We have heard and seen passengers traveling standing in buses and trains but for the first time, a flight has carried passengers standing on the aisle. This dubious record is created by a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight.

As per international media reports, a Pakistani flight from Karachi to Medina, Saudi Arabia allowed 7 extra passengers who were all forced to stand on the aisle during the entire course of journey. Although this incident occurred last month, it came to light after Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper reported it.

The paper quoted that the staff had issued additional handwritten boarding passes to those seven seatless travelers. After the incident was exposed, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority has received severe criticism for not taking action against the airline for putting the lives of passengers at risk.

Aviation experts said that if a case of emergency evacuation had arose, the extra passengers would not have had access to oxygen, which would have endangered their lives.

Responding to the accusations, PIA spokesman said that the airline is investigating the issue and that appropriate action would be taken if the staffers were found guilty.
