In a significant development, the office of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has issued a stern press note directed at Tollywood film associations. The message conveys the government’s clear displeasure with the current functioning and lack of responsiveness from the industry’s leadership.
The crux of the issue lies in the film associations’ failure to meet with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu after the new government took charge. This perceived negligence has irked Pawan Kalyan, who believes the industry is not acknowledging the government’s efforts or maintaining necessary dialogue.
The matter escalated when the Exhibitors Association decided to shut down theatres across Andhra Pradesh starting June 1. The government reportedly interpreted this move as a deliberate attempt to disrupt the release of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film. This prompted the state’s Cinematography Minister to order a formal investigation, alleging that “Aa Naluguru” (a term referring to a group of influential people in the industry) may be behind the decision.
Amid this turmoil, noted producer Naga Vamsi—who has previously collaborated with Pawan Kalyan—voiced his opinion on social media. He posted, “Unnecessary issues created at times when focus was needed elsewhere have led to much bigger problems, ones that could have been easily avoided if common sense had taken the driver’s seat.”
Naga Vamsi emphasized that the original dispute between distributors and exhibitors could have been resolved amicably, but distractions and poor decision-making have now escalated it into a full-blown controversy involving the state government.
With the situation now at a critical point, the industry is waiting to see if other key voices will step forward and whether the film associations will finally seek an audience with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to ease tensions.
