Opposition parties across India have been voicing concerns over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) following their 2024 electoral setbacks, and Pulivendula MLA YS Jagan is no exception, repeatedly blaming EVMs for his defeat.
Addressing the issue during the Independence Day parade in Kakinada, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan took a direct swipe at Jagan’s claims.
“We’ve been seeing this trend nationwide — when a party wins, everything is fine, but when they lose, they immediately blame the Election Commission and the EVMs,” Kalyan remarked. He pointed out that after losing the 2019 elections, his party did not accuse the system or complain about ‘vote chori.’ “We respected the public mandate in 2019, even in defeat. But now, after our 2024 victory, they are attributing their loss to external factors. This is not healthy for democracy,” he asserted.
With his comments, Kalyan appeared to target both Jagan and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who have been pushing the anti-EVM narrative for some time.
