Pakistan has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s “constructive role” in facilitating a ceasefire understanding between Islamabad and New Delhi, praising his efforts toward resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute.
In a statement from Pakistan’s foreign office, Islamabad expressed appreciation for Trump’s willingness to support initiatives aimed at resolving the Kashmir issue, which it referred to as a “longstanding dispute with serious implications for peace and security in South Asia and beyond.”
Pakistan reiterated its position, stating that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute should be in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The foreign office also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with the United States and the international community to promote peace, security, and economic prosperity in the region. “We look forward to strengthening our multifaceted partnership with the United States, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and economic cooperation,” the statement added.
This statement from Islamabad follows Trump’s post on Truth Social, in which he congratulated both Pakistan and India for agreeing to a ceasefire, facilitated by the United States.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwavering leadership of India and Pakistan for recognizing that it was time to stop the current aggression, which could have led to widespread death and destruction. Millions of innocent lives could have been lost. Your legacies are greatly enhanced by your courageous actions,” Trump wrote.
Trump also praised the US’s role in helping both nations reach this historic ceasefire and announced plans to significantly increase trade with both countries. “I will work with you both to see if, after a thousand years, a solution can be reached concerning Kashmir,” Trump added.
While Pakistan welcomed the US President’s offer to mediate, India has firmly opposed third-party involvement in the Kashmir issue, emphasizing that Kashmir is an integral part of India.
