Param Sundari, the highly anticipated rom-com featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, arrived with promises of glamour, romance, and chart-topping music. However, its opening day at the box office fell short of expectations.
Despite being a solo release and generating substantial pre-release buzz, early reports indicate day-one collections around ₹7.25 crore—well below industry projections. Theatre occupancy on Friday was notably low, averaging just 12.92%: mornings at 8.19%, afternoons 11.45%, evenings 12.27%, and night shows performing slightly better at 19.77%. Clearly, the numbers are far from blockbuster territory.
Directed as a light-hearted intercultural romance between a Delhi boy and a Kerala girl, the film relies on the fresh pairing of Sidharth and Janhvi, supported by Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya. While the music, particularly the track Pardesiya, has caught early attention, hit songs alone are not enough to draw crowds.
The film’s future now hinges on word-of-mouth. Without a significant weekend boost, Param Sundari risks joining the list of Bollywood films that dazzled in promotion but struggled at the box office.
