party,’ NTR said before taking the leave from scribes.

Sharwanand Express Raja Should Have Pongal Lead

If Box Office performance is the only gauging factor to decide the position and star status of a hero irrespective of artistic excellence and selection of scripts then hero Sharwanand needs a lot of improvement with his new flick ‘Express Raja.’ Although Sharwa suits to the best for critically acclaimed flicks like ‘Gamyam, Prasthanam, Malli Malli Idi Rani ROju’ etc, he is eyeing these days on commercial stardom began with ‘Run Raja Run.’

The stylish action entertainer with good thrills directed by Sujeeth is declared a highest grosser in Sharwanand film made under UV Creations banner. Now when Sharwanand is back on the same banner with ‘Venkatadri Express’ director Merlapaka Gandhi coming as ‘Express Raja,’ obviously the buzz will be higher.

Trade analysts are expecting a decent hike and improvisation in Sharwanand’s Box Office potentiality with this flick which is releasing luckily in Pongal holidays season. Although competition from ‘Nannaku Prematho, Dictator’ and ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ is imminent, Sharwa’s following in youth, college going audience may tilt the equations in his favor and this could be an even advantage.

Will NTR’s Strategy Work?

Young Tiger NTR has thrown a grand party for media people on Monday evening and has interacted with them after a long gap. NTR has been shying away from media of late for reasons best known to him. He didn’t bother to promote any of his recent movies even though promotions have become vital part in a film’s success.

Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan usually are not so media-friendly, but they too started coming out to promote their films. Such is the importance of publicity these days. NTR finally realized the importance of it and has met the media as he needs their full support now. A section of diehard fans of Nandamuri family are working against Junior because of his clash with his ‘babai’ Balakrishna.

Things have taken a worse turn with Nannaku Prematho taking on Dictator for this Sankranthi. Nandamuri fans are openly bashing NTR and putting up banners with slogans against him. NTR realized that he cannot win back those fans without making a compromise with Balakrishna.

That is not possible at the moment and therefore NTR is implementing other plans to get back on track. One of it was getting back in touch with the media. Let’s see if this strategy works in favor of Junior Babu or not!

What is the difference between Sunnis and Shias

Share

Muslims_745397f_2684013f

Saudi Arabia’s execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr could escalate tensions in the Muslim world even further. Here is a primer on the basic differences between Sunni and Shia Islam.

What caused the split?

A schism emerged after the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632. He died without appointing a successor to lead the Muslim community, and disputes arose over who should shepherd the new and rapidly growing faith. Some believed that a new leader should be chosen by consensus; others thought that only the prophet’s descendants should become caliph. The title passed to a trusted aide, Abu Bakr, though some thought it should have gone to Ali, the Prophet’s cousin and son-in-law. Ali eventually did become caliph after Abu Bakr’s two successors were assassinated.

After Ali also was assassinated, with a poison-laced sword at the mosque in Kufa, in what is now Iraq, his sons Hasan and then Hussein claimed the title. But Hussein and many of his relatives were massacred in Karbala, Iraq, in 680. His martyrdom became a central tenet to those who believed that Ali should have succeeded the Prophet. (It is mourned every year during the month of Muharram). The followers became known as Shias, a contraction of the phrase Shiat Ali, or followers of Ali. The Sunnis, however, regard the first three caliphs before Ali as rightly guided and themselves as the true adherents to the Sunnah, or the Prophet’s tradition. Sunni rulers embarked on sweeping conquests that extended the caliphate into North Africa and Europe. The last caliphate ended with the fall of the Ottoman Empire after World War-I.

How do their beliefs differ?

The Sunni and Shia sects encompass a wide spectrum of doctrine, opinion and schools of thought. The branches are in agreement on many aspects of Islam, but there are considerable disagreements within each. Both branches include worshippers who run the gamut from secular to fundamentalist. Shias consider Ali and the leaders who came after him as Imams. Most believe in a line of 12 Imams, the last of whom, a boy, is believed to have vanished in the ninth century in Iraq after his father was murdered. Shias known as Twelvers anticipate his return as the Mahdi, or Messiah. Sunnis emphasise God’s power in the material world, sometimes including the public and political realm, while Shias value martyrdom and sacrifice.

Which sect is larger, and where is each concentrated?

More than 85 per cent of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims are Sunni. They live across the Arab world, as well as in countries such as Turkey, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia. Iran, Iraq and Bahrain are largely Shia. The Saudi royal family, which practices an austere and conservative strand of Sunni Islam known as Wahhabism, controls Islam’s holiest shrines, Mecca and Medina. Karbala, Kufa and Najaf in Iraq are revered shrines for the Shias.

Differential data pricing

Share

Computer_2679469f

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday extended the last date for submission of comments on its paper on differential data pricing, This is the second time the regulatory body has sought views and comments on for framing policies on internet services.

Earlier this year, TRAI released a draft consultation paper seeking views from the industry and the general public on the need for regulations for over-the-top (OTT) players such as Whatsapp, Skype, Viber etc, security concerns and net neutrality.

The objective of this consultation paper, the regulator said, was to analyse the implications of the growth of OTTs and consider whether or not changes were required in the current regulatory framework. This time, the consultation paper is about differential data pricing or zero rated applications and websites — especially as social media giant Facebook is agressively pushing its Free Basics scheme.

Internet activists, on the other hand, have once again put together responses to TRAI’s questions, making it easy for internet users to submit their suggestions on differential data pricing.

“Coming to India feels like coming home”!

Share

adnan

Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir and Salman are concerned about the rising intolerance in India and poor Aamir Khan’s wife was so worried that she asked her husband whether they ought to be leaving the country. And the sad part is that when someone criticizes the Khans even after they made these depressing statements, he or she is still labeled intolerant or communal.

And at the other end of the spectrum, we have Pakistan singer Adnan Sami who has successfully acquired Indian citizenship. When a reporter quizzed Adnan Sami on whether he felt India was intolerant, he replied, “If India was intolerant, then why would I apply for citizenship? I feel absolutely safe in India and that’s why I chose to become a citizen of this wonderful country.”

He further added, “I have lived all across the globe but coming to India feels like coming home.” So, there it is in a nutshell! A Pakistani feels absolutely comfortable with applying for Indian citizenship but ordinary folks born and bred here and made into superstars by the people of India, feel the atmosphere not conducive to the safety of minorities.

Is it the irony that is always inherent in India or is it a case of just three celebrities having a problem with the wiring in their heads?
